Report: FIFA considering merging U-17 and U-20 World Cups

Josh Sargent may be the last American to star at both the U-17 and U-20 World Cups, as reports indicate that FIFA is considering merging the two events.

According to the Associated Press, FIFA is looking to streamline its youth competitions by combining the U-17 and U-20 World Cups into one 48 team tournament with an age cutoff at either 18 or 19 years old.

Sheffield manager Chris Wilder may have shed some light on why U.S. U-20 international Cameron Carter-Vickers was recalled by Tottenham.

When talking about goalkeeper Jamal Blackmon, who is on loan from Chelsea at the club, he brought up Carter-Vickers and his attitude.

"It might have come as a shock to [Blackmon] but not once, like Cam, has he sulked and come to me," Wilder told the Sheffield Star.

After a year filled with success at various levels of the U.S. Youth setup, 17-year-old forward Josh Sargent is taking his talents to Germany, like many young Americans before him. The move won't be official until he turns 18 but, in the meantime, Sargent is feeling at home with his new club.

Most recently, Sargent has been with Wolfsburg's U-23 team for training camp as he prepared to officially join the team when he turns 18 in February.

Real Salt Lake keeps adding to its long list of Homegrown players.

On Friday RSL announced the club's signing of Aaron Herrera, 20, who becomes the Claret and Cobalt's 14th Homegrown Player after three years with the University of New Mexico.

The right back becomes the seventh active player on RSL's roster produced by the club's academy pipeline, joining Danilo Acosta, Justin Glad, Sebastian Saucedo, Brooks Lennon, Jose Hernandez and Jordan Allen.
