Alan Kardec, Douglas Costa and Giuliano are the three musketeers ya'll should
be looking out for in the selecao. Granted, they didn't bring home the U-20 World Cup
trophy, but thankfully, they have a pretty awesome sense of humour to make up for it... although
Giuliano needs to stop showing off his body.

This fairy tale story had to come to and end at some point and it did on Sunday night when
Nigeria's golden eaglets were humbled 1-0 by Switzerland in Abuja.
Nigeria who were looking to emulate their west African counterparts Ghana who won the U-20 World
Cup in Egypt in October however had to taste the bitter pill of defeat in their own home
stadium.

The Italy U-21's continued their very disappointing qualifying campaign with another loss, this
time away to Hungary. The Azzurrini needed a win to get back on track, but now qualification is
getting more and more difficult. The Hungarians won 2-0, with goals coming from Nemeth and Koman
(both players played on the Hungarian side that knocked the Italy U-20's out of the U-20 World Cup
last month).

About a month ago i wrote about Ghana's potential mouth-watering duel with Brazil in the FIFA
U-20 World Cup final in Cairo, Egypt. That night the Black Satelites prevailed against a determined
Brazil that had amongst its players the amazing Alan Kardec.
On Sunday however, the spotlight will once again shine on another African nation.

Being a rookie in MLS is quite different than young players in any other sport around the world.
First off, if you're part of the select few deemed not talented enough, your salary won't be near
six figures. That being said, with smaller rosters and bargains a necessity in MLS, getting a shot
your first professional season isn't out of the question.

Does God care about soccer? There are certainly a good number of players, fans, and teams who
think it likely. Take Diego Maradona bringing "his Argentina squad to mass to pray for a World
Cup miracle." Or take Fred earning a yellow card for celebrating a DC United goal with the
message "Jesus Loves You.

' Me and my friends want to make history, we want to change the way people see Africa'. These

saying the world cup is coming to Africa. However, i am still going to say it. The world cup is
coming home!

After their irmãos lost to Ghana in the painful U-20 World Cup final last week, Lucho Nizzo's
kids are raring to go and win the U-17 World Cup in Nigeria, which kicks off tomorrow! We could
probably call them fetos (fetuses) for now, but Coutinho
doesn't look like one, so we'd best find another name.

I love a World Cup (any World Cup) for the rare opportunity of putting whole imagined nations on
public display. Though the main event in South Africa is still eight months away, one junior
version (U-20) just finished in Egypt and another (U-17) is just about to begin in Nigeria.

My Friday prediction for the Fifa U-20 World Cup came true. Although the match was not as
exciting as i would have wanted it to be, nonetheless it marked an onset of successes that awaits
Africa.

Brazil defeated Costa Rica 1-0 in the semis of the U-20 World Cup today. From reading the match
reports, it sounded like a very choppy and cagey match, decided by a well-taken goal midway through
the second half. It was a much better showing by Costa Rica than their group phase opener, but they
were still far away from scoring a goal.

A resourceful, gritty victory for the US, which should shut up the critics including myself for

US basically controlled from minute twenty five onward.

Costa Rica's U-20 team made history and advanced to the semifinals of the U-20 World Cup after
defeating the UAE 2-1 after extra time. The winning goal was scored by Marco Ureña in the final
minute of the second extra time period, after a backpass gone horribly wrong in the UAE defense.
This is the farthest any Costa Rican national team has advanced to the semifinals of an
international competition, and the third time a CONCACAF team has progressed to the semifinals of a
U-20 World Cup (Mexico in 1977 and USA in 1989).
