We know many of you have been closely monitoring the stars from the recent FIFA U-17
World Cup and one of them is Lucas Piazon, Chelsea's new
talented winger and Kaka's 17-year-old younger "twin" from another dad (and possibly One
Direction's sixth band member).
Mexico lost its third consecutive match of the Copa América today, and was for the first time ever
eliminated in the first round of this tournament. However, there is much reason to be optimistic
about the future if you are a fan of the North American nation. Just before the Copa América
Mexico was awesome in winning the North American Gold Cup, with an excellent side with great
attacking power.
Who's ready for France tomorrow? Let's make sure all those tubes at work and whatnot are tuned in
to make some new soccer fans...Since we're talking Women's World Cup and there's no Who likes

The last time Mexico won the U17 World Cup was in 2005. A mere 6 years ago. Yesterday, they did
it on their home turf, Estadio Azteca, in front of 105,000 supporting El Tri. Yes, that means
Mexico have won two out of the last four U17 World Cups.
The tournament's two most impressive teams, Brazil and Germany,
who had netted a total of 30 goals between them, will be playing for third
place after being knocked out of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the semi-finals.
Brazil were not at the races in Guadalajara, falling 3-0 to Uruguay, while the German juggernaut
came off the road at last in Torreon, losing 3-2 to hosts Mexico having led 2-1 on the
hour.

Old masters Brazil and Germany qualified for the last four of the Under-17
World Cup but survived late scares from Japan and England in their quarter finals.
We've made more than our share of jokes about the long, dull, dragging days of summer without
Liverpool football to distract us from cruel reality, but when you get right down to it there are
few sports that span the calendar quite like football. And so, three long, hard days (or
thereabouts) after Barcelona beat Manchester United in the Champions League final to close out
major European competition, the first wave of players begin to trickle into pre-season training
camps in England to kick off July.
Marta
, the Leo Messi of the women's game,
lit up the World Cup with a
stunning brace as Brazil swatted Norway aside 3-0.
After an unconvincing 1-0 opening win against Australia, the Brazilians, losing finalists in the
last World Cup and Olympics, were on fire in Wolfsburg
today.
Where's Carlos?
The Brotherly Game links to Mexican website Elgolfo.info reporting Carlos Ruiz is in Mexico City
training with second division side Veracruz. Their translation reads, "the back and forth search
for a third foreign signing continues in Mexico City, where the Guatemalan Carlos Ruiz trains
with an eye to soon joining the Red Sharks.

After a day spent trying to calm nerves frayed by the transfer season to varying degrees of
success, it's back to the offseason grind of news drip-fed into maws eager for something tangible
to hold onto as summer drags along. This, then, is all the Liverpool news that's fit to drip
today...
* After making his debut with Liverpool in 1976, Sammy Lee would go on to become a key
player in midfield for the next decade, playing an important role in European Cup and league
triumphs before eventually being pushed out by injuries and Jan Mølby in 1986.

[[ This is a content summary.
-Ben McCormick After a promising start, the US U-17 National Team is in a tough spot. The Americans
opened the 2011 U-17 World Cup with a satisfying 3-0 win against the Czech Republic before it was
wiped out by an embarrassing 2-1 loss to Uzbekistan. On June 25, the Americans squared off against
New Zealand, needing a win to clinch the group earning themselves a date with Australia, a
manageable task in pursuit of returning to the quarterfinals for the first time since.
Otherwise known as the silly season to me. Yep, I do a lot of waiting, which naturally translates
to you all. While I'm busy staring at the phone, let's drop a few goodies to hold you over. If I
don't mention something you heard, assume I'm on it already. And waiting...Shall we begin again in
fair Roma?
Ivory Coasting to the Golden Boot The U17 World Cup is a great tournament for the football
obsessive. Previous Player of the Tournament awards have been awarded to Cesc Fabregas and
Anderson, and so the late night viewing provides an opportunity to scout out the next big thing.

FIFA rules say that boys u17 can only play at one World Cup.
Teeboy Kamara is 15 and could go to the next World Cup. He's that young. And at this World Cup he's
been played for 15 minutes so far and then got injured.
He looked talented but raw raw raw and surely his development would be better if he'd got to play
three games when he was more developed in two years time.
Well, good luck making any sense of Group D. The US beat the Czech Republic 3-0, New Zealand
beat Uzbekistan 4-1, then Uzbekistan beat the US 2-1, and the Czech Republic beat New Zealand 1-0.
Huh? What that means is all teams in Group D are on 3 points, and the US is tied for first with New
Zealand, with 4 goals scored and 2 goals allowed each.
We have my US Player Ratings and the day's two clips, plus whatever Will brings forth from Houston
after the doubleheader ends. And now... off to pillow land for me. Have a good one, folks.- Greg

With the U-17 MNT already having dropped a 2-1 decision to Uzbekistan in their second World Cup
group match today, the senior side is now less than an hour away from their Gold Cup final four
battle with Panama.Bob Bradley has started the same eleven that worked the lion's share against
Jamaica, with Landon Donovan again among the subs:Howard; Cherundolo, Goodson, Bocanegra, Lichaj,
Bradley,
Nice way to end the week!
It's Wednesday, do you know when the international competition you're vaguely interested in
because of club connections kicks off...?
* Earlier in the week I said that England's u17s, with Raheem Sterling starring, kicked
off their second group match against Canada on Thursday at midnight in England.
If Australia wants to win a World Cup then the style of play and individual performances at the U17
and U20 World Cups are always a good guide to how well or otherwise a national team might perform
in coming years and certainly to their style.
Australia has shouted long and loud about how we are going to change, indeed are changing our style
of play, but after todays performance the Kaz Patafta inspired U17 team of 2005 under Ange
Postecoglou was no worse than this performance.
The U-17s got off to a flying start on Sunday, routing the Czech Republic 3-0 in their World Cup
opener. Goals came from Alejandro Guido, Esteban Rodriguez, and
Alfred Koroma, respectively. (Captain Marc Pelosi came close,
seeing a great shot from distance go off the crossbar.
We are going to cover a lot of ground in a short time, so buckle up...Let's start with the U-17
fellas, who only opened World Cup play in Mexico last night by smashing the Czech Republic. I'll
just go ahead and consider this a measure of 2006 retaliation.Let's now check the chatter on last
night's Gold Cup quarterfinal win over a considerably less-than-irie Jamaica.
Raheem Sterling started his day by drawing a free-kick seconds in as he raced down the left
flank. He followed that up by cracking a shot off the post early in the first half before narrowly
missing again minutes later. Soon afterwards he set up Everton product Hallam Hope with a superbly
chipped cross that the striker directed off the post.
-Ben McCormick The US U-17 national team plays its first match of the 2011 U-17 World Cup tomorrow
against the Czech Republic. The US has qualified for every edition of the tournament since it began
in 1985. Despite their sterling qualification record, the Americans have only reached the
semi-finals once in 1999, with a squad featuring players like Landon Donovan and DaMarcus Beasley.
It is being reported this morning that Arsene Wenger is considering a bid for the young Bayer
Leverkusen striker Samed Yesil. The 17 year-old phenomonem has been prolific in the Germany U17
side, despite not yet making his full debut in the Bundesliga. Yesil scored six goals in eight
matches for the Germans to qualify [.
You're looking at the gorgeous Miss Universe 2010, Mexico's Ximena Navarrete,
proudly holding up her host country's paper slip in last night's U-17 FIFA World Cup Draw which
kicks off on June 18. The host country has been drawn with The Netherlands, Korea DPR and Congo and
will play the opening match in three weeks!
The U.S. Under-17 NT has qualified for their World Cup with a 3-2 overtime win against El Salvador.
