Soccer By Ives 13 November @ 10:17 AM EST

By NESTOR F. SEBASTIAN

It's been all business in the Uruguayan and Costa Rican camps this week, ahead of their first-leg playoff match at San Jose's Saprissa stadium, with no bulletin-board material or off-key quotes to rile each other up.

Instead, it's generally been a pleasant environment for players, media corps and managers, both of whom have praised each other's squad's games and achievements but have also divulged very little information on their respective teams' workouts.

Benitez has sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old midfielder this season and is desperate to strengthen his squad, despite him being under pressure to save his job.
Under-fire Benitez has suggested agreeing a deal for Elia - who joined Hamburg from FC Twente for £7m in August - and then allowing him to stay in Germany until next summer as he is so keen to get him. Click to continue reading...

WCR Top 25 Clubs in the World - Chelsea Stays Top Edition

World Club Rankings 01 November @ 10:46 PM EST

For the record, the photo accompanying this article is from Thursday's Boca Juniors match with Chacarita Juniors at the Bombonera. It had no effect on the rankings, but I wanted to post a photo of my own to the entry.

For the first time in over a month, a club remained at the top spot of the rankings for consecutive weeks as Chelsea solidified its position at the top with a pair of 4-0 victories over Bolton Wanderers this week.

Carinho e Insulto

Sparta Rotterdam solve corner flag dilema

AT THE FAR POST 03 August @ 06:46 PM EST
What do you do when a defender has backed you all the way up to the corner flag, and you have no where to go?
In this game between Sparta Rotterdam and FC Twente at the weekend, in the first round of Eredivisie matches, rather than the Sparta forward just kicking it against the defender and out for a throw or corner, he gets his team mate to remove the offending corner flag so that he can cross the ball in.
