the way in Turkish football.

According to reports in the Turkish press, Rafa Benitez rejected the recent bid from Birmingham for
Ryan Babel as they are in negotiations with Turkish giants Galatasaray for a swap deal plus cash
for their captain and star man Arda Turan.
The player was widely expected to leave Galatasaray last summer with the club finishing a highly
disappointing 5th in the Turkish league, 10 points behind champions Besiktas.

Digiturk, the satellite service hosting LigTV, has renewed their contract to broadcast the
Turkcell Super League for the next four seasons, from the 2010 to 2014. Digiturk will play $321

A match fixing scandal reported a few days ago in Turkish newspapers rocked Turkish soccer and
European soccer in general. There has been some action taken in order to alleviate the problem.
Kayserispor, currently in fourth place in the Turkcell Super League, has suspended midfielder
Bilal Aziz Özer from the team due to allegations that he and two other players, whom have not been
named, attempted to manipulate a match this season against Eskişehirspor.

On January 5th, national daily newspaper Milliyet broke the story that 19 soccer matches in
Turkey have allegedly been fixed. English language daily Today's Zaman also reported this story the
following day. The 3,500 page report, prepared by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bochum,
Germany, was submitted to the Turkish Football Federation.

The Turkish national team has not had a head coach since the last of the World Cup qualifiers
was ended in October. With Fatih Terim's resignation, there have been plenty of rumors going around
the internet as to who is the next guy on the hot seat. Perhaps, it would be best for the Turkish
Football Federation to get a foreigner this time around.

It's December 1st! So I hope you're all enjoying that horrible chalky chocolate sheep from your
Advent calendars this morning.
But way more importantly, it's International Watch Another League month! That's right kids, it's
back. For the entire month of December, I will shun the Premier League in favour of another league,
which is especially hard seeing as I'll be in England all next week singing like a girl for schools
that teach people to do things like that.

It's depressing to wake up at half past three in the morning hoping to catch a Manchester United
victory and the first two names you see on the teamsheet are Ben Foster and Gary Neville. It's even
more disheartening trying to get back to sleep two hours later having seen them lose their first
Champions League group match at home in eight years to a team who lost 8-0 to Liverpool on their
last visit to England.

I am in no way any sort of expert of Turkish Football (the most I know is that they make Euros
fun as shit to watch), coupled with the fact that United have already assured qualification to the
knock-out round, makes Wednesday's match somewhat of a mystery. Fergie will undoubtedly give our
youth a good go, and also give some playing time to our returning injured players.

After the disappointment of the Turkish national team not qualifying for the World Cup in 2010,
seeing the Turkcell Super League start back up is a welcome sight for Turkish football fans.
Saturday action in the Turkcell Super League would feature just two matches. The struggling
Beşiktaş took on lowly Kasımpaşa, while Bursaspor took on Denizlispor.

Turkish national team had a disastrous score against Bosnia on an away game and lost its chances (I
think) to qualify for World Cup 2010.
The team started well, but couldn't sustain its calmness during the game. As a result, they ended
up losing their concentration and tactical discipline.

goalkeeper Petkovic made crucial mistakes and the team failed to produce goal chances.

The rumor has it that Galatasaray's, Turkish national team's, defender will complete a transfer

best performance for his club.

If Fenerbahce manages to sign Luca Toni, as it has been reported, it will probably be the most
sensational transfer of the season (depending on Galatasaray's signings). I hear that Fenerbahce is

player at that age.

Justin Paul fills us in on the top flight Turkish football season.
The Turkish
Süper Lig saw one of its most competitive seasons ever recently finished. Most
notably, two provincial Anatolian sides, Sivasspor and Trabzonspor, were competitive up until the
final week. It was however
Beşiktaş, historically Turkey's 3rd club from the Istanbul big
three, that took the crown.

Trabzonspor has failed to appoint Sven Goran Eriksson as the manager of the club. Their attempt to
sign him was is an exciting and surprising decision to me, as Trabsonspor, traditionally, doesn't
work with such high profile managers. Trabzon, located in the northern part of the country (by the
Black Sea) is a relatively small city and known for their passionate and impatient supporters.
