Ireland was robbed. Pure and simple. My 8-year-old daughters watched the Henry hand ball with
gaping eyes. One proffered: "Just like I do in basketball!" Her sister then deadpanned: "And he was
offside on the pass." Children have an amazing way of stating the truth, don't they?
In his Hall of Shame acceptance speech, Thierry Henry said: "I will be honest, it was a hand
ball.

On Tuesday, the Fire distributed a letter that owner Andrew Hauptman wrote to fans of the club. The
letter, which ran a relatively short 293 words, was sort of Hauptman's wrap on the season. It
details how he felt after the Real Salt Lake game and reminds fans that the club is already working
hard to bring a championship back to Chicago next season.

And so George Burley's reign ended as we knew - and in his heart of hearts he must have known - it
would. The sheer inevitability of his sacking was blatantly obvious at around 3.30 Saturday

There seems to be a lot of confusion over how much Liverpool paid/will eventually pay Roma for the
services of Alberto Aquilani. Figures such as £20m, £17m and £5m (!) have been bandied about,
but the truth is the total outlay could (potentially) turn out to be much more.
On the 8th August 2009, Roma released official details of Aquilani's transfer fee.

Rio Ferdinand hasn't had the best start to the season. He has
either been injured or he hasn't been in his best form.
Other rumours have been that one of Ferdinand's legs is shorter than the other, which is why he has

I don't think I've ever revealed my Major League Soccer preferences here on The Offside. Truth is,
I don't have any allegiance to any particular team. So for the most part I watch as an interested

This week's Mungo is brought to you by Ted "The Neck" Carter (who, if you were

ago, in case you were wondering he's okay now, but he's not allowed to go on rollercoasters any
more), and is available in a higher resolution here.

Guido Erhard tried to write a book. The working title, he said, was: "Truth Be Told - A Life on the
Brink". He said the book would "give other people hope and courage". He didn't say it was also a
way of coming to grips with his own demons, but he didn't have to.
"Truth Be Told" was never published, because on a cold, dark and snowy Thursday in February 2002,
Erhard hurled himself in front of an incoming high-speed train at Offenbach main station.

I'll keep this very brief.
I don't care what they've achieved recently or in the past. I don't care how much better they are
than us. I don't care how big their stadium is or how illustrious their manager is. I don't care
what players they've got or whether their better than ours or not.
The truth is they're a bunch of cheating, arrogant, whining Frenchmen and no matter the score today
or any other day, we will always,
always be the pride of North London.

The Sun reported that Harry's interested in signing Club Brugge defender Vadis Odjidja. The
red-top's article wasn't too enlightening either. Apparently, we're lining up a £5 million bid for

The Sun got it wrong in saying that he's a defender. Odjidja is a defensive midfielder. Whenever
I've seen him play, he's deployed just in front of the back four and he's fairly adequate at
getting stuck into the oppositions face and break up play.

Promoted Championship teams entering the Premier League transition in different ways. Some
settle straight away and show why they belong in the league. Others take longer and end up
struggling to survive, battling in the relegation flight. Then there are the special cases: teams
that surprise everyone and do extremely well with relegation not even a factor to consider during
their first season; or conversely they are completely out of their league and winning is not a
realistic goal.
