The title of ‘most repugnant man in world football' isn't hotly contested. Anyone remotely
aware of FIFA Vice-President Jack Warner knows that he'd have got to keep any trophy years ago, and
that he'd keep it anyway, even if he was supposed to give it back. To sum up his football
administration career, he's a ticket tout and swindler an arrogant, ignorant, thuggish, loutish,
borderline racist, dictatorial, political failure.

Costa Rica's new coach Rene Simoes has had a mixed bag of results. The Ticos beat his old team,
Trinidad and Tobago handily, 4-0. The USA were able to claw back a draw against them with Jonathan
Bornstein's equalizer (which made him a hero in Honduras) at RFK stadium.
However, the Ticos suffered a setback at home against Uruguay in the playoffs to decide the
World Cup spot between the 4th placed CONCACAF and 5th placed CONMEBOL teams.

So very late last night in China, well 10.30pm Australian time, Australia kicked off its campaign
to qualify for the under-17 FIFA Women's World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago. And they kicked it off
in some sort of style with an impressive 4-0 win over China.
Newcastle Jets striker Tara Andrews claimed all four goals in the win, scoring in the 18th, 58th,
63rd and then 87th minute.

As you know by know, with the US draw against Costa Rica and the Honduran win against Trinidad
and Tobago, it put the Ticos and the Catrachos in a tie for 3rd place in CONCACAF. The tie breaker
was goal differential and Honduras, who where clearly one of the best teams in the region, rightly
earned a ticket to the World Cup in South Africa next summer.

is a personal note from Bruce that he posted on his site yesterday and it concerns the issue of
this very important game only being shown on closed circuit TV.

The U-20 World Cup in Egypt officially kicked off on Thursday with the hosts convincinglyÂ
defeating Trinidad and Tobago.
A first half 1-1 draw turned into a route as Egypt midfielder Hassan Hussam Arafat Abdalla's
brace led the way to a 4-1 victory over the Soca Warriors in front of the 80,000-plus in

The United States are on the verge of qualifying for their ninth World Cup. Victory in Honduras on
October 10th will secure their place in next year's finals, as they will if Costa Rica lose to
bottom-placed Trinidad and Tobago. Draws for both US and Costa Rica will also enable Bob Bradley's
men to start looking ahead to South Africa.

19:45 Cliftonville v Linfield, IFA Premiership, Sky Sports 1
We start this week with another all-too-rare dipping of the toes into the world of Northern Irish
football. You have to go back almost exactly three years for the last time Cliftonville beat
Linfield in a league fixture and on current form fourth-placed Linfield should beat their opponents
three places below them again.

I am glad to say it is Friday. Somehow this week has flown by me here but thankfully we have a
weekend full of soccer ahead of us here. Two games tonight, with one just about underway in New
York, and plenty more tomorrow and Sunday. Nearly every game has playoff implications surrounding
them.

This game took place September 9th, 2009 but if you want to re live it check out the highlights
above. The consensus by most people afterwards was the U.S. team didn't perform that great but we
got the 3pts. From a player standpoint 3 points is 3 points and it is one step closer to their
goal of qualifying for the World Cup.

For all of the praise that Bob Bradley has gotten and deserved for his win in Switzerland
(breaking a 5 game European losing streak), 2007 Gold Cup champions, wins against Egypt and Spain,
and 2009 Confederation Cup runners-up, he has gotten condemned for unimaginative performances
against El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Trinidad and Tobago in World Cup Qualifying.

It would not be the strong start the U.S. was hoping to have in their away match against
Trinidad and Tobago, but the U.S. squad would persevere and come home victorious 1-0. T & T had
many chances in the first half that went against the reeling squad.Â
Keeper Tim Howard proved once again to be one of the most valuable players  in this match
diving and tipping away a rocket free kick that was heading for the corner of the net as well as
several other key game saving saves between the post.

It's always encouraging when you field a bad team and win on the road. It took some luck —
Cornell Glenn hitting the crossbar, Ricardo Clark turning into Steven Gerrard for a split second
— but the United States beating Trinidad and Tobago 1-0, is a result the Americans probably had
to get.
But let me reiterate, this team Bob Bradley selected was bad.

Watching World Cup qualifiers can be weird sometimes. Performance doesn't matter half as much as
results.
Play poorly? Who cares if you get the three points, right?
That's what happened at the Port of Spain on Wednesday. The USMNT didn't look good at all, but one
great strike by Ricardo Clark was all that was needed a 1-0 road win at Trinidad and Tobago.

On a day when England qualified and the U.S. won 0-1 over Trinidad & Tobago perhaps the most
telling World Cup qualifying result was El Salvador's win over Costa Rica.

guaranteeing them qualification. The U.

It's hard to feel bad about winning three points on the road in CONCACAF, since that seems to be
a rarity nowadays.  Yet, it's hard to feel totally good about this result either. Â
It is another perfect example of the half-full, half-empty conundrum. Â
I said after the El Salvador game that this match would tell us a lot about the team .
