Trinidad and Tobago has named their training squad in preparations for the Olympic qualifying coming up in March. Sporting KC defender, Daneil Cyrus has been named to the TnT squad that is currently training in Port of Spain in Trinidad. The team is preparing to be in Group B of Olympic qualifying with Honduras, Panama, and Mexico in Los Angeles which begins on March 22nd.

The field is set for the 2012 CONCACAF Under-17 Women's Championship being held in Guatemala in early May after Karla Riley scored her second goal in four days and led Panama to a 2-1 victory over Costa Rica last Saturday to give her country the final berth in the eight-team tournament.
Riley, who scored in each of Panama's four qualifying victories, tallied the winner in the 80th minute to complete a 3-1 aggregate triumph.

CONCACAF announced that it will hold its draw for the Olympic qualifying tournament on Tuesday at the organization's headquarters in New York.

The eight teams in the draw (United States, Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago) will be split into two groups of four, with one group playing its games at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

The Philadelphia Union picked up midfielder Nizar Khalfan in the MLS Waiver Draft after Vancouver Whitecaps FC waived him earlier today.

The Union have waived goalkeeper Thorne Holder and defender Juan Diego Gonzalez.

A native of Tanzania, Khalfan played in 22 Major League Soccer regular season matches with Vancouver, scoring one goal and four assists.

The Philadelphia Union announced on Monday that Trinidad & Tobago goalkeeper Thorne Holder has been reacquired.

Holder was waived on July 26, presumably to free up an international spot on the Union roster. With the summer transfer window now closed, and the sole Union signing being the American Freddy Adu, Holder returns to the club to re-fill the vacant third goalkeeper role.

And from the looks of things this is about as easy a path as the USA could hope for. No real threats until the Hexagon.
The USA enters in Round 3 (of 4) and has been drawn into Group A with Jamaica & the winners of what look to be the 2 weakest groups from the previous round (Rd 2) E & F.

The Union announced on Tuesday afternoon that third-string goalkeeper Thorne Holder has been waived.

The 25-year-old Trinidad & Tobago native was acquired by the Union from Adelphi University on March 1.

Holder made no professional league appearances for the Union.

The big news from yesterday's announcement by the FIFA Ethics Committee was the life ban to FIFA Executive Committee member Mohammed Bin Hammam, but there were other decisions that affected officials in CONCACAF. CFU members Debbie Minguell and Jason Sylvester, both of Trinidad & Tobago, were banned from participating in all soccer-related activities for one year.

Word out of Trinidad today is that Sporting KC has a new central defender. Long time target Daneil Cyrus is on his way to KC on a loan deal from his Trinidad club, Santa Rosa FC apparently. Cyrus had impressed during the preseason and the team had tried to work out a deal, but back in March word from Cyrus' club was that the offer was too low.

Javier Hernandez has scored yet another goal for Mexico in the Gold Cup, this time against Guatemala. After going a goal down early on this quarter-final, Aldo de Nigris equalised for the Mexicans, before Chicharito scored the winner on 66 minutes.

Mexico will now face Honduras in the semi-final on June 22nd and could face USA, Jamaica, Panama or El Salvador in the final, with the other quarter-finals being played today.

Later today the 2014 World Cup qualifying cycle will start with the preliminary round tie between Montserrat and Belize. St Lucia and Aruba were supposed to get things started a couple of weeks ago, but those matches were pushed back for who knows what reason. Montserrat-Belize could be postponed at the last minute, and there have been rumblings from Belize about a standoff between the national government and the federation that would produce just that, but Montserrat's team is in Trinidad & Tobago and they expect the match to go ahead today.

Alpha United became the first Guyanese club to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League after defeating Trinidad's Defence Force in the third place game of the CFU Club Championship. The match finished 1-1 after 120 minutes, and Alpha United won on penalties. More information to follow later. Last night Tempête FC became the first Haitian side to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League after defeating Trinidad's Defence Force on penalties in a CFU Club Championship semifinal. The match ended goalless but Tempête won the penalty shootout 4-2. This is very positive news for Haitian football a year and a half after the catastrophic Haitian earthquake, and if the Haitian federation can find a stadium in the country that meets CONCACAF standards, they will play either Isidro Metapán or Morelia in the preliminary round.
