Former Rapids striker and current Houston Dynamo assistant coach John Spencer reportedly is a
candidate for the Portland Timbers' head coaching position.
OregonLive.com reports that Spencer met with owner Merritt Paulson and others on the Timbers'
staff within the past few days in Portland.

Mail on Sunday says Mourinho is ready to make one last-ditch attempt to sign Gerrard. The Real
Madrid coach is trying to persuade the Bernabeu hierarchy to offer the £30million required to

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has slammed the Argentine FA for sacking Diego Maradona.
They are now preparing for life without Maradona, starting with a friendly against Republic of
Ireland on Wednesday when Sergio Batista will be in temporary charge. But Tevez has criticised AFA
president Julio Grondona, saying Maradona had been told his job was safe after the defeat to
Germany.

Mark Schwarzer has submitted a transfer request at Fulham, it has been revealed. The Sun says
Schwarzer has stunned new Fulham boss Mark Hughes by slapping in a transfer request. The Aussie

wants Schwarzer to stay and will play hardball.
Barcelona's players have continued their call to Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas on their own TV
