Costa Rica-Uruguay: Everything in place

HexagonalBlog 14 November @ 01:28 AM EST
Uruguay's national team is now in Costa Rica, and they've had their one (and only) training session on the artificial surface at Saprissa. (I had thought that FIFA regulations required at least two training sessions on artificial turf, but I could be wrong.) Óscar Washington Tabárez, Uruguay's coach, almost certainly has his starting XI ready, with the only doubt being Walter Gargano. Click to continue reading...

Club v Country

Bitter and Blue 13 November @ 03:40 AM EST
Hard to keep him out of the headlines at the moment:

They had hoped to dissuade Robinho from reporting for international duty but relented after agreeing to send their own doctor with him so the injury could be assessed by Brazil's medical staff.

City had hoped Robinho would then fly back with them but have had to relent further, agreeing to him staying with Brazil – although they did not expect him to fly on to Oman for next Tuesday's match.

Is the game up for Dean Ashton?

Soccer Pie 12 November @ 05:14 AM EST

It is starting to look as if West Ham striker Dean Ashton could be forced to retire from the game at just 25-years-old.

The former Norwich forward broke his left ankle while training with the England squad in 2006 and has been unable to recover from the injury.

Hammer boss Gianfranco Zola had this to say on his situation: "When something like this happens, it is very much personal.

A day in the life of Raymond Domenech

Dirty Tackle 11 November @ 07:16 AM EST

Everybody hates French national team manager Raymond Domenech. This is a well established fact. When he's not getting called "a man who seems intent on messing them [France] up" in the press by opposing players, he's getting booed by his countrymen and laughed at by his own players at the Paris Bercy Indoor Masters ATP tennis tournament (as you can kind of make out in the horrible quality video above).

Gossip on the Guys: Pep Looking Patchy

Barcelista 07 November @ 11:29 AM EST
What in the world is Pep wearing? This is certainly not his best moment in press conference attire, or any occasion attire, for that matter.
We're mortified a bit. Why would you even glance twice at such an abysmal sweater - except to gawk at it - let alone buy it and actually wear it? At a press conference in front of forty hundred cameras? Click to continue reading...

Video: Bayern use Water Cannon against their own Fans

The Offside: Bundesliga 06 November @ 11:34 AM EST

Bayern Munich fans are certainly not in a particularly good mood at the moment. The situation in the Bundesliga is far from hopeless but still disappointing, while Bayern will need a miracle of sorts to progress in the Champions League. Thus, some fans may be in disbelieve, some may question the coach or the players, others blame the transfer policy and a few probably just desperately hope for Ribery to return and make it all right again.

This week's QOTW is Fabio Capello talking about his first training session with the England Squad, the Italian manager has guided England to qualification, and he will most probably guide them through South Africa 2010.
"I remember the first training session and I was surprised because the players were really good,"
- Fabio Capello
A bit of humor for this week's QOTW, Capello was very surprised because he thought that because England didn't make it the the 2008 Euro's, the players would not be of high quality. Click to continue reading...

Barca Buzz: They Want To Stop Us With Grass

Barcelista 04 November @ 11:00 AM EST
Last night we read that Rubin Kazan's manager had instructed the Russian club's groundskeeper not to trim the grass in the stadium, so that it would slow Barca down. Now, it is quite flattering that other teams feel the need to go to such measures when facing us, but really, it's starting to get a bit old. Click to continue reading...

I never thought I'd say it, but this is it the eyebrow of seduction is just too powerful. It needs to be reigned in and controlled like a military grade weapon. While I realize that the news of Landon Donovan winning his latest US Soccer's Honda Player Of The Year award isn't exactly new, I thought it was important to discuss the progress of the USA's number 10. I myself will be the first to admit was one of his fiercest critics not because of his three stints in the Bundesliga, but because at one time his attitude was all wrong.
