The FA Cup has always had an easier time of it. Like the traditional North American pro sports
leagues, it's been around forever, basking in the tradition and resonance that comes with heritage.
It's not so easy for the League Cup. Depending on what sponsor has attached a name to it, it gets
the kind of treatment associated with Major League Soccer in the United States.
The Philadelphia Union will host the 2012 Major League Soccer All-Star Game, MLS announced in a
ceremony at Philadelphia City Hall. The game will be played at PPL Park on July 25th at 8pm ET on
ESPN2. An opponent has yet to be named, but it will be an international club as in previous years.
"Philadelphia has a deep tradition of playing and supporting soccer, and the huge, enthusiastic fan
base of the Philadelphia Union.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Jan 24, 2012) US Soccer Players -- The National Team is one game
into a two-game series that caps another January camp. This annual tradition gives a coach the
opportunity to audition players over several weeks, a rarity in most countries. US coach Jurgen
Klinsmann has already shown a willingness to experiment, using a different formation from what
we've seen with his first choice roster.
There's likely little to emerge in terms of highlights from yesterday's match on the Liverpool
end of things, the only action worth recounting in any way is the play of Craig Bellamy, who was
involved in nearly everything positive that Liverpool did, with Daniel Agger the only other squad
member worth mentioning for a few forward runs and a thirty-yard bullet that clipped the top of the
bar.
I appealed because I obviously completely disagreed with the interpretation of the officials on
the day but that happens in football and we move on. I wonder though if we are now going to see an
unprecedented wave of red cards on match days because we sanction "if's" and "maybe's"? Are we
going to look back at video evidence for every single challenge that goes unnoticed by the
officials, look at different scenarios and potential outcomes of what could have been considered a
good tackle and then sanction it?

Benoit Assou Ekotto's spectacular 30 yard strike continued a tradition of Spurs long range bombs
in recent times - Danny Rose, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Tom Huddlestone, Kyle Walker, come to mind. The
first goal came from Aaron Lennon, cutting past Leighton Baines, after the left back completely
missed clearing a long diagonal ball from Ekotto, and then shooting past the diving Tim Howard.

Taking only a point in their last league match forced Manchester City to lose their gap in the
top of the table with Manchester United, as Sir Alex Ferguson's team have now equaled Mancini's
sided points, only to lose out on goal difference.
Revealing the causes of Man City's recent slip, the club's goalie, Joe Hart, admitted that
they're beginning to feel the pressure in becoming the league leader and also team to beat in
England.

Real Madrid's reserve string spanked third tier side SD Ponferradina 5-1 in the Copa del Rey
last night, with Callejon (2), Sahin, Varane and Joselu sealing a fairly comprehensive 7-1
aggregate win for the La Liga leaders but that didn't dampen the spirits of Ponferradina right-back
Dani Carril who, forgoing the tradition of swapping shirts with your opposite number, went straight
to the top and asked Jose Mourinho for his gillet after the final whistle.
Italian Serie A club Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio, commonly known as just Atalanta, has launched a
special edition Errea Christmas 2011 jersey. The new kit continues a tradition started by the club
in 2010 in which a one-off Christmas themed jersey is used what Atalanta deems to be its "Christmas
Match" for season.

AC Milan have a tradition of employing a 'Mini Selecao' within their team, which means their
players feel at 'home' more due to the large number of Rossoneri Brazilian players stationed there.
Obviously, it's churrascaria at Robinho's porch every Sunday... there's

BEM-VINDO aaao Selecao Bootcamp, a tradition we have on the Brazilian National Team.
There are only two ways to get by the next few days soldier on and take it like a
man (boring) or spice it up and go crazy, David Luiz style! Of course, everybody
prefers the second one, especially when they'd rather be at home doing gloriously fun things like
barbecuing on Anderson's front porch in a sarong (here's looking at you,
Fabio!
The Golden ball has released their shortlist of players of which one will be chosen as the
undisputed best player for this past year. Yet, as it's been the case for a couple of years now,
the shortlist raised more questions than provided answers.
The list, which is chosen by France Football Magazine, has always had its critics although as of
late, it has attracted more widespread criticism than ever before.
Over at FOF people are wondering if Fulham have the worst badge in the league. I'll save the
cheap shots no mentions of swastikas or of the design being created by a six year old here! and
instead cut to the chase: since so many people like the old Fulham badge, what exactly did we gain
by updating it?

Jurgen Klinsmann's stable of youth coaches continues to evolve.
Richie Williams was hired by U.S. Soccer as the coach of the Under-18 national team on Monday,
joining Caleb Porter (U-23) and Tab Ramos (U-20) as recent youth coaching hires under Klinsmann
who will look to discover and develop the next generation of U.
Richie Williams is in the D.C. United Hall of Tradition but hasn't been offered an MLS head
coaching job. Discuss.
Carthage Tigers, 2010 Class 3 Sectional winners
Nice story about the Tigers who reached the Quarterfinals last year, losing to Rock Bridge at
Columbia. Click on the link to be taken to the video.
Head Coach Jacob Osborne deserves a lot of credit for creating the environment the Tigers needed
to re-establish the winning tradition at Carthage, with District titles the past three years.
Wayne Rooney has been absolutely superb this season for Manchester United, he is the Premier
League's top goalscorer with nine goals. However, he was sent-off while playing for England last
night in a Euro 2012 qualifier. It is the second time Rooney has been sent-off while playing for
his country. In the wake of that early bath and in time honoured tradition, predictably, the press

Dear readers,
Due to the Jewish High Holy day of Yom Kippur, I must inform you that the Brotherly Game will be

predominately Jewish and will be at services, or with family and friends, for the most part of the
day.
Bem-vindo a Selecao Bootcamp, a Fútbolita tradition! And yes, the
Brazilians have been very flashy as of late especially with Dani Alves channeling
his inner Usher above as he arrived from Barcelona with Thiago

Real Madrid's Marcelo included).
Reports Would Mean First Kick Won't Be At CenturyLink Field
Assuming reports out of Toronto are true, the MLS season will start the weekend of March 10.
With the Sounders already scheduled to be playing CONCACAF Champions League that week, this would
mean an end to the three-year tradition of First Kick being held in Seattle.
Hello there. I celebrated my birthday in fine style last night by spilling a whole pint right
over the Mugsmasher's pants. I think I might make that some kind of tradition. Thank you to
everyone for their kind wishes via Twitter etc, much appreciated.
We'll start this morning with the news that Jack Wilshere did indeed have his surgery
yesterday.
Greg's back to wish Mickey and Wayne Rooney 'Happy Birthday; to welcome the return of Sandro, the
return to scoring form of Defoe and Luka and the revival of the ancient Spurs tradition of passing

Photo- and video-bombing the bejesus each other is a tradition that is taken very seriously down
Chelsea way (see here and here for details) and with the cameras
knocking around at Cobham for the club's official team photo shoot, serial offenders David Luiz,
Paulo Ferreira and Branoslav Ivanovic just couldn't help themselves.

It's gonna be a short one today, I can guarantee you that. There's so little going on it could

Liverpool look set to seal their sixth signing of the summer by completing a deal for Uruguayan

Extended match highlights. In what seems to be somwthing of a tradition now, Newcastle United faced
their usual stiff test against one of the 'top four' clubs in their first game of the Premiership
season. Those who might have been expecting a repeat of the last fixture against the Gunners were
to be disappointed.
