FIFA's Club World Cup is again taking football down the wrong alley. FIFA is looking at the
financial gains in organizing this competition instead of prioritizing the 3 key points that matter
most:
- Stay close to the fans of the competing clubs
- Bring back the passion of a 2 leg competition in the home stadiums of the 2 finalists
- Limit this to a European vs South American champion final (until other continents reach the
same level of football excellence)
Instead of that, the current edition is played in the neutral grounds of Japan or UAE for
so-called football promotion efforts and some degree of sponsorship pressure (thanks Toyota.
19.12.2011 - No es novedad que Messi no se lleva bien con las cámaras fuera del verde

Aquí se confirma que las segundas partes nunca fueron buenas. Después de la

extroversión.
Yesterday's 4-0 thrashing of Santos was a result not many people were expecting, especially
after their amazing semi final victory over Kashiwa Reysol. Many including myself were expecting
Santos to put up a stiff fight if not go all the way.
However, once again Lionel Messi was the hero for the Catalans as he scored a brace to see the
European champions add yet another trophy to their cabinet.

The Chicago Fire will play in their earliest regular-season home opener when they kick off their
2012 Major League Soccer campaign.
The Fire and other MLS teams announced their 2012 home dates on Tuesday, and Chicago hosts a match
at Toyota Park on March 24.
Every Friday seems to be "World Club Cup" Friday here, but believe us... it's purely
coincidental! Neymar, Elano and the rest of the Santos clan joined
Brazil's Japanese consul general and his cute kimono-wearing wife Eiko Obe, during
a "farewell party" at their residences in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The Chicago Fire wanted to end their season on a high note, and they did so by
reaching the .500 mark for the first time since April 9.
Fire forward Diego Chaves scored his second game-winning goal in as many games and Fire defender
Jalil Anibaba had two goals as Chicago topped the Columbus Crew, 3-2, on Saturday in front of a
sellout crowd of 20,237 at Toyota Park.
The end of the 2011 season is here. Chicago has been eliminated from the playoffs prior to their
last game of the year. This battle is reminiscent of last year's October 8th battle where a down
and out Fire squad dispatched a playoff bound Columbus team 2-0 at Toyota Park. Nothing but pride
is on the line tonight but that's still a big deal at the end of the day.
Automotive car giant, Toyota Motor Corporation has signed on to become the official sponsor of the
Japan Women's Football League. The agreement, which began this month, will be active until March
2013. As the official sponsor of the Nadeshiko League, the collective name of the Plenus National
League and Plenus Challenge League, Toyota Motor Company's name will be front and center when
Arsenal Ladies makes its first appearance in Japan against the Nadeshiko League champions in the
Toyota Vitz Cup on November 30th.

The Chicago Fire were eliminated from postseason contention on Thursday when the New York Red Bulls
defeated the Philadelphia Union, 1-0, at Red Bull Arena.
Though the official ruling was an own goal by Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon in the eighth
minute, it was the Red Bulls' Dane Richards who put his header on frame to lead to the game's only
goal.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- Chicago Fire midfielder Sebastian Grazzini's hamstring problems continue to
persist. Heading into the Fire's home finale against the Columbus Crew on Saturday at Toyota Park,
Grazzini's status could change day by day.
Chicago 1 - Dallas 2 Two teams going different directions at Toyota Park in suburban Chicago. For
the Fire, it's a realistic end to their playoff chances. For Dallas, it's the playoffs. Dallas led
2-0 with goals from Jackson in the 41st minute and Daniel Cruz in the 52nd. After Chicago's Pavel
Pardo was ejected in the 78th, Sebastian Grazzini ruined Kevin Hartman's shutout attempt in the
85th minute.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The Chicago Fire missed out on the Brimstone Cup yet again. But even worse,
their postseason hopes virtually have been eliminated.
Sebastian Grazzini's late goal for the Fire was all Chicago could muster as FC Dallas gained a
two-goal lead and held on for a 2-1 victory on Wednesday in front of 10,362 at Toyota Park.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The Chicago Fire made an early push on the offensive end, and they needed every
goal to overcome a late lapse on the defensive end against the New England Revolution on Sunday.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The theme for the Chicago Fire will not change over the next several weeks.
Chicago is in must-win mode with six regular-season matches remaining. And as long as the rest of
the MLS field continues to oblige by keeping the Fire in the mix, that outside chance of a
postseason berth remains.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The Chicago Fire could not have drawn up a better start. The only question was
whether Chicago could finish, especially playing down a man.
In an up-and-down match that included a two-goal lead followed by a level second half, the Fire's
Dominic Oduro came to the rescue with a shorthanded, game-winning goal in the 85th minute to lead
Chicago to a 3-2 victory over Chivas USA on Saturday in front of 15,246 at Toyota Park.
For those of you not yet in the know, the league's next SSS will be planted in downtown Houston,
across the street from the Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park to create a nice little walking
Stadium District. The only outlier is, ahem, Reliant, a millennial stadium with very little
personality that is inexplicably located on the outskirts of downtown.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The game had no implications, but the Chivas de Guadalajara fandom came out in
full force in the loudest environment at Toyota Park this year.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The Chicago Fire more or less are approaching Wednesday's international
friendly against Chivas de Guadalajara as a high-profile training session. Midweek typically marks
Chicago's hardest training to prepare for a weekend match, and Fire interim head coach Frank Klopas
plans to use his lineup significantly when it hosts Chivas at Toyota Park.
Chicago is one of my favorite cities. Anyone who has been there can tell you about its intimate
downtown neighborhoods and gorgeous vistas. During last year's D.C. United visit to the Windy City,
I received a quality prank from the players. Jump ahead to 2011, and history
repeated itself at the very same restaurant.
The Chicago Fire may be on a three game win streak, but as things stand, the 2011 season has
failed to live up to the Fire's high expectations. Frank Klopas must take the brunt of the blame
for the Fire's failures to date this season. Now before anyone jumps down my throat I want to point
out that as it stands, the Fire are almost certainly not going to make the Playoffs and are playing
the U.
The Seattle Sounders and Chicago Fire advanced to the US Open Cup final on Wednesday night. Chicago
beat the Richmond Kickers 2-1 at Toyota Park, taking a 2-0 lead with goals from Sebastian Grazzini
and Dominic Oduro. Richmond scored in the 68th minute but were unable to come up with an equalizer.
At the Starfire Complex in Tukwila, Washington, the home standing Sounders needed a 40th minute
goal from Fredy Montero to shutout Dallas.
When I got up this morning there were some things on the "to do" checklist.
1. Make it to Toyota Park.
2. Advance to USOC Final.
3. Completely destroy my voice over 90 minutes of singing.
Mission accomplished.
I just got home. It is 12:26 AM and I've got a recap to finish.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- It was not the smoothest of performances for the Chicago Fire. But the home
side did its job on Tuesday in topping the USL Pro's Richmond Kickers, 2-1, in the semifinals of
the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Toyota Park.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- The four-time Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champion Chicago Fire have touted their
best available lineup throughout this year's tournament.
The same cannot be said for some other MLS squads, and you only have to look at the Fire's 4-0
quarterfinal win over a reserve-laden New York Red Bulls side on July 12 to come to that
conclusion.

Dominic Oduro and Cory Gibbs each netted a goal and Chicago topped the Colorado Rapids, 2-0, on

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- It has been 16 months since the Chicago Fire have posted back-to-back
victories. They have an opportunity to put an end to that trend when they host the 2010 MLS
champion Colorado Rapids on Saturday at Toyota Park.
US Soccer has announced the potential hosting venues for the USOC final this season. As you
would expect with three of the four teams being from MLS, they have the hosting rights depending on
the matchup.
Very interesting possibilities either way, none too surprising as Seattle would always give the
USSF the best possible chance at a good crowd for the final.

We aren't quite to Hot Time In Old Town's one-year anniversary (September 14) so that makes a
couple of new changes and announcements around here all the more exciting. First off, if you like
Hot Time in Old Town, there is now an iPhone app for that. Well technically there's an app for SB

You ever wonder what goes on in the tunnel in the run up to gametime? I'll tell you: it's nothing
but champagne & Gatorade spritzers and all-you-can-eat crabcakes. Can you believe that sh*t? No?
Good because I'm lying.
The tunnel is a place where 20 year-old keepers give pounds to white-haired security guards, cleats
make an exceptionally loud sound and bro hugs are often doled out at a
backstage-at-the-Source-Awards frequency.
