The Old Man of Senegal.

Avenell Road 04 October @ 06:18 AM EST

Has the transfer window opened again? I awoke to see the headlines about Arsenal being linked to three players. Bolton's Gary Cahill just as a back up centre half, he could be just the answer especially with Johan out until February with a knee injury, Song our other back up centre half going to the Africa Cup of Nations.

EPL Talk 08 September @ 01:34 PM EST

Admiral Capello strides onto the bridge. "Status report, Lieutenant Rooney!" he shouts.

Rooney is grim. "The Croatians have boarded the ship, Sir," he says. "They've already scored two goals."

"I see," says Capello. He turns to his chief defensive officer.

Hinos Nacionais

Football For Breakfast

EPL Talk 27 July @ 01:28 PM EST

Sunday morning, 26th of July:

On five hours of sleep, I pull myself from my bedroom, cross the hall to the living room and land on the couch. It's a journey of maybe 20 feet, but it feels like Stage 20 of the Tour de France. I am a zombie on NyQuil dragging bags of concrete behind me.

Letters From Vagabondia 25 July @ 07:59 PM EST
American Lance Armstrong seems to be channeling Paolo Maldini these days by hanging tough with athletes who were born at least a decade after him. Today on the Tour de France's gruelling 20th stage ride up Mont Ventoux, Armstrong beat back several attacks to cement his third place standing for the ride into Paris tomorrow. UEFA Champions League Qualifiers Round Up

Some People are On The Pitch 22 July @ 05:26 PM EST
The road to the Champions League group stages is longer and more treacherous than Alberto Contador on the mountain stages of the Tour de France.
Of course some clubs are not required to join that road until it becomes a lot wider with tarmac, cat's eyes and those flashing signs warning you against bottle necks at Junction 11. Click to continue reading...

Footy Thoughts in the Middle of Summer

Soccer Statistics 20 July @ 06:50 AM EST
I'm currently sitting in my summer apartment in a secret Mediterranean coastal city. It is 35 degrees celsius outside, and I've decided to take a day off from the beach and watch Tour de France highlights on my summer channel of Eurosport. For the uninitiated, with six stages remaining, Alberto Contador of Spain is in the lead (Spain appear to be the champions of sport at the moment), followed by Lance Armstrong in second and Bradley Wiggins of the UK in third. Le Tour de France Arriveè à Issoudun

Blargins Injury Time 14 July @ 02:15 PM EST

Special post today, as I attended my first ever Tour de France stage. This was to be the tenth stage of the 2009 Tour de France and covered 194.5km from Limoges to Issoudun in Indre, about 50kms from where I live. I have driven this route before and by car, takes a good couple of hours to do.

The programme suggested getting into position at around 3pm as this was the expected time of arrival of the riders.

You’re doing it wrong

Dirty Tackle 09 July @ 12:53 PM EST

As teams begin to train for the upcoming season, players are forced to get back in shape after a few weeks off, where they probably laid around, having sex done to them by anonymous strangers and eating like life was one big never-ending hot dog eating contest (or so I imagine).

Well, perhaps inspired by the Tour de France, Borussia Dortmund decided to go for a bike ride and it seems defender Patrick Owomoyela wasn't exactly prepared for it.

A Little Summer Reading

English Soccer Talk 11 July @ 02:51 PM EST
These are truly the dog days of summer. With apologies to Arena Football, baseball and cycling (Tour de France) are the only major sports going on right now, and we're waiting until late summer/fall when the sports calendar will really get busy again.

Can US Soccer or MLS take a page from cycling marketing?

Fighting Talker 30 June @ 08:25 AM EST
Take a look at this page setup by the Versus network to buildup to its coverage of this year's Tour de France.
