Tom Marshall in his blog FMF State of Mind highlights the possible repercussions of the drug cartel related violence that erupted outside the Estadio Corona in Torreon which brought a match between home team Santos Laguna and Monarcas Morelia to a standstill this weekend.

The shootout between the drug cartels and police authorities led to the players and officials fleeing the field and as the gunfire intensified part of the crowd invaded the pitch heading towards the exits.

The U.S. U-17 MNT spent its morning at Estadio Corregidora watching the final match of the group stage - a game that was suspended last night between Australia and Denmark.
Denmark needed a win to advance to the Round of 16, and it looked like they had one locked up, but an 89th minute strike from Rochester Sorenson tied the game and sent the Aussies to the knock out round.

Today is the "official" begining of the U-17 World Cup, which means all of the FIFA officials and all four Group D teams have arrived in Torreon.
Even though the U.S. team has been here for a few days now, we had our official "Arrival Meeting" with FIFA. It began with a presentation by a referee instructor, who talked to the players and coaches about some of the things that referees will be looking for in Mexico.

Today, on the way to our closed-door scrimmage, the U-17s took a quick tour of Estadio Corona. The home of Santos Laguna, the stadium will play host to the first two U.S. games at the U-17 World Cup, and all four teams will utilize their training facilities throughout their time in Torreon.
We'll have much more on the local club and Estadio Corona throughout the week.

It was a light session for the U-17s today in Torreon after a late night of traveling. The boys went out and loosened up their legs for just more than hour this evening, in an effort to make it back in time to watch the MNT take on Panama in the Gold Cup.
