One day after Paul the Octopus died, Argentina's former president Néstor Kirchner also passed
away. He was the husband of current president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, and the whole
country's been thrown into chaos for the day, as if it ... Continue reading →
As I've done in every year of HEGS' existence, always at great inconvenience to myself (seriously,
you wouldn't believe how long it takes to pull this information together for such a short post)
you'll find here the only single page ... Continue reading →
No, not in the Primera. Sunday saw the first competitive football of 2010 in Argentina, but it
didn't come in the form of a particularly tasty Torneo de Verano match. The Torneos del Interior,
the third division of the non-affiliated Torneos Argentinos, kicked off this weekend. There'll be
matches stretching from the Bolivian borderlands right [.
You're probably wondering who in the world is Club Atlético Patronato de la Juventud Católica.
Well, they are an Argentine football club from the city of Paraná currently competing in the
Torneo Argentino A (Argentina's third tier of football). Based on the number of corporate logos on
their kits, they're also clearly well-sponsored.
Photo by guille rusconi on the HEGS Flickr pool It's a bit late this year, but with the pre-seasons
well and truly underway it's about time HEGS explained the teams who will be changing divisions
this year. We've got the Copa Sudamericana participants, and every promotion and relegation through
the Argentine league, down to and including [.
Last season they were playing in the Torneo Argentino A, the third division section for clubs not
affiliated to the AFA, but on Sunday Atlético Tucumán ensured their city will continue to have
Primera División representation next season by thrashing relegation-threatened Talleres de
Córdoba 4-1 to confirm the B Nacional title.
The goals from the seventh round of the 2009 Torneo Clausura are online now, and you can view all
21 of them on the TN Sportblog by clicking here. Read on for the running order of this video, and a
link to the goals from the lower divisions this weekend if you want to see [...]
At the time of writing, TN haven't got round to putting this week's Show de Goles onto their blog
yet, so instead, I'm embedding it directly into this page. Read on to see the goals, and the normal
running order, as well as a couple of links to the TN videos of goals from the [...]
As promised earlier on Tuesday, I'm following up the (affiliated) lower division roundup with a
quick look back on the positions so far in the Torneo Argentino A, and also attempting to explain
how on earth Argentino B, which really does make the Primera A system of relegation and continental
Copa qualification look like the [.
With the completion at the weekend of the Promociónes, the 2007-2008 season is now complete in
Argentina. Racing, of course, are the most notable survivors of the relegations playoffs, but there
have been shocks in other divisions with little-fancied All Boys winning the Primera B
championship, and Nueva Chicago losing their playoff to fall down [.
My latest piece for Pitch Invasion looks back on the black weekend Argentine football has just
experienced, and explains some of the issues behind the security operations, and what might be
considered by the Argentine media in the coming weeks. There's also a really rather good photo (if
I say so myself).
The circumstances surrounding Emanuel Alvarez's death whilst travelling to see Vélez Sársfield
take on San Lorenzo in the Nuevo Gasometro are being slowly pieced together. In the last
two-and-a-half days there has been, though, no shortage of disagreement about who exactly the
killer was - an Huracán barra?
If you've got little to do today, and like looking at numbers a bit, make your way over to the
recently expanded Tables page. There, you'll find the embryonic league table for the Torneo de
Verano, as well as the final standings in the Apertura and the top scorers for that campaign - as
well [...]
My initial intention was to post this last night, but illness put paid to that, so apologies to
anyone who got excited when reading about the return of this feature on Sunday's post. Primeras C
and D were still in action on the weekend of the 15th December, so step this way for the results
[...]
As the least widely-read of the site's weekly features, I hope those who do use this update will
forgive me for curtailing it during my few weeks 'doing' Spain. Scores will be given without
scorers, but I'll try and include the normal links to the lower division scores as often as
possible. In B Nacional [...]
The latest rounds of matches in Argentina's lower divisions are staggered and some won't be fully
completed until Tuesday, but here you'll find the results thus far for B Nacional, and links to
those from the other divisions (which pages will be updated as and when the remaining scores come
in). In B Nacional, there [...]
Primera A sees the clásico rosarino on Sunday as Newell's, without a win in three, host Central,
without a win at all this season, in El Coloso del Parque. Vélez visit Racing and two of the
newly-promoted sides meet as Huracán host San Martín. In B Nacional, Ferro take on Almirante
Brown on Friday. Step this way [...]
It's that time of week again. Round 7 of the Apertura is upon us, with River vs. Vélez probably
acting as the round's standout fixture, although it'll be interesting to see how Huracán get on
under caretaker managership, as they host Gimnasia. In B Nacional, the theme is very much Mendoza
vs. Córdoba, with Independiente [...]
Another round is over, and we've seen the last undefeated record in the top flight (Huracán's)
fall, other promoted sides claim important points and a clásico that finished all square and left
no-one really satisfied. Notable results in the lower divisions were Aldosivi's demolition job
against Independiente Rivadavia and Talleres' win over Instituto in this [.
Midweek matches are very disorienting. No sooner have we recovered from the glut of goals in round
5, than round 6 arrives to dizzy us all again. This weekend's main clash in the top flight is the
clásico between Racing and River, which is set to see mass protests from the home fans at the
[...]
It's been quite a weekend whilst I've been away, with 25 goals, a shock win for one of the newly
promoted sides, Independiente maintaining their 100% start to the season, a late penalty at La
Bombonera and another good away win for Banfield. In the lower divisions, Belgrano ran out
victorious in the Córdoba derby, [...]
The fourth round of the Torneo Apertura is upon us, as well as a fresh lot of fixtures in the lower
leagues. The main highlight of this weekend in the clash of last season's two champions: Apertura
winners Estudiantes host Clausura champions San Lorenzo. In B Nacional, meanwhile, the Córdoba
derby sees Instituto take on [...]
The lastest round of fixtures in the lower divisions are nearly all done and dusted already this
week, only one game still to be played as this story went online, the Primera B match between
Central Córdoba de Rosario and Atlanta. The first round of Argentino A saw a big win for 9 de
Julio, [...]
The third round of fixtures in the Primera A Apertura, and the second round of Primera B Nacional
fixtures, will be played this weekend, and can be seen (along with the other AFA-affiliated
divisions) here. The most notable fixture of the weekend is the season's first clash of two 'Big
Five' sides, when River travel [...]

Club Atlético Talleres is a sports club from the city of Córdoba, Argentina, best known for its
professional soccer team. The club currently plays in the regionalised third division for Argentine
soccer the Torneo Argentino A. Talleres last competed in the top flight of soccer in Argentina in
the 2003/04 season.
