1. After years of singing that scores when he wants, Arsenal fans must be wishing that Robin Van Persie hadn't wanted to score against them with his first touch. 2. It was a great weekend for Manchester United. They were the only side in the top six to take all three points. 3. Roberto Martinez [...]
Liverpool have completed the signing of Samed Yesil from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
The 18-year-old striker becomes the latest youngster acquired by Brendan Rodgers after passing a
medical on Thursday.
Yesil is of Turkish descent and has scored 22 goals in 26 appearances for Germany at U16, U17 and
U18 level.

Everton defeated Manchester United 1-0 on a second half goal to conclude the first round of
matches in the 2012-13 English Premier League season. The Toffees have always been a solid team at
home but they were not expected to get the win or even a draw.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson chose not to start newly signed Robin van Persie but instead
have Kagawa, Nani, and Welbeck supporting Rooney in the attack.
Just like last season, Arsenal's squad has been stung by two big name departures in the closing
weeks of the transfer window.
Alex Song becomes the latest to jump ship for a deal worth around £16 million, joining former
team-mate Cesc Fabregas at Barcelona whilst the shock transfer of Robin van Persie to arch rivals
Manchester United will seem all the more real today when he debuts for the Red Devils against
Everton.
It was deja-vu all over again for Manchester City as the Premier League champions opened their
title defence with a thrilling win over newly-promoted Southampton. Not only was the score exactly
the same as that never-to-be-forgotten final home game against Queens Park Rangers last season, so
was the scoring sequence, and even the ends they went in at the Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal Fans Of course they have every right to be worried. They have lost the Player of the Year
and their captain. Without Van Persie last season they would have finished 12th. But there are
reasons for optimism. Olivier Giroud was the top scorer in Ligue Un last season and Lukas Podolski
has only four [.
Fernando Torres has had to get used to the pressure of his price tag and the constant scrutiny of
the press and media about his performances ever since he signed for Chelsea. Now that Didier Drogba
has gone, there are already stories about Chelsea "lacking" firepower this season but today
Fernando Torres has a chance to start the season on a high and begin to answer all those critics
with goals against City at Villa Park.
Hello and good morning to you. Or afternoon or evening, depending on where you are. The big boys
returned for the first full session of training at Arsenal, full as in everyone is involved. In the
bulged bunch of players to add to those who already restarted training last week and play in the
Memorial Cup, it includes want-away Robin van Persie, still captain of Arsenal.
Dimitar Berbatov has today confirmed he wants to leave the club after hardly getting a look in
on the team last season. Despite being the Premier League top scorer the season before, Berbatov
only played in 12 league games last season. He scored 7 goals in these brief appearances but that
wasn't enough to convince the manager he should be anything better than fourth choice.
With a statement on his official website, Arsenal captain and Premier League top scorer Robin
van Persie, announced that he will not renew his contract with the club. The timing and content of
the statement were both curious since Arsene Wenger had just said, "We want to keep Robin van
Persie at all costs, because we depend on him offensively.

Tottenham Hotspur's last minute swoop to acquire Clint Dempsey for around $9.6 million may have
come as a surprise, but on paper at least the move makes a lot of sense for both parties.
New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has now missed out on signing Glyfi Sigurdsson after the
midfielder completed his switch to Tottenham, so should the club now turn their attention to
Fulham's own goal-scoring midfielder Clint Dempsey?
There have been reports that Liverpool are preparing an offer in excess of £10million for the
American who last season was the top scoring midfielder in the Premier League with 17 goals.
According to Globoesporte, Spurs have representatives in Porto Alegre hoping to clinch a deal
with Internacional over Leandro Damião.
Tottenham have already had previous bids turned down but the London club are confident of getting
their man this time round.
Inter president, Giovanni Luigi, said that the Beira-Rio side will only sell the striker if the
price is right.
We've had our doubts about Leandro Damiao, but he always comes back to prove
the critics wrong! Last night, the Internacional stiker scored twice in Brazil's 3-0 win over South
Korea to set up a tasty final against Mexico, who have also qualified for
Saturday's final despite a series of shaky performances.
A few weeks ago, while covering Arsenal on tour, Futbolita spoke to the lovely Mikel
Arteta about Arsenal's upcoming season, his newborn son Daniel, life in the Premiership,
the tough preseason and his dreams of playing for Spain. Arteta is one of those rare players you
could absolutely stop on the pitch and do a "high-five" while yelling "manana,
OK tipo?
With the Community Shield done and dusted and Manchester City already a trophy up on everyone
else, you know it's getting close there's ripples in the jelly and velociraptor breath condensing
on the kitchen doors.
Not that football ever actually goes away these days, but the new Premier League season is
almost upon us basically, you've got five days to say your goodbyes to your loved ones and family,
source your cheap football shirts and re-calibrate your arse indentation on the settee.
Tim Cahill plays much, much larger than his 5' 8" frame
The Red Bulls get a shot in the arm with Tim Cahill's move to the MLS on a £1m transfer. At
Everton and as a Socceroo, Cahill is best known for some outrageous goals emerging through a
thicket of tall defenders to score via one of the hardest noggin in the business.

Liverpool is set to make a £5m move for Fulham striker Clint Dempsey.
Martin Jol is desperate to keep last season's top scorer and has offered the American a new deal to
keep him at Craven Cottage.
But with just 12 months left on his current deal sources close to the club have told talkSPORT they
are bracing themselves for a bid from Liverpool.
Racing Portuense academy manager John Gontier has proudly revealed the placement of two players
following the completion of NextStars' first year in Spain.
NextStars, a project created for the development of young English footballers, continues to
welcome more aspiring players to Racing Portuense but in May, the joy was for players going in the
opposite direction.
The Austrian Bundesliga is already underway and during Red Bull Salzburg's match against Rapid
Vienna on Sunday, there was a penalty kick that might not be top in any league this season. In the
79th minute, Rapid Vienna up 2-0, Salzburg were awarded a penalty and Rapid's Stefan Kulovits was
shown a yellow card for a foul in the box.
"What the fuck were you doing?" Arsene Wenger shouted at Robin van Persie as he trudged off the
field, following his second yellow card, soon after the second half kicked off with Arsenal a goal
down against Southampton. It was the end of February and van Persie's sixth ever start in the
league, after usually being kept on the bench late in to the game before replacing Robert Pires or
Freddie Ljungberg.

Manchester United's first home game of the brilliant 2006/2007 season was that 5-1 stuffing of
Fulham. We sold our top scorer, Ruud van Nistelrooy and didn't buy a replacement. We brought in
Michael Carrick as our new number 16 but there weren't many who had him as their first choice to
replace Roy Keane.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will go up against each other again for Uefa's Best Player in
Europe award.
Last year's winner Messi is joined in the final three by Barcelona team-mate Andres Iniesta,
while Real Madrid's Ronaldo makes it two years in a row on the shortlist.
The winner will be announced on 30 August in Monaco on the same day as the Champions League
group stage draw.
In a game that was not beautiful, the US still managed to dominate the play and win. Abby
Wambach scored the loan goal of the game. The North Koreans finished the game a woman down after
second half sub, Choe Mi Gyong was given her second yellow in a five minute span for a harsh tackle
on Lauren Cheney.
In June, the Philadelphia Union sacked their first manager, Peter Nowak, just six months after
he signed a three-year contract extension with the club. Now Nowak is suing the club in federal
court for the remaining three and a half years of unpaid wages left on his contract and severance
pay, which he feels he's owed.
