The Swedish international striker was heavily linked with a move to Anfield whilst the Reds were under the stewardship of Roy Hodgson, who still had connections from his time in Scandinavia.
However, replacement Kenny Dalgish was also thought to be keen on the PSV Eindhoven forward, who impressed Liverpool scouts with his form in the Eredivisie.

What a game! What a colossal group effort! We won and in dramatic fashion against the second ranked team in the world! Where do I start this post?

This is one of those few times in life where it feels so good to be wrong. I tipped 2-1 to the Netherlands before the game started and to be honest after such weak showings against Hungary, San Marino, and Finland I think I was justified in doing so.

Bolton defender Gary Cahill has opened the door to a move to Arsenal in January by stating that his dream remains to play European football. Arsene Wenger was in for the stopper throughout the summer but the clubs couldn't agree a fee.

But there is every chance AW will be back in for the England player and it seems he is ready to leave the Reebok and possibly join the Gunners.

I think the first thing I should say about this game is just a plain and simple wow! I was not for the life of me expecting the performance I witnessed last night. I assumed the game was going to be something like a usual Lagerbäckian qualifier: that is we score a goal just before the half time, hold back and let the other team into the game only to win it late on a superb team effort.
