Whilst Robin van Persie was named Man of the Match for today's 3-2 victory over Southampton, our
striker claims that it is Paul Scholes, who came on for the last half an hour when we were 2-1
down, who was the best player on the pitch.
"Of course everybody worked hard, but I have to say a big thank you to Paul Scholes because
everything started to tick when he came on," Robin said in an interview with Sky Sports.
Ahead of tonight's game against his former club, Chris Smalling has talked of the desperation
the players feels to win the league this season.
"We're both Manchester clubs. That's bragging rights for a whole year. We can't let that
happen!" he said. "They are not used to playing for just one trophy at United.
Wojciech Szczesny has admitted that Arsenal need to improve defensively in the 2012-13 campaign
but is confident about the team's preparations in showing the required improvement.
Manager Arsene Wenger acknowledged that the club's defensive struggles in the pre-season showed
that there is still work that needs to be done.
Here's my belated tupporth on Theo, penned long after the issue's been battered around the
interwebs and beaten into digital submission.
Something's likely to give this summer, one way or the other, because the run-the-contract-down
option is unlikely to come to pass. Hence the stories that we are now seeing – whatever the truth
in them.
Season end approaches and once again the phantom shopping trolleys are being pushed around the
blog world by deluded supporters expecting their clubs to go to market. Well sorry folks, in most
cases it isn't going to happen the coffers are empty; the players have had it on their toes with
the bread and many of them too, are in for a nasty shock.

What an incredibly frustrating week not to be able to blog. Henry's return in the cup against
Leeds, a dour affair until he emerged from the bench, was settled by three sublime touches a
delicious through ball from Song, an immaculate piece of control, and a trademark cool finish to
take the man to 227 goals for Arsenal and send thousands of Gooners into a mad bouncing frenzy.
We are still a few days away from the Leeds game and I don't want to step on what will surely be
another (auto paste here) splendid pre match from the master himself. But without wishing to step
on toes I want to get some thoughts off my chest.
Having spent most of Christmas and New Year struggling to find the back of net I have started to
change my mind about the importance of this game and who should be playing.
Back in July, the Philadelphia Union were linked to Deportivo Saprissa striker Josue Martinez,
and reportedly even made a bid of nearly $1 million for him. MLS Rumors spotted a new report, out
of Norway, that says that the Union are set to bid for the forward again, but this time are the
most likely destination for Martinez with Norwegian club FFK unable to afford a transfer themselves
of between $400-500,000.
LANDOVER, Md. -- U.S. men's national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann sat at the table in the
press conference room at FedEx Field on Saturday night without his usual cheerful smirk. Instead,
he sported a stern look as he prepared to speak to the several dozens of reporters that filled the
room for his postgame talk.
Ahead of last week's end of the season press conference, we posted a piece that looked at all of
the different midfield lineups the Union fielded in 2011 (there were 26 of them). MLSsoccer.com
published a piece yesterday with quotes from Nowak defending his use of so many different lineups
and formations.
Rodgers: The Neverending StoryIn today's installment of the longest-running visa saga in the
16 year history of MLS, the New York Red Bulls reported this afternoon that, after a meeting with
the U.S. Consulate in London, striker Luke Rodgers may be inching closer to securing a work
permit that will allow him to return for a second season with the club.
Couldn't Find the target Nottingham Forest got a 4-0 spanking from East Midlands rivals Leicester
City during last night's FA Cup third round replay. The score was only 1-0 when Forest had this
chance to grab an equaliser. Foxes keeper Kasper Schmeichel generously dropped the ball onto the
toes of Forest striker Robbie Findley just [.

Hart's serious case of the scrunchy toes. Well, not entirely all.
I wouldn't read too much into Robin van Persie being 'coy' about his contract situation at
Arsenal.
He is bound to be after all isn't he?
Robin's next contract, wherever that may be, is going to be the most important one he will sign in
his life. Well, except for his next mobile phone contract I suppose.
Continuing the ongoing series "Plight Of..." I continue to look into those working behind the
scenes in Major League Soccer. Think of all the travel MLS teams are tasked with. Someone must
arrange buses to matches, flights, hotel rooms, meeting room arrangements and do it all while
keeping the players and coach happy.
Looking dapper from his napper to his toes, Cesc Fabregas turned up at the 2012 Brit Awards in
London last night with Nicole ZingerTowerBurger from the Pussycat Dolls on his arm to dole out the
'Best Breakthrough Act' trinket to Ed Sheeran and his hair of pure fire.
With matters outside of football keeping Roman Abramovich busy, it was great to hear that he was at
Cobham to see the players train on Saturday, to see AVB for a chat about things and to attend the
game on Sunday. Roman even popped in to chat with the players for 30 minutes after the 3-3 draw
with United.
Launching his new underwear range for H&M, David Beckham said that his sons' reaction on
glimpsing their dad in his latest unclad ad campaign was: "'Oh my GOD Daddy - not again. They were
like: 'that's really good, but everyone's gonna see you in your pants." The underwear line goes on
sale in 1800 H&M stores around the world on February 2.
We all have our ghosts. For Steve Zakuani, that ghost is memories of his former self.
As the Seattle Sounders midfielder continues his recovery from a horrific leg injury that cost
him the final six months of the 2011 season, the progress he has made is obvious. On Friday,
Zakuani was able to participate in full training for the first time since that April 22 tackle
broke his right leg.
GLENDALE, Ariz. – The U.S. Men's National Team opened the year in dramatic fashion as Ricardo
Clark tallied a game-winning goal seven minutes into second-half stoppage time for a 1-0 win
against Venezuela at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
Inglaterra 1 España 0 by jordixana 1. This is the conclusion where we say that England are now
effectively world and European champions and leave it to you to decide just how tongue-in-cheek
that is. 2. Judging by how long it takes for him to remember the names of players, Fabio Capello
must start naming [.
