The long, long, long dispute between a group of players from Trinidad & Tobago's 2006 World Cup squad and their national football federation reached a new but not yet final phase today when many of the physical assets of the federation were seized by order of the Trinidadian High Court. Trinidad and Tobago has named their training squad in preparations for the Olympic qualifying coming up in March. Sporting KC defender, Daneil Cyrus has been named to the TnT squad that is currently training in Port of Spain in Trinidad. The team is preparing to be in Group B of Olympic qualifying with Honduras, Panama, and Mexico in Los Angeles which begins on March 22nd.

The field is set for the 2012 CONCACAF Under-17 Women's Championship being held in Guatemala in early May after Karla Riley scored her second goal in four days and led Panama to a 2-1 victory over Costa Rica last Saturday to give her country the final berth in the eight-team tournament.
Riley, who scored in each of Panama's four qualifying victories, tallied the winner in the 80th minute to complete a 3-1 aggregate triumph.

CONCACAF announced that it will hold its draw for the Olympic qualifying tournament on Tuesday at the organization's headquarters in New York.

The eight teams in the draw (United States, Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago) will be split into two groups of four, with one group playing its games at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

The Philadelphia Union picked up midfielder Nizar Khalfan in the MLS Waiver Draft after Vancouver Whitecaps FC waived him earlier today.

The Union have waived goalkeeper Thorne Holder and defender Juan Diego Gonzalez.

A native of Tanzania, Khalfan played in 22 Major League Soccer regular season matches with Vancouver, scoring one goal and four assists.

Panama clinched Central America's third and final berth for CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying with a 1-1 draw against Costa Rica. The two met Nov. 3 at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Panama won 3-2 on aggregate after a 2-1 win in the first leg at home in Panama City Oct. 26.

Panama grabbed a 2-1 lead over Costa Rica following the first leg of the Central American playoff for the region's third and last berth in the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying finals. Costa Rica will return home to Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela on Nov. 3 for the second leg.

The Philadelphia Union announced on Monday that Trinidad & Tobago goalkeeper Thorne Holder has been reacquired.

Holder was waived on July 26, presumably to free up an international spot on the Union roster. With the summer transfer window now closed, and the sole Union signing being the American Freddy Adu, Holder returns to the club to re-fill the vacant third goalkeeper role.

The big news from yesterday's announcement by the FIFA Ethics Committee was the life ban to FIFA Executive Committee member Mohammed Bin Hammam, but there were other decisions that affected officials in CONCACAF. CFU members Debbie Minguell and Jason Sylvester, both of Trinidad & Tobago, were banned from participating in all soccer-related activities for one year.

Later today the 2014 World Cup qualifying cycle will start with the preliminary round tie between Montserrat and Belize. St Lucia and Aruba were supposed to get things started a couple of weeks ago, but those matches were pushed back for who knows what reason. Montserrat-Belize could be postponed at the last minute, and there have been rumblings from Belize about a standoff between the national government and the federation that would produce just that, but Montserrat's team is in Trinidad & Tobago and they expect the match to go ahead today.

Trinidad & Tobago books a place in the final eight with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Guatemala in the very difficult Group C. Combined with a scoreless draw against Jamaica on Tuesday, T & T has four points from two games. Jamaica has one point from one game and Guatemala has zero.

The CONCACAF U-17 Championship hosts need a win or a draw against Guatemala on Saturday to secure advancement into the quarterfinals.

Individual and group tickets went on sale yesterday. Buy! Buy! Buy!

On Wednesday we posted an update that linked to a Twitter message from former Trinidad & Tobago goalkeeper Shaka Hilsop that said Thorne Holder had signed with the Union. Big Apple Soccer.com posted a story saying that Holder's former college, Aldelphi University, had announced the signing with a quote from coach Carlo Acquista congratulating Holder.

There is no announcement yet from the Union, but a report on Twitter from Shaka Hislop says that Trinidad & Tobago goalkeeper Thorne Holder has signed with the Union.

Reports from Trinidad confirmed that Holder was on trial with the Union in January. The former U-20 national team goalkeeper played high school soccer at Queen's Royal College in Trinidad & Tobago before going to University of Maryland and Adelphi University.

I had known about the pay dispute between members of Trinidad & Tobago's 2006 World Cup squad and the T&T Football Association, but I was unaware of the ongoing disputes between the FA and national team players and staff. And when there's a dispute with the T&T FA, it's really a dispute with one man, who happens to wear many hats in his country and beyond.
