If English giants and 2005 winners Liverpool lose to Lyon in France on Wednesday night their
Champions League dreams could be all but over. Should Fiorentina beat Hungarian outfit Debrecen
(a very likely occurrence) Liverpool will be six points adrift with just two games left.
It makes for grim reading for the Anfield faithful, with their Premier League title hopes in
tatters the Champions League represents a great chance for them to pick up some silverware and an
exit in the group stages is virtually unthinkable.

Jamie Carragher admits he is 'hurt' by Liverpool's current plight, but has called on his team-mates
not to be too downhearted.
Club stalwart Carragher was sent off on Saturday as a 3-1 defeat at Fulham condemned the Reds to a
sixth loss in seven games in all competitions.
The setback at Craven Cottage has left Liverpool nine points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea
and unlikely to mount a serious title challenge.

With the biggest game probably being at the Artemio Franchi between Fiorentina and
Napoli, Serie A did not present too much interest this weekend. However Sampdoria were hoping that
Inter would drop points to jump above them to the top the table. Juventus needed a change in
fortunes after not winning in four while AC Milan wanted to continue their two
game winning streak against Chievo.

What will that victory do for confidence at Anfield?Liverpool desperately needed that win yesterday. They had gone into the game on the back of four
successive defeats, which is almost unheard of at Anfield. You had to go back to 1987 for the last
time that had happened and go back to 1953 for the last time they had lost five games on the spin.

It was a statement game.
The Premier League has long been a test of consistency more than quality. Â A feature of the
last season-plus has been Liverpool's success against Manchester United, Chelsea, and, to a lesser
extent, Arsenal. Â Sunday's 2-0 Anfield win was the third consecutive against the champions in the
league.

Former England manager Terry Venables has claimed Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez could lose his job
if his side taste defeat to Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
Having lost four games in a row, their worst record for 22 years, the Reds are under huge pressure
to get a result in Sunday's clash against their arch-rivals in order to get their season back on
track.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that Liverpool's title challenge will not be ended should
Manchester United inflict a further defeat upon them this weekend.
Rafael Benitez's Reds have already been defeated four times in the Premier League this season,
twice as many as last year in the same competition.

The postal strikes, the controversial leader of the BNP Nick Griffin and even pesky little
Beach Ball's are things that we have heard of a lot this week in the papers (though in this
article, we won't mention anymore about the postal strikes or politics). The word 'beach ball' for
many football fans, especially Manchester United fans, would never be thought of in the same way
ever again.

It may still only be October but should Liverpool lose to Manchester United on Sunday their
title challenge will effectively be over. They've already lost four times in the league this
season and boss Rafael Benitez's woes continued in midweek when French outfit Lyon pulled off a
surprise 2-1 victory at Anfield.

Yesterday, I posted a list of eleven reasons why I believe Liverpool have struggled this season.
Today, it's time to look to forward positively and come up with a way out of the current mess. Yes,
things are bleak, but I do not think that the season is over. In fact, I actually think Liverpool
can still put in a title challenge, but only if certain changes are made and previous mistakes are
not repeated.

Clint Dempsey has a knack of breaking Liverpool hearts. The last time the
Reds lost at Craven Cottage, in May 2007, the American striker scored the winning
goal in the 1-0 victory that all but ended Liverpool's title challenge. Will
Dempsey's recent goal at the Cottage, sending Rafa's men to their fifth
loss in 11 matches, prove as pivotal in the title race this time around?

Carlo's ‘cross' with the defence. What do Abdoulaye Faye, Titus
Bramble, James Collins, and Richad Dunne have in common? They've all scored
against Chelsea from crosses into the box. Totaling half of Chelsea's goals
conceded for the season, 8 in 8 matches, Carlo Ancelotti must address his teams
crossing deficiency before their title challenge resumes against high-flying, Lancashire derby
winners, Blackburn.

Oh God! I am beginning to get a sense of history repeating itself at Anfield.
Remember back in 2002 when we finished in the League to Arsenal, they finished on 87 points while
we gained 80 points well ahead of the chasing pack, but no title.
We were all expecting the team that time to push on the next season and win the League, having come
so close but it didn't happen.

Are there more nerve-jangling games than against Liverpool? Whether the tightly-contested,
tactical games of the Mourinho era or the goal-fests under Hiddink, games against Liverpool in the
last few years have had that little something extra. Before heading to the game yesterday, I was
surprised to learn however that not only have Liverpool failed to score at Stamford Bridge in the
league over the last five years (aside from last year's winner, an own goal), Chelsea hadn't
managed a win over the reds at home in three years.

Wolves fans are gutted. Prior to this weekend's fixtures, Portsmouth

This has to be the most eagerly anticipated derby in years, nay decades. Well certainly in my

surely seen United supporters with even the deepest of hatred towards our city neighbours at least
acknowledge that they have, thus far, looked impressive.

Another season of Champions League football has started with a bang even though we failed to see
any major surprises. Barcelona showed they would again be the team to beat after outclassing Inter,
whereas the debutants did fairly well even though Wolfsburg and APOEL were the only
newcomers to win some points in the opening round and the Cypriots' goalless draw at
Vicente Calderon is probably the biggest shock of the round.
