Champions/Europa League Matchday 3: It Takes Two

The Offside: Bundesliga 22 October @ 06:03 PM EST

2 Blackouts. Stuttgart continued to show signs of life in their game against Sevilla and they continued to produce stupid defensive lapses, which continually cost them the games. Two such mistakes, coupled with the referee missing an offside position helped Sevilla to a comfortable 3-1 victory.

Bundesbag Week 9: Werder emerge from the pack

Some People are On The Pitch 20 October @ 12:19 PM EST
I think the jury is still out on Bayer Leverkusen as title contenders. So far this season Jupp Heynckes team have beaten Hoffenheim, Freiburg, Bochum, Wolfsburg, Koln and Nurnberg. Of those six results, only two were against teams from the top half of the table. More pertinently, when they have played fellow contenders Bayer have come up short. Click to continue reading...

The Numbers Game: Matchday 9

The Offside: Bundesliga 19 October @ 03:10 AM EST

It wasn't a good weekend for exciting football. It was a good weekend for exciting numbers. Or rather, a good weekend for those who can find numbers exciting.

619. Tim Wiese has kept a clean sheet for 619 minutes and counting. Remember, he did so while playing for Werder Bremen.

Fünf gute Gründe warum Hans-Jörg Butt Nationaltorwart sein sollte

Doktor Fussball 06 October @ 03:15 AM EST

Bundesliga Splashes

bundesliga blogger 21 May @ 11:39 AM EST

A bitter loss for Werder Bremen in the UEFA-Cup final yesterday, as they were defeated 2-1 by Schachtjor Donezk in extra-time. Without players like Diego, Per Mertesacker or Hugo Almeida, Bremen hoped to get through the extra 30minutes and into the penalty shoot-up while having with Tim Wiese an excellent goalkeeper between the posts.

The Year of 1 B.E.L.

The Run of Play - Soccer in Style 21 May @ 09:54 AM EST

Why, yes, I did watch the UEFA Cup final last night, and what a smart little encounter it was. The game was so good, in fact, that for long stretches I forgot to think of it as a referendum on the entire concept of an alternative tournament to the Champions League, and, heretically, enjoyed it as merely a football match.

Shakhtar Win UEFA Cup

Futbolita 21 May @ 01:30 AM EST

An uninspired Werder Bremen lost the UEFA Cup to Shakhtar Donetsk last night, after a 2-1 loss in extra time. All three goals were courtesy of Brazilian players. Everyone wants Dopey Dunga to sit up and take notice!

Luiz Adriano opened the scoring in the 25th minute for the Ukrainian side.

The Set: UEFA Cup Final

Bundesliga Talk 20 May @ 11:45 PM EST

For us fans of German football it was a sad night, but for us football fans, it wasn't. The Ukraine won their first European title with a team that earned it's victory. And they were an attractive team to watch with Srna, Luiz Adriano, the Rat and Ilsinho making the core of a very entertaining side.

Shakhtar claims final UEFA Cup

No Short Corners 20 May @ 04:21 PM EST
Shakhtar Donetsk became the first Ukrainian club (and third from the former Soviet bloc inside five years) to raise the UEFA Cup with a 2-1 extra time victory over Werder Bremen. After the teams traded keeper gaffes for a 1-1 result through 90 minutes, Jadson's early overtime roller served as both Bremen netminder Tim Wiese's second blunder of the night and the winning goal. Finals Taking Shape All Around Europe

Soccer City FC 28 April @ 05:57 PM EST
May is the dawning of the much-heralded ‘business end to the season', the fitting climax to the sweat, tears and bloodshed which have been sacrificed to guarantee a euphoric finale. It is the curtain-fall that differentiates the genuine victors from the once-threatening aspirants and creates an opportunity to watch mesmerising history unfold in front of our very own eyes. Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen will be carrying out the final of the national cup (DFB-Pokal) in Berlin, May 30th.

Leverkusen defeated Mainz 05 from the 2.Bundesliga 4-1 after extra-time already on Tuesday. A noticeable story from that game is Angelo Charisteas' scoring/acting performance.

…und plötzlich bist du der Held

Bundesliga Blog 23 April @ 07:21 AM EST

Doktor Fussball 29 October @ 02:51 AM EST
Click to continue reading...
