back to the Rossoneri in January. David said this about his return to AC Milan.
"I had to give myself the best chance to play in the World Cup, playing on loan with
Milan will help me do that.

Supposedly he'll be back in mid-July 2010, after the World Cup concludes.
He'll join Milan Dec. 28 after the Galaxy's post-season tour and remain with the Italian club
through the end of their season in May.
"After the wonderful experience of last season we are very happy to see David Beckham
again wearing the red and black colors," said Adriano Galliani, Vice President and CEO of AC

It has been quite a full day for some, others are left catching up on all the twitter messages
that were lost today. There are plenty of good links to discuss so let's not waste any more time
with the formalities.
First up is the lovely discussion that will be on going for the next 20 or 30 years with Major
League Soccer.

Don Garber will address the "Leaders in Football" conference
Over the next two days, many of soccer's most influential executives from around the world will
meet in London, England for the annual "Leaders in Football" conference. Included in that group are
three representatives from the United States: Don Garber, MLS Commissioner and CEO; Sunil Gulati,
USSF President; and Tim Leiweke, President and CEO of AEG.

Failure is almost always a more interesting subject for a book than success. Grant Wahl did not
originally intend to spend 16 months following the dramatic disaster that was the David Beckham
Experiment in America: but when Beckham's celebrated arrival as the saviour of American soccer
degenerated into a farce of injuries and infighting at the Galaxy, the juicy tale of how the
biggest investment in American soccer history resulted in one of the worst team meltdowns ever in
MLS became the story he had to follow all the way through.

I enjoyed it, and I suspect any hardcore MLS fan would as well. All the biggest revelations have
already been publicized, but there's plenty of interesting anecdotes and many details about the LA
Galaxy power players. Those details are the reason to read this book (such as how Alexi Lalas
vetoed a proposed Peter Vagenas for Kyle Beckerman trade), as everyone who follows American soccer
already knows how the story goes.

Ruud Gullit clearly didn't get it.
An advance copy of Grant Wahl's much talked about hardback landed in the MLSR mailbox today from
publisher Crown Publishers. And we are currently pouring through it for over looked bits of juice
and hilarity.
All week on MLSR we will post an interesting but perhaps overlooked excerpt of the book each day.

David Beckham.
He returns to the U.S. on July 11 and his MLS debut will be five days later in New York. He caught
up with the lads at MLSnet.com and filled 'em in on his goings on.
"I'm committed to being one, an ambassador for the MLS and soccer in America, because I
still believe that in 10, 15 years that this game will lift to the level where it can compete with
some of the big teams in Europe and some of the big leagues in Europe," the midfielder said in an
interview with MLSnet.

Every once in awhile I get a google alert in my inbox that is so surreal I have to check the
date to be sure it's not April 1.
This was one of those alerts.
Apparently Galaxy CEO Tim Leiweke will be speaking at the "Leaders in Football"
Conference?
Yeah, seriously.

Really Stupid Commentary, Part ISo because I'm apparently completely inept with a computer - I keep telling everyone, but they
don't believe me - I spent the day unable to log on to BigSoccer.
So instead, in between dealing with the contractor who showed up at the house 1) with an incredibly
hot mid-20's female "helper" in the tightest pants I've ever seen in my life and 2) stinking of
booze, I looked at some other soccer websites.

Tim Leiweke, the mastermind behind the Designated Player rule, is lobbying for Major League Soccer
to change its rulebook once again in the offseason, this time to allow DP signings to be exempt
from the league's salary cap altogether.
Leiweke, the president and CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group, says that by making a designated
player signing count for $400,000 against a salary cap of just over $2 million, owners are being
penalized for taking a big risk.

Bruce Arena is a tired retread who ran out of ideas ages ago. Bruce Arena is just the tonic the LA
Galaxy needs to salvage its disastrous two and a half year run, during which it has managed to miss
the play-offs in each year. Or both, depending upon whom you ask. Tim Leiweke, the President and

I always like to read columnists' opinions on soccer, well, columnists who can take an objective
look at a game or a hiring or a move or whatever without having to drop in a "soccer
sucks" reference.
Anyway, I always enjoy reading colleague Jim Alexander whenever he has the chance to chime in on
Chivas USA and/or the Galaxy.

What can I say, I'm not a fan of Bruce Arena. He did well with the US of course but he certainly is
not the mastermind many made him out to be.
Here's my PE column that I wrote about Arena's supposed grandiose tenure with the US national
team.
I guess I tried to counter some of what Tim Leiweke said about Arena, that the was the best coach
in this country or something to the effect.

Looking to turn around their 2008 season, the Los Angeles Galaxy have turned to former U.S. Men's

It looks as if last night's 2-2 draw with Chivas USA will be the only game that Cobi Jones gets to
be the head coach of the Los Angeles Galaxy. It has been confirmed by several sources that former
U.S. Men's National Team coach Bruce Arena will take over the reins of the club, and should be on
the sidelines for the Galaxy's next game, this coming Thursday against the Chicago Fire.

It was a crazy night at Home Depot Center. Between an early goal, a rally, en elbow and subsequent
broken jaw and a stoppage-time equalizer, the game had a little of everything.
Of course, the on-the-field action wasn't the only thing that made the night a crazy one.
First, celebrity chef Ingrid Hoffmann was there.

Now that it is The Day After, I have a few thoughts on what just happened.
Alexi Lalas' firing was at least a year too late and was a laughably inept hire
in the first place. Lalas was good at many things, like being a salesman extraordinaire, doing
color commentary, creating funny ESPN Sportscenter promotional spots, even defending for the US
MNT.
