Barcelona have announced that striker David Villa has underwent successful surgery, on his
broken left leg on Monday and doctors said it would take him four to five months to recover. Quick
question on that. Has any club every announced unsuccessful surgery?
"The surgery went fantastically well," Barca doctor Ricard Pruna said.
Spain and Barcelona striker David Villa's season has come to a premature end after fracturing
his Tibia in his side's 4-0 win over Al Saad in the FIFA World Club Championships yesterday.
The striker will now be out for 5 months and fears are starting to emerge in the Spanish
national side as to whether the 30 year old will recover in time for the Euro 2012 tournament.
Barcelona have suffered a huge blow on the injury front as striker David Villa fractured his tibia
in their 4-0 World Club Cup semi-final win against Al Sadd. After being dropped to the bench for
Saturday's 3-1 El Clasico victory against Real Madrid, Villa started alongside Lionel Messi and
Pedro in a three-man attack against [.
It is a tournament that receives much criticism given its awkward timing and relative unimportance,
but I guess the World Club Championship has lost a whole heap more supporters following Barcelona's
game with Al-Sadd.
Not that is was anything to do with Barca's Qatari opponents, who worked diligently to try and
contain the European Champions.
David Villa fractured his left tibia shortly before half-time in the Fifa Club World Cup
semi-final against Al Sadd in Yokohama, Japan today.
Villa, who had been linked with a move to away from the Nou Camp in January, was carried off on
a stretcher after appearing to land awkwardly 39 minutes into a game Barcelona were winning
1-0.

Horrible news out of Japan this morning where FC Barcelona defeated Al-Sadd 0-4 in the Club
World Cup semi-final and will move on to play Santos in the final.
In the 36th minute of the first half David Villa was injured running down a through ball and
when he tried to control the pass twisted is left leg and fell to the ground.
Not the sight we would have wanted to greet you with on this fine footballing day. Sigh. Image: AP

For those of you who haven't heard, David Villa fractured his tibia this morning in Barcelona's
FIFA Club World Cup game vs. Al-Sadd. Early reports state the striker will probably be out of the
game for six months.

Barcelona have just whupped Al Sadd 4-0 in the second Club World Cup semi-final in Yokohama
(Adriano, Adriano, Keita and Maxwell if you're interested we'll try and track down some highlights
later), but the Japanese jolly has been soured somewhat by a nasty injury to David Villa, who split
his tibia in twain five minutes before half-time.
COLOMBIA vs BOLIVIA
So now that we're in our first MLS weekend post-Zakuani (that crack still haunts my dreams), people
are going all crazy on us. Seattle fans are leading the charge. MLS is joining in. I'm not going to
say a little anger isn't justified because, well, it looks here like Brian Mullan literally punched
his boot clean through poor Stevie's tibia.
The Seattle Sounders will hand out No. 11 placards prior to Saturday's game against Toronto FC
and are asking fans to hold them up at the 11:00 mark as a tribute to Steve Zakuani, who had his
leg broken by a Brian Mullan tackle during Friday's game. The idea for the tribute seems to have
risen organically as Sounders fans started pushing the plan on Twitter, which eventually got the
ear of part owner Drew Carey.
The Seattle Sounders might have defeated defending MLS Cup Champions, Colorado Rapids, in Commerce
City, Colorado last night, but it's clear the victory feels somewhat hollow to the Sounders and
their fans since one of their young stars, Steve Zakuani, will most likely be out the rest of the
season after breaking his fibula and tibia.
Steve Zakuani is going to miss next week's game after suffering an absolutely horrific break of
his fibula and tibia following a stupid and reckless tackle by Brian Mullan. Zakuani is going to
miss the match after that. In all likelihood, he's going to miss a bunch more after that too. Right
now, it seems callous to even talk about the result, a not-entirely-insignificant 1-0 win over the
Colorado Rapids.
I have a feeling that El Hadji Diouf has never read the book How To Win Friends And
Influence People. If he had, perhaps the Blackburn striker wouldn't have behaved the way he
did during Saturday's FA Cup game against Queens Park Rangers (QPR) where he stood over QPR's Jamie
Mackie, who had just broken his leg in a tackle, and allegedly said "F*** u and f*** your leg.
Ireland and Leicester left-back Greg Cunningham, on loan from Manchester City, suffered a broken
leg after in his side's 1-0 victory over Hull City this Saturday.
Galway born Cunningham suffered the break as a result of Liam Rosenior's late tackle on 62 minutes,
which earnt him a red card.
