Right, big game today and all that. Man City. I remember when they used to be just fields. The
other team in Manchester who everyone kind of had a soft spot (sort of) for because they were
United's poor relation. Not just the poor relation though. They were the keen, eager yet drooling
relation with a club foot and a cleft palate who really wanted to join the kickabout and nobody had
the heart to refuse.
The draw for 2012 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying is set for Tuesday, and one of the players who
could be starring for Mexico during qualifying is Carlos Vela, the perpetually on-loan Arsenal
forward who is currently at Real Sociedad. His late equalizer Sunday against Malaga was a thing of
beauty. Enjoy:
Liverpool's record at Stamford Bridge has been atrocious over the years, and prior to last season's
double, the club had won there only twice in 19 years. The curse seems to be over now though as
Liverpool beat Chelsea for the third time in a row earlier today, and moved into joint 4th position
in the league.

An expertly clipped free-kick to give the Russians the win.
Sammy Ameobi's goal in extra time at Scunthorpe United was a thing of beauty to behold. Sammy
Ameobi - the lad with the electric feet The local lad with the electric feet, got the ball on the
left wing, and jinxed his way forward, with four players marking him, and of course using his left
foot [...

Celtic's Paddy McCourt was handed his first full competitive start for Nigel Worthington's Norn
Iron at Windsor Park last night, and went on to bag a brace in a 4-0 win over the Faroe
Islands.
The winger's second goal (the last goal of the night) was a thing of beauty, with McCourt
cutting in from the wing, tacking between a pair of listless defenders before hooking a perfect lob
over the Faroes 'keeper - all in a night's work for 'The Derry Pele'.
As many of you know Portland lost to West Bromich Albion 3-2 on Wednesday night. I was going to
try and put up a recap but didn't have my computer at the game and came home to a very sick little
boy and stayed up way too late last night. So I am just going to voice some thoughts and
observations from the game.
It is already the most popular sport in every country other than the US, therefore, it will
eventually have to catch on here in the US. Soccer is the most played, the most watched, and the
most highly paid and popular sport in every country outside the US. With players coming into
American leagues from outside countries and continents, such as: Europe, Brasil, Argentina,
Germany, and the bigger soccer playing nations, the game is becoming more exciting here in the
US.

More action from the Womens' World Cup now, in which Frankfurt forward Kerstin Garefrekes shonks
a nailed-on sitter up, up and over das crossbar during Germany's opening group tie victory over
Canada...
Das...war complete and utter scheiße.
ARTICLE TWO.

I might be the only one here but I "love" the Italian way of football i.e. – the catenaccio,
over the brazilian samba. It's a thing of beauty. They play to their strength (great defenders,
average attackers) and remind me so much of Muhammad Ali doing his rope-a-dope.
Opening night! I have to admit, it feels so good to be back in the thick of things. Speaking
of the thick of things...plan on tuning in here every week for a little thing I like to call "Match
Musings". Basically it's just me, spouting off my armchair quarterback (or perhaps linking
midfielder if you prefer) noise about the previous night's match.
We wanted a response to last weekend and we got it. A 2-0 win, which really would have been more
but for the Wolves keeper, and a controlled, disciplined, creative performance.
The team was as expected, the manager prioritising the league above all else, and rightly so.
The players knew that United had won so nothing less than three points would do.

A result to put a smile back on our faces, a Nasri inspired Arsenal waltzed past a doggedly
determined Leeds side to halt the slide against Championship opposition.
The game kicked off with some tough challenges signalling a hard fought encounter but we soon
got our passing game going, Arshavin and Chamakh combining nicely before the latter dummied the
return of a one/two letting a besnooded Nasri slip through the centre of defence and bury the ball
in the 5th minute.
