Miazga, Green ring Sunday bells

A pair of US internationals working overseas lit the lamp in victories on Sunday, with Matt Miazga heroically crashing home Vitesse's 87th minute winner against ADO Den Haag. Across the border in Germany's second flight, we had a happy Julian Green sighting. Back in the line-up after recovering from a muscle injury that kept him out for over a month, the youngster did some nifty work to

It's time to take a short break from the Clipboard for an update to this old post from Jacob Klinger. Obviously, there have been plenty of additions to our table of the clubs that have fielded the most Americans. But I've also made a few alterations: 1) no more prospects listed, a guy has to have played at least one first team match to count, 2) a few clubs way, way down the league pyramid have

Maars Rover?

To follow up on last week's Björn Maars Johnsen post, that MLS interest is in competition with enduring suitors from all the places I outed in the fall (2.Bundesliga, the Netherlands, Greece, Russia), plus some in France and Turkey. I'm getting closer to pinpointing a few club names, but once the Bulgarian FA announced the fate of Litex Lovech, his move could happen quickly.

High praise, indeed.

I am sure most of you are well aware of how I view Edwin van der Sar (or at least are shrewd enough to piece it together). Well... here is what Edwin van der Sar thinks of Ethan Horvath. And in case you missed it on Thursday night, here is why. And here is a Vine example of how Edwin van der Sar came to this opinion.

You know I always like to share when I do a numbers running bit over at MLSS. This one from yesterday is the start of a series I'll do that homes in on an individual Americans Abroad player situation and wraps it in ooey gooey stat-ty goodness (which is similar to caramel). In this bit, I ponder the production to expect from FC Utrecht rookie standout Rubio Rubin in his second go-around against a

This tweet is concerning US Under-14 skipper/right back John Hilton. Beat the rush and start imagining the possibilities now; the last American to go the Ajax way at a tender age was just some guy named John O'Brien. @unionprospects Netherlands. Growing Payne

I have been informed that Groningen right back Desevio Payne has signed a fresh multi-year contract with the club and that it will be officially announced in about an hour. The US Under-20 international is currently slated to begin preseason training with the reserves in early July, but I doubt that team designation holds for too long.

I have yet to find a video, but trust me, the Aron of Bacon™ dialed loooong distance to hit the 88th minute decider in a 3-2 win over NAC Breda. You'll see soon enough. The AFAS-Stadion Killer™ scored for the 24th time in 35 home games for the Cheese Farmers to keep their hopes of snatching the automatic Europa League berth that comes with third place out from under F-Word well and truly alive.

Just happy little pigs in slop are we.

I am referring, of course, to how us Americans get giddy rolling around in sports stats. What follows (to a large extent) are the top six in various stat categories among Americans Abroad. I parenthetically say large extent because there are a few holes in the count. I was unable to come up with the three defensive categories at the bottom for 2.

It is not so much to look at, but here is FC Utrecht rookie Rubio Rubin's late consolation from last night's 4-3 home loss to NAC. It was his third of the season. Ya know, Earnie Stewart only scored two goals in his first Eredivisie season... just sayin'. - Greg Seltzer

Read it with a Euro-J sound. As in Aron Jóhannsson has just put AZ on the board at FC Utrecht. The hosts are now up 3-1 near the hour, so we shall see if this strike means much in the end. UPDATE: Dunno what to tell ya about that music. Or the 6-2 AZ loss that gave Utrecht their first season sweep of the Cheese Farmers in over 20 years (still researching the exact date).

I will keep this relatively brief, lest I fall into a manhole in trench coat. It has taken Aron Jóhannsson just four matches and change to top our Americans Abroad goal chart in the right column. In the 25th minute, he redirected a near-post cross home to give AZ a 1-0 lead over guests Go Ahead Eagles. Still all kinds of time for more in this one.Clip (of at least one goal) here soon enough, I'm sure.

No, I am not suggesting that Mikkel Diskerud is a pyromaniac. Or even that he loves old school Def Leppard. I am back. Last week was quite demanding in terms of work, travel, dance and varioous real life shenanigans (I even was struck on my bike by a douchebag on a scooter... YAY!). So I temporarily flaked. Because I can. But enough of that jibber-jabber, let us get to the first pro goal of FC Utrecht playmaker Rubio Rubin.

Prognosis Negative

For a little longer, anyway. Some folks thought Aron Jóhannsson could return to AZ action this weekend after his reserve comeback on Monday, but I can tell you he is not on the submitted team sheet for their match against Groningen. As the club noted, he will likely have another one or two appearances with Jong AZ before getting back into the Eredivisie swing.

I have a morsel of a possible goodie for you. Not sure where this murmur originated, but I can confirm that sudden Ameri-philes FC Utrecht have made contact over apparent Stoke City outcast Brek Shea. The Recovery Ward

No Short Corners at related • 0 views
Do not be stunned or overly dismayed if news of American accomplishments in club ball overseas is slow to flow this season. As you can see, at the moment, various injuries (and the resulting recovery periods) have us one keeper away from a rather workable European-based USMNT program line-up with scary attack subs.

So, I have done some digging around here here and there. It turns out the Stoke Sentinel article about Geoff Cameron interest was largely headed in the right direction, if not fully comprehensive/up to date. Let's begin in Germany. Classic Commentary Clanger: Peter Drury Prematurely Roars THE NETHERLANDS Into 2014 World Cup Final (Video)

Who Ate All the Pies at related • 0 views

With his premeditated prose and propensity for meretriciousverbiage, Peter Drury is a commentator who tends to split opinion.

Some regard him as a footballing poet of sorts. Others think he's just a bit of a simpering gas bag.

Drury: Poet or gas bag?

Regardless, Drury is responsible for one of Pies' favourite commentary clangers of recent years, specifically the wonderful ricket he dropped while chuntering away over the 2014 World Cup semi-final between Argentina and the Netherlands.

Recap: The Netherlands 3–4 USMNT

On an historic night in Amsterdam, in a game in which both teams could have scored five or six or more goals—and combined for five goals in the second half—the US beat the Netherlands for the first time ever, 4–3.

Just a few quick shared observations from the hour and change of USMNT training I have been able to see this week. If what I've seen holds up, expect (right to left) Chandler, Alvarado, Brooks and Shea starting along the back line against the Netherlands. Those wide backs best get buckled in now, they are going to be put to work by Oranje.

While this Klinsmann team is never out of a game (see: Belgium), it's hard to claim the US matches up well with the Dutch, especially without players like Altidore and Dempsey (and perhaps Bedoya most of all).

The first thing one notices is Klinsi will need to conjure some magic with a shorthanded attack stable. A cursory flick back through the archives has shown that the Netherlands have never really suffered with a duff kit.

Sure, there have been some slightly drab incarnationsof the famous Oranje over the years, butthe Dutch have never actually endured what you might call a 'bad' strip.

Till now, that is.
