The media reports are heating up that Mo Johnston, fresh of his Scottish Football Hall of Fame
induction (insert joke here), will announce the signing of Preki (
scientific name: Predrag
Radosavljevic) as TFC's new manager. Sources are saying that negotiations are well under way
and that an official announcement could come as early as Thursday.

Rumours abound that Coach Preki, having been let go by Chivas USA, is possibly heading to Toronto
as coach of TFC. He has the MLS experience that Mo says he needs in his next coach.

Toronto FC has tried and failed for three straight years to make the playoffs, so finding a
coach capable of getting the club over that hurdle was vital this winter. TFC has found just such a
coach in one of the most sought-after coaching prospects in American soccer.

It seemed astonishing when Mo Johnston recently claimed to be shocked by the level of criticism
that he was receiving after TFC's recent failure. Was the wily Glaswegian watching the same team
the supporters were? Why the shock on Mo's part?
It should be no surprise however when you look at the acceptance of mediocrity that comes from
places higher in the organization.

According to Behind The Badge, D.C. United coach Tom Soehn "has removed his name from consideration
for the club's head coaching position". The short-shorts enthusiast joins TFC's Chris Cummins as
the first occupants of the 2009 off-season coaching carousel; perhaps if they sit close enough
together they can share some reading materials amongst one another.

Moving as I do mostly through non-footballing circles, I've been asked, "hey, what's the deal with
Toronto FC? Did they make the playoffs? I heard they lost something like 10 nothing to some nobody
team in the states."
These post-mortems can get boring, so let me just throw down my two-cents on this club as I see it
so we can all move on.

It's all gone pear shaped north of the border. And I mean, totally. Toronto FC is melting down.
Montreal and Vancouver have been kicked out of USL. Bloggers are furiously trying to find the USL
teams a home and curb stomp TFC management.
Richard Whittall has coped with the crisis by succumbing to complete, barking madness:
This might put me on the business end of a very detailed flaming post, but why doesn't
MLS consider a radical move: a wholesale ideological change in direction away from purchasing
"ready-made" talent, either overseas or within the league, and toward investment in superb
managerial and coaching staff?

So, there, Cummins is gone. Duane Rollins thinks his leaving won't account for much, following his
convincing argument the other day for Trader Mo's dismissal as sporting director.
Fine Cummins out, so can we stop the ex-lower level Luton/Newcastle parade now? These are the last
of clubs in a long line of Graham Taylor-Watford-Wimbledon eighties style Charles Reep football,
and follows a "we need this part to fit in this cog" line of thinking to work properly—you have
to have two centerbacks and they both have to be big, you need a poacher near goal with a runner in
behind him, and you need a classic lined up midfield to grease that 4-4-2.

Alrighty ladies and gents, while some may be writing about postseason plans with passionate
pride, I will be doing my darndest to keep things interesting around here till March of 2010. And
when a team isn't in the playoffs (holla TFC, and San Jose!), the front office has to do the
same.
It is in that vane that the Red Bulls announced their awards for team MVP, Defender of the Year,
Newcomer of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Fan of the Year.

When you looked up at the sky, and the puddles all over the floor, there was a certain irony in
it all; as if even the God's were crying over the 2009 season. And what weather could be more
fitting for a Stadium that caused nothing but tears for the past 14 years? Surely, with a hungry
and desperate TFC at the gates, tonight would end like so many others; a tearful mess of a
loss.

"Sing when you're winning" - RSL = 40ptsAfter having to swallow a 5-0 debacle in New York, one thing was clear - any team other than
Toronto FC had to make the playoffs tonight. There was that brief moment where it was still
possible that the Reds, that unbalanced, built-on-the cheap by Mo Johnston squad could still make
the playoffs despite the club's horrifying display and completely mediocre season.

This is torture. The only positive I can dredge up right now is that TFC is getting shots. I guess
the half time pep talk is simple. If Red Bulls can score 2 in a half, Toronto can score 3.

Colorado is in with:
- a win
- a draw and only one of DC, FCD, NE, and TFC winning
- a loss by 1, FCD draws or loses, and 2 of DC, NE, and TFC losing
- a loss by 2, FCD draws or loses, and DC, NE, and TFC losing
They also get in by finishing top 2 in the following tiebreakers (with the teams from the
FCD/DC/NE/TFC group not involved losing)
- Colorado-DC-FSL
- Colorado-NE-FSL
- Colorado-DC-FSL-NE
- Colorado-Dallas-DC-FSL
- Colorado-Dallas-DC-FSL-TFC
Or losing to FSL by only 1 goal gets them in through this tiebreaker:

Ok, in an effort to pump up the Seattle Sounders just enough for them to beat FC Dallas this
weekend which would effectively seal Toronto's place in the playoffs (provided Toronto wins too of
course), here is a quick clip for the Seattle Sounders fans. Laurie at the Sounders Offside, I'm
looking at you here:
Ok, it's not so much a sacrifice to the football deities, as it is clip of a football deity (in
Seattle), but hey, it's appearing on a Toronto FC page, so that's the best I can do.

I'm not going to lie, I've given up on trying to figure out how the different scenarios for this
weekend's matches need to play out for Toronto to make the playoffs. The numbers are too much for
me, so I'm going to just sit back and hope for a TFC win against New York and everyone else to
lose. I guess that's not entirely possible, but at least we know that if Toronto wins, they have a
much better chance of making it in than if they lose!

Just because you
can do something, doesn't necessarily make it the best option. As Toronto
FC head into their last gasp attempt at making this year's playoffs, that conundrum does indeed
rise. The enigma that is this season's Reds are quite frankly lucky to even have the chance to
qualify for the post-season but that is the reality of MLS parity.

The MLS regular season is about to end but the TFC Media League is still going strong. Since the
news doesn't end when the season does, the Graham Legatt Trophy won't be decided until the end of
2009. The Fan 590 was a hot mover this round, despite Bob McCown's best efforts, but it's still The
Toronto Star and The Toronto Sun battling it out on the top of the table.

2. Overall goal difference
3. Overall goals scored

The Major League Soccer season is down to its final matches and the playoff picture is extremely
close. Several teams who needed to win on Saturday to remain in contention did so including Toronto

Well, TFC did their part correctly this week with a 1-0 victory over Real Salt Lake at BMO
field. That bumps us into 8th place in the playoffs until we find out the rest of the results for
the weekend.
This was the final home game of the season, and the Toronto fans gave a nice sending off to fan
favorite Danny Dichio before the match with a huge "Thank You" banner across the south end of the
stadium.

If everything goes as expected in the next two weeks, Toronto FC players will be packing their bags

left was a look ahead to 2010.

I will become a very short-lived New York Red Bulls fan if they can beat Real Salt Lake tonight

After the all too predictable failure of Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon, the supporter's, and
media's, axe was immediately and forcefully swung at interim manager Chris Cummins' head. It is
hard to argue that anger, what with the technical shortcomings of TFC in the San Jose match and in
many previous matches this season, but how much of the blame can lay solely at Cummins' feet?

Everyone's had their two cents on TFC's woes this season, but the 24thminute makes things nice and
stark for us: the last fifteen minutes of games are a death trap for this club. Chris Cummins
wildly complained that his players dropped back in the final minutes against San Jose on Saturday
against his wishes, presumably hoping to absorb as much attacking pressure from their opponents as
possible.

Toronto FC broke out the pink jerseys to support breast cancer research this weekend against San
Jose Earthquakes. This one ended in a 1-1 draw, and was mainly a good outing for TFC except for
their usual nemesis the last 15 minutes. To be fair, this time it was only the last 2 minutes that
were the problem (San Jose scored the equalizer in the 92nd minute).

With this being Toronto FC's first realistic challenge at the bottom of the MLS playoff picture,
Toronto fans are experiencing the frustrating yet forgiving parity that comes with this league.

The City of Toronto are all high on grass after approving MLSE's proposal to install a new

Via BigSoccer, Tom Anselmi touched on the growth prospects of MLS in a radio interview. Of interest
to my salary cap readers, he's pretty happy with the current level of play in MLS, and he sees it
rising slowly over the course of 10-15 years, although not to a Top 3 level. He also talked about
needing to continue to control costs.
