View From The Couch 25 September @ 11:48 AM EST
The Rapids have just announced that Jacob Peterson and Jamie Smith will join Colin Clark on the season-ending injury list. Peterson tore his ACL in a collision in Wednesday's San Jose game. Smith injured his knee against Houston on August 30th, and after having surgery to repair it has reportedly developed a blood clot. Click to continue reading...

Second Verse, Same As The First

View From The Couch 11 September @ 10:05 PM EST
Last week the Rapids faced Toronto. This week the Rapids face Toronto. Next week the Rapids will face San Jose, the week after the Rapids will face San Jose. If this seems familiar its because the USOC games earlier in the season had us play LA back-to-back, then Seattle back-to-back. This time the Rapids are in the Great White North to try to keep their roll going. Click to continue reading...

Midseason Review

View From The Couch 02 September @ 07:41 PM EST
We're coming around the final turn of the season, 75% complete. Time for a final mid-season review.
Goalkeeping: Things haven't changed much in goal from the midway point. Pickens has been solid but not spectacular, Burpo's a capable backup, and Ceus took the Charlotte Eagles to the USL-2 championship before losing in the final. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Looking For More Bodies as Absences Rise

We want Rapidman 02 September @ 11:13 AM EST
Gary Smith is a very patient and a very open and friendly guy who also has the ruthlessness in him that is needed to succeed in professional sport. He has shown that time and again in molding this team how he wants it. Witness the controversial decison to waive fan favorite Terry Cooke among other moves. Click to continue reading...

Creepy Jose forgets to do his job

The Fake Sigi Schmid Blog 28 August @ 08:22 PM EST
Creepy Jose, on finally realizing we were giving Terry Cooke a tryout:
Some of you alerted me to this the last couple of days, and to be honest I just dropped the ball and never even noticed Cooke was out there until today.

Honestly, it's a lot worse than that. Click to continue reading...

INCOMING: Terry Cooke to Seattle Sounders FC?

MLS Rumors 26 August @ 01:07 PM EST
Could the veteran Englishman and one of the best crossers of the ball in MLS be headed to the rave green clad Seattle team? Truth be told, many of the Colorado faithful were sad to see Cooke go and Seattle acquiring his services could be yet another coup for the Emerald City based club.
David Falk the Seattle soccer Examiner tells us that he is training with the Sounders. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Blow Into Windy City

Colorado heads into Chicago on Sunday hoping to avenge only their second ever Independence Day loss last month. The Rapids have a chance to move up to 3rd with a win and be only a point out of second with a game in hand while the Fire are chasing the Crew in the Eastern Conference race so its a big game for both sides. Near Full Squad Available as Rapids Face Crew

We want Rapidman 01 August @ 02:08 PM EST
Gary Smith faces a selection dilemma today of the kind all coaches want. Too many players to choose from for tonight's home game against defending MLS champions, the Columbus Crew. Despite losing new French defender, Julien Baudet, out for up to six weeks following the broken bones in his arm sustained last week, Smith has a pretty full squad to pick from. With the MLS transfer window opening recently, a lot of moves have already been made as squads look for reinforcements to boost their playoff chances. Sometimes this means taking a risk on an overseas player who may struggle to adapt to the different demands of MLS.

RBNY In T&T, Release Bermudian Bum

The Offside Rules 30 July @ 12:00 PM EST
RBNY are down in Trinidad & Tobago getting ready for tonight's match against W Connection in the CONCACAF Champions League. I could say something negative about their chances tonight but since the released the dead, dead weight that was Khano Smith today, I'll take that as an act of goodwill toward the fans and spare them the coarse words. Cooke Waived By Colorado

WVHooligan 29 July @ 05:29 AM EST

Colorado waived British midfielder Terry Cooke yesterday to make room for Jamie Smith.

Cooke piled up a decent amount of assist, 31 to be exact, over the previous three seasons; he had a dozen each in both 2006 and last season, finishing first and third in MLS respectively.

I won't lie to ya, even though he wasn't seeing time in the Mile High city, some other MLS club should jump to get him.

"I'm so disappointed Dad." My four-year-old son summed it up so well when I told him that Terry Cooke had been waived from the Colorado Rapids. Terry Cooke Waived

View From The Couch 28 July @ 05:26 PM EST
Reports are trickling out that Terry Cooke, as expected, has been waived by the Rapids. I expect the official announcement will be made at the same time as the signing of his replacement, Jamie Smith, is made. This move is hardly a surprise as its been obvious that Cookie has been out of favor for a while. Click to continue reading...

One Man's Woe is Another's Gain

We want Rapidman 26 July @ 05:24 PM EST
The Colorado Rapids ended up sealing a comfortable 4-0 victory against the unfortunate New York Red Bulls last night. I'll stick my neck out and say this wasn't the best performance by the Rapids and that the final scoreline flattered them. That sounds a little negative when you think of a 4-0 result but, a couple of decisons going the other way, and the outcome could have been very different. Click to continue reading...

Rapids Crash; Cooke Nowhere to be Seen

Two major defensive errors and a lack of delivery upfront ensured the Colorado Rapids crashed to a 3-1 defeat away to DC United. Unsettled Cooke Facing Uncertain Future

We want Rapidman 16 July @ 06:10 PM EST
It will be interesting to see if Terry Cooke laces up this weekend against DC United. With Colin Clark still absent on US national team duty and the team more likely to shift back to a 4-4-2 formation now that Omar Cummings is back to play upfront with Conor Casey, it would appear as if the veteran winger may get the nod. Rapids Get Trio of Reinforcements

View From The Couch 10 July @ 10:27 AM EST
The Denver Post is reporting that along with French defender Julian Baudet, the Rapids have also signed Argentine striker Facundo Diz and British right-winger Jason Smith. Diz would obviously give us much needed depth up front, while Smith seems to be a replacement for Terry Cooke who has reportedly been asked, and agreed, to not have his contract guaranteed until September instead of on the July 1st date all other MLS contracts are guaranteed on. Rapids Outclassed in First Half

The Colorado Rapids fell to their second straight defeat and their first at home this season as offensive class from the visiting Chicago Fire won the game in the opening 45 minutes. Highs and lows for scoring, 2009 honors (so far)

Colorado Soccer Now | News and commentary about soccer in Colorado 30 June @ 02:50 PM EST

With the Chicago Fire heading to Commerce City for Saturday's big Fourth of July match, The Tuesday List does a little comparison between the Fire's and Rapids' results this season.

The Colorado Rapids have been shut out two times this season:
1) Houston 1, Rapids 0, April 19 at Houston
2) Seattle 3, Rapids 0, June 28 at Seattle

The Chicago Fire, the Rapids' opponent on Saturday, also has been shut out twice:
1) Dallas 3, Chicago 0, May 31
2) Houston 1, Chicago 0, June 5

The Rapids have allowed more than two goals only once so far in 2009:
1) Seattle 3, Rapids 0, June 28 at Seattle

The Fire has allowed more than two goals twice so far:
1) San Jose 3, Chicago 3, April 11
2) Dallas 3, Chicago 0, May 31

And here's a little something extra.
