By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Jan 17, 2012) US Soccer Players -- It's the dawn of another Major
League Soccer draft, this time the Supplemental Draft that until recently was part of what made the
SuperDraft super. Now, it's a Tuesday afternoon exercise in player selection minus the television
coverage or live audience.
The 2012 MLS SuperDraft starts at 12 pm EST today, with television coverage starting at that
time on ESPN2 (also available through ESPN's web service ESPN3). The Philadelphia Union have two
natural SuperDraft selections, the 13th overall pick (13th in the first round) and the 32nd overall
pick (13th in the second round), plus the 35th overall pick (16th in the second round) from
Sporting Kansas City, received as part of the Shavar Thomas trade in 2010.
The comments of the host of The Football League Show, Manish Bhasin, over the whereabouts of his
show in the BBC schedules over the festive break have been causing social media no little disquiet
over the last couple of days or so. This morning, though, a chink of light was granted into a
possible reason behind why Bhasin was being so forthright on the subject, with rumours starting to
appear in the press suggesting that the corporation is not going to renew its option on the
programme come the end of this season.
Following the International Soccer League's solid beginnings in a New York relatively starved of
sporting competition in the summer of 1960, the nascent league consisting of the New York Americans
and a variety of high-profile visiting international clubs had begun 1961 with expanded horizons.
This including growing the league from 12 to 15 teams, and moving beyond its home at the Polo
Grounds in Manhattan by setting up a second location in Montreal, Canada.
Confirmation of the live televised matches for the Third Round of the FA Cup came early this
year, and while there was no great shock in the Manchester derby a match which has, arguably, taken
on a heightened level of importance given the events in the Champions League last night, even if it
still isn't the main even of either teams season it was a little surprising to see that the
decisions were taken by both ITV and ESPN before next weeks Second Round replays had even been
played.
Wednesday turned into a day for announcements from CONCACAF, with the region's governing body
finalizing a deal for television coverage of the Men's and Women's 2012 Olympic Qualifying
tournaments. The tournaments will be available in Spanish on Telemundo with Universal Sports
Network showing games involving the US teams and the finals in English.
Viewers looking at the television schedules for last night may have noticed a gap in the
football coverage. For the first time in more than two decades, there were no highlights from the
FA Cup First Round on the television on the Saturday night after the matches were played, and
viewers were forced to wait until this morning to catch up with what happened yesterday afternoon
instead.
Nature abhors a vacuum, and in the absence of anything season-defining coming from yesterday's
match between Liverpool and Manchester United, the post-match speculation has largely centred upon
claims made by Patrice Evra in the direction of Luis Suarez to a French television station after
the match.
Important notice: All referee reviews on Untold Arsenal are written on the basis of television
coverage. It should be noted that from time to time some TV channels choose not to show an
incident involving the referee (preferring for example to show a replay instead). This can lead
to our reviewer missing something that would [.

English clubs in Europe – present but not transcendent | Kevin McCarra
Despite being Champions League regulars, top clubs from the Premier League have struggled to
blend heft and finesse to make iconic teams England's clubs have been achieving prominence rather
than excellence in the Champions League.
Steve Clarke has admitted to heading to the Brazil v Ghana game at Craven Cottage on Monday night,
with the Liverpool first team coach looking for future talent.
"You can always pick up a game that's interesting, whether it's by television coverage or getting
down to watch it," Clarke said of his plans for the international break.
It's Monday. It's September. The summer is over, with little but short days and dreary
weeknights at Stoke to look forward to in the fall. Unless you're one of our five Australian
readers, of course. But then you've got the local wildlife being in a 97% more killy mood to look
forward to, so it's not all good.
The big news in the MLS today is this morning's announcement that they have struck a new 3-year
TV deal with NBC. The deal is worth a reported $10M per year and will put at least 45 games per
year onto a combination of NBC and NBC Sports (currently known as Versus but being re-branded in
January 2012).

Premier League clubs are increasingly relying on statistics to shape their transfer policy Here
is something you probably did not know: only 13 players across Europe's top five divisions created
more goal-scoring chances last season than Chris Brunt, with the West Bromwich Albion midfielder's
tally of 86 putting him 11 clear of Barcelona's tormentor-in-chief, Xavi.

*Chivas USA have confirmed for the first time that the club is studying "three or four" options
to move elsewhere in Los Angeles County and out of Home Depot Center.
The news doesn't come as much of a surprise. The only way for an MLS club to turn a profit is to
have complete control of all revenue streams at the facility it plays in and right now as a tenant
of Anschutz Entertainment Group in Carson that's not the case for Chivas USA.

Veteran Rangers captain David Weir says he would love to take up any
offer from Everton manager David Moyes to join the coaching team at Goodison Park.
But the 40-year-old says he will not decide on whether to continue playing until the end of the
season.
Moyes told BBC Scotland that he would love Weir to join his backroom staff.
With the announcement of a new broadcast deal between Fox Soccer Channel and Major League
Soccer, it's time for another post about balancing television coverage with the accessibility of
live matches to local fans.
I completely understand the necessity and importance of having as many MLS matches on some kind
of national television channel as possible.

In the relatively short span that I've being a fan of MLS, I have grown to consider the
television coverage of MLS to be like the Snake Exhibit at your local zoo: isolated, thought of in
a wide variety of fashions from cool to ambivalent to disgusting, and lacking the level of
interaction that allows the observer to experience first-hand what is to be offered.
