The Seattle Sounders are not sitting silently as the race for postseason berths in the MLS
Western Conference intensifies.
The club signed FC Kaiserslautern midfielder Christian Tiffert to a Designated Player deal
Friday, according to his representatives. Kaiserslautern's website says that Tiffert's deal with
MLS is for three years.
While well short of embarrassing, it's looking more and more like the crowd for the March 7
CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal -- easily one of the five most important matches the
Sounders have played at home -- will be a bit underwhelming in size. As of Tuesday morning, the
Seattle Sounders have sold about 16,500 tickets for their match against Santos Laguna, according to
team officials (they also said about 32,000 season tickets have been sold).
Long-time South Bay resident and former Galaxy Coach Sigi Schmid is taking aim at the Galaxy,
despite the slim chance the Seattle Sounders have of catching the MLS leaders in the race for the
Supporters' Shield reports Associated Press Sports Writer Tim Booth:
SEATTLE (AP) -- After raising their third straight U.
It was first reported earlier today, but I've independently confirmed that the Seattle Sounders
have apparently exhausted their once-robust season-ticket waiting list. As a Sounders official put
it to me in an email, "We were able to help everyone on the list and by time we open the season we
will be right where we were last year.
"What the fuck were you doing?" Arsene Wenger shouted at Robin van Persie as he trudged off the
field, following his second yellow card, soon after the second half kicked off with Arsenal a goal
down against Southampton. It was the end of February and van Persie's sixth ever start in the
league, after usually being kept on the bench late in to the game before replacing Robert Pires or
Freddie Ljungberg.

After a light regen training on Monday and a day off Tuesday, the Timbers got back to the usual
intensity today in training at Jeld Wen Field.
It was a shorthanded practice, with Diego Chara, James Marcelin, Steve Purdy, Brian Umony and
Futty Danso all with their national teams. The only other player missing was Freddie Braun, but his
absence was not injury related.
DOHA, Qatar — Ten-man Japan struggled past Syria 2-1 in a high-octane and controversial Asian Cup
group match Thursday to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds. Captain Makoto
Hasebe opened the scoring for the three-time champions in the 35th minute but Syria pulled one back
from a penalty controversially awarded against goalkeeper [.

The Hermann Trophy finalists were announced Friday, and two of the three finalists are Reading
United AC alumni: forwards Andrew Wenger of Duke and Billy Schuler of North Carolina. Both are
juniors who grew up in Pennsylvania.
All told, six Reading United alumni were named All-American, with goalkeeper Brian Holt of
Creighton and defender Matt Hedges of North Carolina joining Wenger and Schuler on the first
team.
Cycling has grown into an inevitable daily routine for Germany's Benedikt Hoewedes, Mats Hummels
and Lars Bender (as well as Lukas Podolski and the German National Team officials!) Why take a bus
to the training ground when you can cycle and enjoy the lovely sights and sounds of Gdansk? Plus,
they've only got a week left to really enjoy the city, regardless of the semi-final outcome!

The Czech Republic captain Tomas Rosicky and the goalkeeper Petr Cech are in hospital in Wroclaw
undergoing scans after picking up injuries in their team's 2-1 win over Greece at Euro 2012.
Wednesday night, New England Revolution supporters met with team
officials to address the issues from June 18th's Fortgate fiasco. Fan and frequent reader Andrew
Donahue was on hand and was kind enough to give us his take on the proceedings. I'll have more on
it later.
While the Revs were represented by Bilello and Cathal Conlon, Director of Marketing and the
liaison to the supporter groups, representatives from Team Ops, the Foxborough Police Department,
and MLS were also present.
It's been a week, but Fortgate remains heavy on the minds of MLS fans across the nation as well
as those who support the New England Revolution. Supporters' groups all over the league have been
showing their support through chants and demonstrations in their own sections, and some of the
country's best soccer writers have picked up on this story.
BOYDS, Md. - With an efficient attack and a defense that bent a bunch and broke just enough
times, the New England Revolution kept its hopes of making the U.S. Open Cup field of 40 alive.
US U-20 central defender Gale Agbossoumonde has officially finalized his loan deal with Swedish
Allsvenskan club Djurgardens according to team officials.
2011 NASL Combine held in Fort Lauderdale, FL this past weekend.
The 2011 NASL combine ended Sunday in Ft. Lauderdale with the opportunity for over 70 players to
impress the league's eight coaches, assistant coaches such as the Puerto Rico Islanders' assistant
Adrian Whitbread, Traffic USA Director of Soccer Fernando Clavijo and observers from other
leagues.
D.C. United star Dwayne DeRosario has enjoyed one of the best careers in MLS history and is
widely regarded as one of the best players the league has ever seen. He has won multiple
championships, and most recently a Golden Boot, but the one honor he hadn't won before was MLS Most
Valuable Player.
Philly Soccer Page and Philly.com are reporting that Philadelphia Union midfielder Keon Daniel
is unavailable for Saturday's game against the Portland Timbers due to visa issues.
Daniel's situation was originally reported on by Philly Soccer Page, who tweeted the information
earlier today (via @PhillySoccerPg).
Paraguay's fairy tale ride in the Copa America tournament continues as they once again rode
their luck and won another penalty shootout to beat Venezuela to set up a Copa America final
against Uruguay.
Paraguay, which amazingly has yet to win a match in the tournament, booked its place in the
final following a scoreless tie and a 5-3 victory on penalties.
Throughout the first few decades of sports broadcasting, the role of the so-called "sideline
reporter" was relatively straightforward, and very limited. They were called upon to conduct brief
player and coach interviews at various pauses throughout the action, and, if there were any player
injuries, they were also tasked with trying to gather a report from team officials on the exact
nature of the injury, its severity, and whether the individual's ability to play the remainder of
the game was impacted.
Some quick business hitters from around the league. We'll start with the announcement that the
2011 MLS Cup will be held at the Home Depot Center for the first time since 2008. Los Angeles is
a favored location for the championship game because of the allure of the City, the importance of
the AEG owned venue and the typically sizable crowds that turn out.
Last night, the Philadelphia Union held a rescheduled version of the Meet the Players event. The
gathering at PPL Park offered fans to get autographs from and take pictures with their favorite
Union players.
The event has been referred to by many as a rousing success. But not all of the fans that made
the trek to PPL were able to experience this event in its entirety.
The CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals begin tonight, and I have just one itty-bitty
question for you loyal Daily Soccer Fix readers: Do you even know what this heavily acronym-ed
beast, this CONCACAF Champions League thingy, is in the first place?
Top team officials have chosen not to reveal the result of a scan done on injured Eagles skipper
Joseph Yobo, insisting that they would prefer that they are fully briefed before they could make
further comments on the hamstring injury the player suffered.
"We are waiting for them to rejoin the team before we can comment on the situation.
