Toronto 1 - Tauro 0 After winning Major League Soccer's Player of the Week award with two goals
against Colorado, Danny Koevermans scored again to give Toronto a CONCACAF Champions League win at
BMO Field. Koevermans's goal came in the 40th minute in a game where Toronto only put two shots on
frame. Toronto could use some MLS help to stay in 2nd-place in Group C.
Yes, I have faltered in the blogging TFC world in recent weeks. I was so discouraged by the August
home game against San Jose that I stopped thinking and writing TFC for weeks. I had relatives in
town, my beloved uncle from Los Angeles. He has been a soccer fan since his childhood back in
England. We talk soccer all the time on the phone and get together annually - usually to watch the
big games.

Tuesday's CONCACAF Champions League match between the LA Galaxy and Monarcas Morelia was yet
another example of the diabolical state of officiating in this tournament and from CONCACAF
referees in general. Multiple replay angles proved without a shadow of a doubt that Robbie Keane
was onside when the ball was headed forward toward the Morelia goal and it wasn't even close.

Both teams won their group openers, with Dallas becoming the first MLS team to win on Mexican
soil by beating Pumas UNAM and Toronto winning in Panama with a 1-0 decision over Tauro.

Toronto FC's 2-1 Thursday night over FC Tauro in Panama completed a clean sweep by MLS teams
beginning this year's CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage. All five MLS teams in the group
stage won their opening match, with the highlight being the first MLS win in 25 attempts on Mexican
soil as FC Dallas defeated 2011 [.
The final score was 2-1 in favour of TFC. The word to describe this Champion's League game between
Tauro of Panama and Toronto FC would have to be brutal. The play of TFC, the way that Tauro
controlled the ball but had no ability to put it away, the way that the ref was calling every
challenge a foul, the way that DeGuzman lunged and fouled to give up the penalty kick that resulted
in the goal, all of this and so much more - brutal.
It's up to you Toronto FC.
MLS sides can go a remarkable 5-for-5 in their opening group matches in the CONCACAF Champions
League should Toronto FC secure a victory on the road at Tauro in Panama tonight (8 p.m. ET, Fox
Soccer), although they will have to do it without Torsten Frings and Eric Avila.

The hex for MLS clubs in Mexico has finally been broken.
Marvin Chavez scored in the 66th minute to give FC Dallas a 1-0 victory over Pumas UNAM in their
Group C opener. With the win, Dallas become the first team from MLS to win in Mexico in the
CONCACAF Champions League 24 tries south of the border.

This is the second part of the preview of the CONCACAF Champions League group stage, focusing on
Groups C and D. Group C: UNAM, Tauro, FC Dallas, Toronto FC This is the only group with two Major
League Soccer teams, but both teams reside in opposite ends of the league table. FC Dallas have
recovered well from the injury to David Ferreira with Brek Shea becoming one of the revelations of
the 2011 season, while Toronto FC's season has floundered since opening weekend.
Panama: Hot canal actionOne of the best things about Toronto FC's qualification into
CONCACAF Champions League proper is the chance to meet new opponents. The finest of the finest
Caribbean, North and Central American squads doing battle to crown the ultimate regional
champion... like a battle royale.

Ugo Ihemelu scored off a first-half corner kick, and FC Dallas' stout defense did the rest as
the MLS side topped Alianza FC, 1-0, for the second consecutive week to win their CONCACAF
Champions League preliminary tie on a 2-0 aggregate and advance to the tournament's group
stage.
FC Dallas got a 1-0 home win over Alianza to advance to the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions
League 2-0 on aggregate. Ugo Ihemelu scored the game's only goal in the 37th minute with Kevin
Hartman picking up the shutout. Dallas joins UNAM Pumas, Tauro, and Toronto in Group C. "What you
saw tonight was fatigue," Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman said.

No road wins this season. A minus 22 goal differential. Six games lost where they gave up
three goals or more, including a 4-0 loss and a 6-2 loss. Nineteen points, the third lowest in
the league. More trades than a Wall Street stock broker. To be blunt, there has been little for
Toronto FC fans to be cheery about this season.
Ryan Johnson scored twice in a 10-minute span, and Toronto FC topped Real Esteli, 2-1 (4-2 on
aggregate) in Nicaragua Tuesday night to win its CONCACAF Champions League preliminary tie and book
a place in the tournament's Group C.
Johnson seized momentum for TFC with a great left-footed volley from just outside the area in
the 37th minute to negate Real Esteli's away goal and give Toronto a two-goal aggregate edge.
Toronto FC's 2011 campaign has left plenty to be desired, but with a favorable result in
Nicaragua Tuesday night (10 p.m., Fox Soccer Channel), the Reds can seal their place in the
CONCACAF Champions League group stage.
On the strength of two Joao Plata goals, TFC took the home leg of its preliminary tie with Real
Esteli, 2-1, but a late away goal by Alesandro Calero could be a huge factor in determining which
team moves forward.
FC Dallas fought off the elements and an unfamiliar environment to take a big step closer to
reaching the CONCACAF Champions League group stage.
Jackson's 70th-minute goal gave FCD a 1-0 victory over Alianza FC in El Salvador on a rainy
Thursday night. The MLS side takes that advantage and the away goal into next Wednesday's return
leg with hopes of qualifying for the group stage, where it would compete with Pumas UNAM, Tauro FC
and either Toronto FC or Real Esteli.
