U.S. fail to impress against Slovakia

Covering the Pitch 16 November @ 09:39 AM EST

There were no surprises on Saturday while watching the U.S. men's team struggle in Bratislavia. No Landon Donovan and no Charlie Davies removes the two fastest, most dangerous attacking players. Watching Clint Dempsey lumber up and down the pitch, hoping for something a bit extra, wasn't enough.

A Round Up of all Things Arsenal

All Four One, and One Four All! 10 November @ 07:32 AM EST

Forgive my prolonged absence. It is absolutely unpardonable, though fact is that the average arsefan has had so much more than just my small space to keep them entertained over the past couple of weeks which have been fantastic. The Arsenal has posted its Q1 results and they have been emphatic.

LATEST: Administration looms for Southend

Longpier 03 November @ 07:21 PM EST
Southend United will today (Wed) learn whether they will enter administration and be deducted 10-points from their League One tally.
Yesterday (3rd), at around 8pm, a bid to take over the club by a consortium of local businesses was turned down by the board of SUFC. Robin Van Centerforward?

Arsenal View From a Gooner 03 November @ 08:52 AM EST

It always feels good to see Spurs lose, especially if we're the one that beat them

If Arsenal were to win anything this season, Robin Van Persie's contribution to it would be very very vital. If Fabregas is the fulcrum of the side and the player others look for the ammunition, then RVP will the one looking to be at the end of those supplies.

Playoffs – Salt Lake 1-0 Columbus

The Offside - Columbus 01 November @ 12:47 AM EST

It's Halloween, and I'm scared.

Not of the hordes of ghosts and goblins floating around as I type this, but rather that the MLS season of my beloved Columbus Crew will come to an end on Thursday night.

Tonight, as they took on Real Salt Lake in the first leg of the home-and-home playoff series, The Massive looked anemic.

Is 'El Capitan' Retiring?

Pistolas F.C. 30 October @ 04:08 PM EST
TORONTO - Age appears nothing but a number for the beloved Captain of Pistolas FC Charles Eppich, as he continues to score goals in limited games, and remains the All-Time Goalscorer.
In fact he scored 2 goals in the finals to bring his 2009 tally to 6 and his all-time tally to 12.
But his absence from the roster during the Toronto Cup - an absence not brought on by availability - left many teammates and fans wondering about the status of our fearless leader. Click to continue reading...

Jeu du Jour Week 10: Bordeaux back on top

Some People are On The Pitch 28 October @ 03:52 PM EST
All of a sudden, it seems no-one wants to win Ligue 1 this season. Every time a team rises to the top of the pile, they quickly lose their next game and fall from grace again.
Such is the case for Lyon who recently replaced long-standing leaders Bordeaux at the top end of Ligue 1. Their trip to Nice seemed barely troublesome after beating Liverpool in the Champions League last week, but they hadn't accounted for the home side's desperate need for points. Keita Shines in Barca Victory; FC Barcelona-6, Zaragoza-1

All About F C Barcelona 25 October @ 05:19 PM EST

FC Barcelona extended their lead at the top of the league to three points with a marvelous 6-1 thrashing of Zaragoza. It was quite a night with Keita scoring a hat-trick. Not many times you will see Keita outscoring the likes of Messi and Ibrahmovic. There were serious doubts about Barca's form, but the players put them into rest with a sensational display. The Last Soccer Match At Giants Stadium Ends On A Good Feeling

Major League Soccer Talk 25 October @ 12:24 AM EST

On a cold and rainy night at the swamps of the Meadowlands, this was the final performance on the soccer side at Giants Stadium. Yes the season has been lost since the middle of June, but that doesn't mean the club can't try to play for pride and knock off Toronto FC from the playoffs.

Late Night Playoff Update: Come on you Washington, Osmonds Massive, up the Ewings... how you doin' Mo Johnston?

the yorkies 24 October @ 09:15 PM EST
------------------ "Sing when you're winning" - RSL = 40pts
After having to swallow a 5-0 debacle in New York, one thing was clear - any team other than Toronto FC had to make the playoffs tonight. There was that brief moment where it was still possible that the Reds, that unbalanced, built-on-the cheap by Mo Johnston squad could still make the playoffs despite the club's horrifying display and completely mediocre season. Is Diego Tardelli the right man for Manchester City?

Pitaco do gringo's Brazilian football blog 19 October @ 05:27 PM EST

Joint top scorer with 15 goals in the Campeonato Brasileiro (national league, which has 8 rounds remaining), 16 goals in the Campeonato Mineiro (local State championship), 4 goals in the Copa do Brasil (Brazilian cup) not a bad tally for Atlético Mineiro's Diego Tardelli. Add to this his recent call up to Brazil and it's not much of a surprise that the player is being linked with a possible move to Manchester City (though who isn't these days?

How to Motivate a Player: Write About Him

100 Percent Soccer 12 October @ 09:25 PM EST

Ever since I wrote a column Sept. 29 about the poor form this season of Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan he's been on something of a mini-tear.

His goal in a man of the match performance in Chivas USA's 2-0 win over the Wizards Saturday is up for MLS Goal of the Week honors (he also had four of the club's six shots on goal); his five goals on the year now equals last season's tally.

4,000 Goals vs Blackburn, Lancashire

Okay, it wasn't quite that many... but if the game had gone long enough we might have gotten there eventually. And if we had, Cesc would have probably assisted on 3,990 of them. I would be a vain writer indeed to think that I could come up with some kind of superlative or plaudit that I haven't already read in the hours since the match.
