When Barry Moat's Newcastle United takeover bid failed, a lot of supporters feared that without
money to invest in players, we'd struggle to add to our already depleted squad. The current
Newcastle squad is probably just good enough to get out of the Championship, but without
further investment, it's looking bleak for our future Premier League survival.

Better him than Usmanov
News fluttered in yesterday that the American tycoon, Stan Kroenke has purchased more Arsenal
shares to bring his shares to 29.9%. Just 0.09% short of needing to make a move for the rest of the
shares. Now I've reserved my thoughts on this matter for quite some time as it has already been
highlighted in many other blogs and there is no need for me to talk anymore about it, but with Stan
so close to a takeover, I guessed now is as good a time as any to give this topic a special
mention.

Happy Friday to you all,
we should probably start with the news that Stan Kroenke is on threshold of the 30% which would
require him to make an offer for all the shares in Arsenal. We've watched him draw ever closer in
the last few months, his intentions remain very much a mystery. What you can say though is that
with the 100 shares he bought from Peter Hill-Wood what is happening is being done with the full
knowledge of the board.

I'm not quite sure where this week has gone. It's absolutely motored past. However, I suspect I
drifted along, basking a bit too much in derby delight, and before I could whistle, the Champions
League game had been and gone, and Stan Kroenke had hoovered up yet more shares.
We continued our fine form, albeit against what turned out to be the limited AZ.

shares as he inches ever closer to a takeover.

Not enough that Charlie Miller, last year's fan favourite, has disgraced himself, now he is back on
the injured list. So is Danny Tiatto. Should have let them go.
Moore is out too - sorry he shouldn't be our marquee (I understand he is paid what so clubs pay
players inside the cap).
Now we will probably play the A-League's worst player - Bob Malcolm.

First of all, a big happy birthday to Arsene Wenger who has reached the big 6-0. I hope he
enjoys his glass of red tonight.
There is some team news ahead of our game on Sunday, Fabianski and Nasri made good comebacks the
other night in the reserves but Sunday comes too early for them, Denilson should be back in four
weeks and Djourou is out until March at least.

Stan Kroenke has been quietly sweeping up shares wherever he can find them. He is now a mere
1.04% short of the 29.9% trigger for a complete bid for the club. Whether he can spare the £460
million, in the short term to buyout the club is a different question.
Frankly after the Tom Hicks and George Gillett hatchet job at Liverpool, you have to be very
wary of someone yet to pay half of the £100m he owes for the shares that he bought last
December.

My blog over at SoccerCity is already a little outdated given the events of today but I'll publish

Back then Newcastle were in despair, mourning the loss of their Premier League status.

You see that great big ditch down there? The one big enough to swallow St. James's Park? That's
how far my heart sank when I heard the news that Chris Hughton was offered the manager's job on a

Firstly, this is a huge backwards step and reeks of the lack of ambition wafting out from the
Gallowgate.
