You get a phone call from Red Bull.
It's Erik Stover.
Is this another automated call to buy season tickets? Not this time.
You are offered the position of teams Sporting Director. And you jump at the chance.
But now what? Well, I turn it over to you -
What would you do to turn around this franchise ahead of the 2010 season?

Gregan'em (pronounced like the Southernism "Momma'nem"*) take the show on the road to Harrison for
the laying of the final piece of sodding sod. They're also joined by special guests Tab Ramos &

next to Ramos & Williams they are the tallest team of pundits in the American soccersphere.

Daniel Feuerstein had the pleasure of interviewing three soccer legends this past Saturday when
he sat down with Tony Meola, Tab Ramos and Youri Djorkaeff to discuss the legacy of playing at
Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
The players share their thoughts about the last game at Giants Stadium as well as their future
home, what the latest developments are regarding the acquisition of a new coach for Red Bull New
York, as well as whether Tony Meola would like to return the organization.

The New York Red Bulls played their last game at Giants Stadium Saturday night,
Oct. 24, 2009, putting to rest 13 years of (mostly bad) memories. They did so in impressive
fashion, defeating Toronto FC by a 5-0 score that ended TFC's playoff hopes.
The massive Swamp was never meant to be anything beyond a temporary waystation for the New
York/New Jersey Major League Soccer franchise.

Standard Liege, the former club of Oguchi Onyewu gave an English club a hard time for the third
time in two seasons yesterday in a 3-2 loss to Arsenal. Meanwhile, Gooch didn't even make the match
squad for his new team, AC Milan in a 2-1 victory Tuesday over Marseille.
Despite my initial excitement about Gooch's move, it's now become obvious that his current lack
of playing time could affect his USMNT form.

Ramos should tell a reporter that Ammann needs to learn how to show respect!

Eric Wynalda was a member of a pretty nice generation of US Soccer. He helped get the country on
the map from a footie sense. Along with Claudio Reyna, Brian McBride, Earnie Stewart, Tab Ramos,
and some others - Wynalda was pretty legit in the 90s. Clearly, he's not too happy with the US team
after their 3-0 display against Brazil, but was this really necessary?

Should have gotten to this earlier, huh?
Giuseppe Rossi is a soccer player of (seemingly) quite exceptional ability. His
two goals led Italy to a 3-1 win over the US in the first group match of the FIFA Confederations
Cup on Monday and have led to the 22-year-old from Teaneck, New Jersey being branded a "traitor" by
many US fans.

I am having another bout of allergies (man, getting old sucks), so my brother in blog
Chris C went down to Red Bull Arena to take in the sights and sounds of the
Topping Off Ceremony.
And what is a "Topping Off Ceremony?"
Wikipedia, do your work:
In building construction, topping out, or topping off, is a ceremony held when the last beam is
placed at the top of a building.

Here is a link to a really good analysis by Fox Sports' Jaime Trecker of the U.S. Olympic team's
performance after they lost to Nigeria and are out of the tournament. It really was an overall
disappointing performance by the team. They should be looking to achieve better results at this
point and I agree that its time for Peter Nowak to move on.

Might not have the same impact as Abby Wambach being out of the women's team, but Nathan Sturgis
is out of the Olympics with an injured hamstring. The replacement is Dax McCarty of FC Dallas.

- A big USA-Mexico game tonight. This would be the U-17 Women's World Cup qualifying tournament

Tab Ramos thrilled the crowd that landmark day at Giants Stadium by nailing an absolute beauty of a
goal. It was July 14, 1996, date of the first MLS All-Star game in the debut season for an upstart
league. A venue with so much soccer tradition, thanks to the Cosmos' dance through the sporting
stratosphere, had just been granted yet another historic moment.

There was a Claudio Reyna before the Red Bulls - and that is the Reyna that I
and the rest of the world will remember forever. Feel how you may, but no one can take away the
accomplishments of Captain America.
He was a pioneer for United States soccer. Following the "Golden Era" of American
Soccer from 1990-1995, Reyna was one of the first youngsters to emerge as a steady bridge from the
old guard to the new.

In case you read Eric Wynalda's comments on Claudio Reyna in today's notebook and wondering what
the former U.S. forward and ESPN commentator is doing these days, the answer is he's in business
with Joe-Max Moore. See the clip.
Wynalda says he doesn't miss TV at all, and he's watching more games than ever while spending
time with his kids and occasionally playing with the PDL's Bakersfield Brigade.

The domain transfer hasn't fully gone through yet (I'll call tech support as soon as I finish my

England, Francisco Mendoza is the only player currently on Chivas USA's roster who was there from
the beginning, and put it out to his readers for the others.

Fifteen years ago today in Foxboro, MA the US National Team recorded one of its most important pre World Cup 1994 victories with a 2-0 win over England. For me personally as a US Soccer supporter, this was the match that proved to both myself and other die in wool US supporters that we could compete at a high level internationally.

RED BULLS PREVIEW - 2008
Let me begin by saying - this is completely based on the team as currently configured. I know April
15th is right around the corner, and 2 signings can change everything, but this is the current
situation.
With that said . . .
Lets begin with a Haiku . .
