Opposition 11 is back to preview Kansas City in the season opener for both sides

One last look back at 2016, here are my end of year awards for moment of the year in 2016.

Game of the year - Comets vs Mustangs 12/3/16 - Shutouts don't happen often in indoor soccer, since the Kansas City Comets rebirth back in 2010, the Comets had never had one. That changed in December of this year when the Comets defeated the previously unbeaten Chicago Mustangs 6-0 at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.

A new year means that it's time to reset and look towards the future. With that said, here are my wants and wishes for 2017.

1. Silverware - Always the number one priority, winning trophies, painting the wall. Kansas City has made a habit of winning trophies over the last few years, hopefully KC's teams can return to that in 2017.

1. Silverware - I'm not counting the Swope Park Rangers' Western Conference championship unfortunately (more on that later), so this wasn't a wish that was met this year by any of KC's four teams.

A Sporting KC legend retired today, Paulo Nagamura called it a career today, retiring at the age of 33 to take an assistant coaching position with the Swope Park Rangers. Whether he will eventually become a Sporting Legend at Children's Mercy Park is a discussion for another day, but he will certainly be remembered as a legend among fans of the club for his style of play, his passion, and the ice that ran through his veins when it came to penalty kick shootouts.
