Why does Germany wear green? The Ireland myth and the truth.
After dropping a few hints over the past few months, Adidas released the new Germany away kit
that will be used throughout EURO 2012. It's green. Really, really green. Like you, we've seen a
German flag before and could not find a trace of green on it.

Chris Coleman has been appointed the new manager of the Welsh national team.
An odd fact associated to the appointment of Chris Coleman is that in March 1994 Wales played
Norway in an friendly at Ninian Park. It was the solitary game in John Toshack's first spell as
Welsh manager (a spell that lasted for little more than a few weeks).
Or doesn't turn, rather.
This club is something else, and it's all down to Bulat Chagaev, Chechen rebel hell bent on
destroying tiny little football clubs from quaint Swiss cities. Despite showing up appearing as
though he had bags of cash, and making some signings indicating money was on the way, it's been
nothing but a complete trainwreck: a disaster while everyone rubbernecks from beyond the scene.
The Brazilian Football Confederation has confirmed Brazil's playing schedule for the first six
months of June 2012. The South Americans will take on Bosnia and Herzegovina in Switzerland on
February 28th. On May 26th they fly to Hamburg to play Denmark. 30th or 31st will see Brazil
against the USA in Boston or Washington.
Swiss side FC Sion have been docked 36 points by their national federation, the Schweizer
Fussball Verband. The deduction came into force with the club losing three points for every game
which featured any of six ineligible players – namely Stefan Glarner, Pascal Feindouno, José
Julio Gomes Gonçalves, Billy Ketkeophomphone, Mario Mutsch und Gabriel Garcia de la Tore in the
country's Axpo Super League.

After the disappointment of Wednesday night still painfully fresh in the minds of everyone
connected to Manchester United they prepare to welcome Mick McCarthy's Wolverhampton Wanderers. How
will United bounce back from the defeat and ultimate removal from the Champions League in
Switzerland? Mick McCarthy's Wolves will no doubt sniff blood and offer a tough [.
Sir Alex Ferguson look's a forlorn figure as he try's to explain how his side lost to Basel in
Switzerland and exited what he believes is the greatest competition in the World. To be honest I've
never seen the great man look and sound so miserable!
Not for the first time this season, Manchester United pressed the self-destruct button in Europe
when losing 2-1 against Basel in Switzerland last night, a result which sees the champions dropping
into the Europa League. It is nothing short of an unmitigated disaster for Ferguson, his players
and the club.
When you think of Manchester United and crucial Champions League games, you normally think of the
knockout rounds, right? That is indeed usually the case, but tonight, United are in Switzerland to
face Basel, with the knowledge that defeat will send them crashing out of the competition and into
the Europa League.
The fat lady has yet to sing, but it's all but over, or just plain over, in three of the four
groups in this year's NextGen Series. From the top ... Celtic needed a serious dose of luck to keep
their European adventure going. A group-dominating giant had to be slain by a relative minnow
twice. They also had to beat Barcelona in Barcelona.
Liverpool have entered the race to sign Switzerland youngster Fabian Frei, but face competition
from a host of European clubs such as Juventus and Schalke as interest intensifies.
Considered by many pundits as a hot prospect, Frei has established himself as full international
since his step up from the Under-21 squad in the summer and remains an integral part of Basel's
squad though Swiss media are suggesting that his seven year stay at the Swiss Super League
champions could be coming to an end if the interest from Liverpool is genuine which its believed
is.
After beating Aston Villa away last weekend, Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Man United players will
have no problem to win their final decider game against FC Basel in Switzerland next Wednesday
and...

It was not a good night in Europe for sides of Manchester and both City and United are in real
danger of not qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
City have the harder route to the knockout stages after they lost 2-1 in Napoli. Edinson Cavani
showed why he has drawn so much interest from all the top European clubs as he scored two goals and
was by far the best player on the pitch.
Liverpool is reportedly set to rival Sunderland for FC Zurich striker Admir Mehmedi when the
transfer window opens in January.
The 20-year-old has scored 13 goals in 47 appearances for his current employers, while he has been
awarded three senior international caps for Switzerland.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool has sent scouts to monitor Mehmedi and will battle
Sunderland for his signature.
The prognosis on Rafael van der Vaart's latest injury is better than at first feared and it
seems that the Dutchman could well be fit for Monday night's game with Aston Villa. VDV suffered
the problem during Holland's friendly with Switzerland and was subsequently withdrawn from the
Dutch squad to face Germany.

Fabio Capello's England have experienced some miserable results in the past year or so, such as the
humiliating 4-1 defeat to Germany and the disappointing draws to Switzerland and Montenegro. For a
national side that is so steeped in history and success, scorelines from certain matches haven't
matched the players' unquestionable ability.
Luis Suarez declared himself 'very happy' after scoring all four goals in a 4-0 win over Chile to
help Uruguay stay top of the South American World Cup qualifying group.

Former CONCACAF interim president Lisle Austin has seen his one-year ban by FIFA upheld on appeal.
Austin was banned by FIFA for petitioning an outside court to reinstate him after CONCACAF's
Executive Committee removed him from his post for dismissing then CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck
Blazer. Austin has one more option through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland,
but it's highly likely that he will remain suspended until June.
If one is the loneliest number, what does that make zero? After Ajax drew away to Fenerbahce they
joined the imperfect mass that constitutes this year's NextGen field. Sporting and Tottenham remain
unbeaten, but perfection is now a thing of the past for all 16 tournament teams. Yet if anyone can
claim to have truly attained perfection it is Barcelona.

Arsenal defender Johan Djourou admitted that the Gunners "shot themselves in the foot" when they

Why all the panic over Rooney when England have a proven replacement waiting for a
proper chance?
Nobody is doubting his supreme quality but maybe THAT ban is the best thing to cure the
country's Wayne Rooney dependency. Especially when strikers like Jermain Defoe, who have actually
scored for England at a major tournament, fail to get the credit they deserve.
The best keep getting better, or so the saying goes. Unilaterally applying that logic to Europe's
premier youth club competition tells us that the worst, in theory, keep getting worse. Nothing
supports such a conviction more than the latest events in the world of NextGen.In 1702 a tasteful
farmhouse was built in the Catalan countryside.
Striker links with Spurs continue to dominate the transfer columns and the latest player to have
his name mentioned in connection with a move to the Lane is a Swiss centre forward who is currently
making a name for himself in the Bundesliga.
Eren Derdiyok is 23 years old and plays for Bayer Leverkusen, having joined from FC Basle in
2009.
Why it wasn't good enough from Rooney or Capello
All that money, Fabio, and where are we? Scraping draws against the likes of Montenegro and
Switzerland to limp into the Euro 2012 Finals. All that money, Wayne, and where were you? Back in
the dressing room after one of the most stupid and rash red cards of your career.
Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill earned his sixth cap when he lined up for England's Euro
2012 qualifier against Montenegro last night. While England only needed a draw to secure their
place in the finals that was all they got. 2-2 was the final score — England's overall
performance was enough but disappointing.
