Sad news out of Germany yesterday, as it appears star goalkeeper Robert Enke took his own life.
The 32 year old was apparently struck by a train. He is survived by his wife and their adopted
daughter.
The impact of this one will be felt a while over there.

- FC Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has been officially presented as the new manager of the Catalan
national team. He's been given the full option to call up players from Barca, and for a man who's
project is coaching a team that plays two matches year, he's pretty psyched about it:
"Our
style of play will depend, logically, on the quality of the players we have. Click to continue reading...

The Swede who is director of football at Notts County felt he could combine his position at the
club and the coaching job of the Swedish national team. The Swedish football association was on
board with the proposal. But Notts County executive chairman Peter Trembling felt that Eriksson
could not have his cake and eat it too.

Three goals in seven minutes from three different players. And by the 27th minute of the first
half, it wouldn't have been arrogant to consider the game over. I'm surprised that Racing Santander
didn't just turn out the lights in the stadium during half-time so that their shell-shocked
supporters could split to feed their sorrows with plentiful plates of boquerones and mugs of
Estrella Galacia.

Now that's a nice DP.
The Anti-Beckham (kinda) Freddie Ljungberg said he isn't looking to make a move to any European
club -- whether there be interest or not. He's staying in the Emerald City.
"I will stay here. I like it in Seattle," Ljungberg said after the Sounders wrapped up
practice Thursday at Microsoft Corp.

Phew - I feel like it's been a long time since I sat down with some good strong coffee and just
caught up here. There's lots of news in the soccer world as the WPS season kick-off is just weeks
away! March 29th, to be exact. (I should probably think about taking a day or two [...]

Well, after slip-sliding down the driveway and dodging the downed trees and getting to the credit
union and the bank and then to work, it turned out that we were closing. I made a few calls,
got a couple of things done (whatever could be done sans network and internet connections) and
headed on home [.

Even though the euros were hardly a success, many of our players have managed to impress clubs all
over Europe. The British media likes to portray the Swedish national team as full of
footballers that aren't quite good enought for the Premier League. Fortunately for Sweden
supporters this is not the .

Lindsey Dolich (of ESPNsoccernet) has posted her analysis of the USWNT 18-woman Olympic Roster. I
love the "battle cry" that she cites, as Pia continues her transformation of this team.
Embrace change. Be brave. A profile of Pia went up on the NBC Olympic Site yesterday and I was
interested to note that she debuted for [.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic would have woken up with a sore head the morning after the match between Sweden
and Northern Ireland. Unfortunately it wasn't due to a hangover after celebrating Sweden's
qualification for next year's European Championships. His headache would have been due to the fact
the ball delivery provided by many of his team mates was aimed at the poor guy's head (or even more
often and less precisely, somewhere in the general vicinity of his head).
