Given the talk of how we have cooled off in recent weeks after such a torrid start to the season, I
thought it worth taking a look at just how our start this season - still considered to be exceeding
pre-season expectation - compared with those in previous years.

Saga of the transfer of an excellent, experienced English defender to the ambitious
fourth-league club was over even before it started. Sol Campbell broke the five-year
contract with Notts County after only one match and this move might cost him a break from
professional football till next midterm, that is to say January.

Ooohh I do love a good football story.
One of the latest story lines in the soap opera that is the Football League revolves around Sol
Campbell.
I have to confess I was surprised when he went to Notts County. It seemed a really odd move from
where I was sitting but I just thought I was probably missing something.

I felt the pressure as soon as I arrived for training. Hey Big Man, what was it like scoring in a
Champions League final? Did you get laid that night even though you lost? What does Thierry Henry
look like naked?
Fine enough, but you know that song by the Band, The Weight? It was running through my head while I
was drilling with the fullbacks—can you call people who can't run fullbacks?

revealing he took inspiration for his heroics from Michael Shields.

A fair bit of activity flying around as deadline day appoaches for the big European Clubs. There's
usually a couple of big surprising moves on the last day, and while I wouldn't expect anything
quite like last season's deadline day, I suspect a few people will be changing clubs at the last
minute. One man [.

What's the difference between Notts County and Newcastle United?
Lots of things of course - like one being on an upward trajectory, and one, at least until
recently, downwards. Oh and one has a new owner and one doesn't. And then of course there are Sven
and Sol.
But apart from that, I would struggle to tell them apart.

With Norwich throwing in seven goals at home and Sven managing five on his League Two debut,
they can't say that had a paucity of stories to choose from. The BBC launched their Football League
coverage in a bold and brash style, with a live match and a highlights package that will now become
part of the landscape of Saturday evenings.

Image via Wikipedia According to a recent survey, Nottingham has a ratio of one man per four women.
After reading that I realised why wily old silver-fox Sven Goran Eriksson took his new post of
director of football at Notts County. The famous lover of women clearly also heard that statistic
and couldn't resist the [.

The news that Sven Goran Eriksson is to take up the inexplicit ‘Director of Football' role at

Ronaldo would leave it at some point and that City would be spending big but if you went down to

Suleiman Al Fahim wants Maradona to become a 'global ambassador' to the club.
"What I think is that he should be president of a club and have the right to buy and choose
players."
It appears that Maradona is interested according to his lawyer.
Moyano said: "He has got top players ready and he is even ready to leave the Argentine
national team.

What am I doing to celebrate?
Well I'm stuck in a London hotel at a 2 day planning event, wishing I was tucked up next to my
lover instead.
Even if he has been surreptitiously posting on my blog.
He proved to be right about Sven, although I am much more sceptical about his Beckham story.

The jury is still out on Brazilian midfielder Elano. From a fantasy footballing perspective, the
Manchester City playmaker had a superb season statistically in 2007-2008 (under Sven) but dropped
off a bit under Mark Hughes this past season. And with The Confederations Cup kicking off this
weekend, I've been checking out Brazil's recent results and noticed that Elano is a fixture in
Brazil's starting eleven week in and week out in World Cup Qualifying alongside Kaka.
