The first ten games

Bitter and Blue 02 November @ 05:30 PM EST
Given the talk of how we have cooled off in recent weeks after such a torrid start to the season, I thought it worth taking a look at just how our start this season - still considered to be exceeding pre-season expectation - compared with those in previous years.

What went wrong with Sol Campbell in Notts County?

Soccer Pie 27 September @ 03:01 AM EST

Saga of the transfer of an excellent, experienced English defender to the ambitious fourth-league club was over even before it started. Sol Campbell broke the five-year contract with Notts County after only one match and this move might cost him a break from professional football till next midterm, that is to say January.

The Young And The Restless

For Girls Who Can't Do Football 23 September @ 01:40 PM EST
Ooohh I do love a good football story.
One of the latest story lines in the soap opera that is the Football League revolves around Sol Campbell.
I have to confess I was surprised when he went to Notts County. It seemed a really odd move from where I was sitting but I just thought I was probably missing something. Click to continue reading...

Sol Campbell Leaves Notts County

A More Splendid Life 23 September @ 06:05 AM EST
I felt the pressure as soon as I arrived for training. Hey Big Man, what was it like scoring in a Champions League final? Did you get laid that night even though you lost? What does Thierry Henry look like naked?
Fine enough, but you know that song by the Band, The Weight? It was running through my head while I was drilling with the fullbacks—can you call people who can't run fullbacks? Click to continue reading...

Deadline Day approaching - Jenas to Inter? Really?

The Offside 30 August @ 12:12 PM EST
A fair bit of activity flying around as deadline day appoaches for the big European Clubs. There's usually a couple of big surprising moves on the last day, and while I wouldn't expect anything quite like last season's deadline day, I suspect a few people will be changing clubs at the last minute. Spot The Difference

For Girls Who Can't Do Football 25 August @ 01:03 PM EST
What's the difference between Notts County and Newcastle United?
Lots of things of course - like one being on an upward trajectory, and one, at least until recently, downwards. Oh and one has a new owner and one doesn't. And then of course there are Sven and Sol.
But apart from that, I would struggle to tell them apart. Click to continue reading...

“The Football League Show” - The Verdict

Twohundredpercent 09 August @ 12:51 PM EST

With Norwich throwing in seven goals at home and Sven managing five on his League Two debut, they can't say that had a paucity of stories to choose from. Sven’s dream job at Notts County

goalpost.tv 29 July @ 04:37 PM EST
Image via Wikipedia According to a recent survey, Nottingham has a ratio of one man per four women. The Sven Goran Effect!!

Oldham Athletic Are The Real Latics 25 July @ 01:30 PM EST
He has had that 'effect' with women and it looks like the SVEN EFFECT is taking over the oldest club in the Football League..... that is Notts County.
This afternoon (Saturday) County took on Forest (from just across the River Trent) and beat them 2-1.
Albeit it was a pre-season friendly, but over 12,000 people travelled to Meadow Lane to witness SVENGALI's arrival.

Notts County’s Coup

goalpost.tv 23 July @ 03:22 PM EST
The news that Sven Goran Eriksson is to take up the inexplicit ‘Director of Football' role at League Two side Notts County is possibly the shock of the summer transfer window. Suleiman Al Fahim wants Maradona to become a 'global ambassador' to the club.

"What I think is that he should be president of a club and have the right to buy and choose players."

Elano: You be the Judge

Never Captain Nicky Butt 12 June @ 07:17 PM EST
The jury is still out on Brazilian midfielder Elano. From a fantasy footballing perspective, the Manchester City playmaker had a superb season statistically in 2007-2008 (under Sven) but dropped off a bit under Mark Hughes this past season. And with The Confederations Cup kicking off this weekend, I've been checking out Brazil's recent results and noticed that Elano is a fixture in Brazil's starting eleven week in and week out in World Cup Qualifying alongside Kaka. What Next for Sven?

Sanford's Soccer Net 08 April @ 08:19 AM EST

The Mexican media started to turn on Eriksson after Mexico could only scrape through the penultimate World Cup qualifying round on goal difference ahead of Jamaica.

They were further inflamed when the Swede selected four naturalised "foreign players" - the Argentines Matias Vuoso and Lucas Ayala and the Brazilian duo Leandro Augusto and Antonio Nelson - for the friendly against Sweden in January.
