Panama clinched Central America's third and final berth for CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying with a 1-1
draw against Costa Rica. The two met Nov. 3 at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa
Rica. Panama won 3-2 on aggregate after a 2-1 win in the first leg at home in Panama City Oct.

Honduras and El Salvador round out the group of qualifiers from Central America.
Panama grabbed a 2-1 lead over Costa Rica following the first leg of the Central American playoff
for the region's third and last berth in the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying finals. Costa Rica will
return home to Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela on Nov. 3 for the second leg.
Both teams are looking to join fellow Central American neighbors El Salvador and Honduras, as well
as automatic qualifiers Canada, Mexico and the United States in next year's eight-team finals.
Panama and Costa Rica will go head-to-head twice over the next two weeks to determine which country
will join the U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team in CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying. The aggregate
winner joins El Salvador and Honduras as the third and final team from Central America in the
qualifying tournament.
Today CONCACAF World Cup qualifying starts for 19 more national associations in the confederation,
with matches going on from Toronto to Georgetown. (Or is Paramaribo further south?) This post will
be updated throughout the day with results and events as they come in, but I'll be working so it
will be more of a semi-live blog.
Hopes for a detailed preview went out of the window thanks to business matters, and with the first
qualifiers kicking off in a little over an hour right now there won't be much time for an in-depth
analysis. Nevertheless, here is a look at the six groups and my expectations for how things will
shake out.

U.S. U-20 MNT forward Bobby Wood has lived the teenage soccer player's dream. Having a
successful trial at 13 years old and moving to Europe at 14, Wood has made a home at 1860 Munich
and graduated to the first team this season. He was called into a camp with U-20 coach Thomas
Rongen in April 2010, and has been a mainstay ever since.
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala (March 29, 2011) – The U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team opened its
CONCACAF U-20 Championship campaign with a 4-0 win against Suriname at Estadio Nacional Mateo
Flores in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Four different U.S. players scored, with Conor Doyle leading
the offense with a goal and two assists, Kelyn Rowe netted a goal and an assist and Bobby Wood and
Joe Gyau each added a goal.
CONCACAF U20: Suriname v United States
The USMNT under-20 team faces Suriname in a CONCACAF game. Philadelphia Union players Amobi
Okugo and Zac MacMath are expected to start, with Okugo possibly receiving the captain's armband.

The United States Under-20 national team begins its quest to book a summer trip to the U-20
World Cup in Colombia tonight with its opening match of the CONCACAF championships against Suriname
(8 p.m, ESPN3.com/ESPN Deportes).
Thomas Rongen's charges will face Panama on April 2 in its other group-stage match before
potentially advancing to the quarterfinals, where the winners all qualify for the World Cup.
Today the U.S. had its final training session before tomorrow's opening match against Suriname
and took its first look at Estadio Nacional Mateo Flores. The surface looks good and the stands are
ready to be filled.
With the U.S. playing right before host Guatemala tomorrow, we're expecting a decent crowd for
tomorrow's match, but it might not fill in until late in the game.
On day two, the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team has settled into Guatemala City, getting their first
training under their belts at a nearby stadium.
With the opening match against Suriname just three days away now, the team is sharpening a few
things here and there and focusing on tactics as much as anything else.
As mentioned on Feb. 11, the U.S. U-20 MNT learned its opponents for the 2011 CONCACAF U-20
Championship to be held in Guatemala.
Earlier today, CONCACAF released the schedule of matches for the tournament, which will see the USA
open its tournament against Suriname on March 29 at 8 p.m. ET.
While the U-17s get set to travel to their CONCACAF championship, the U-20s learned their opponents
for THEIR regional championship. Thomas Rongen's team will play Panama and Suriname in Group B
action, and then cross over with Group A for the all-important quarterfinal. Group A includes
Guatemala, Jamaica and Honduras, who all have their own World Cup aspirations.
In Guatemala City today, the draw for the CONCACAF U-20 World Cup qualifying took place and the US
was drawn into Group B with Panama and Suriname.

The U.S. U-20 national team has learned its foes for the upcoming CONCACAF Championship, which
will determine which four teams from the federation reach this summer's U-20 World Cup in
Colombia.
The United States will take on Panama and Suriname in Group B.
Last year may have been a World Cup year, but even though we have three and a half years until
the big show returns, we have a number of smaller World Cups coming in 2011. There's the Women's
World Cup and U-17 World Cup in June, and the U-20 World Cup (aka, our peek at the talent for 2014)
comes along in August.
