Timber Joey will be there, but he's helping put trees in the ground, not cutting them down to
celebrate goals.

Timbers. While the contract terms and numbers aren't released, the rules of MLS contracts did
provide the Timbers some financial benefits that potentially helped them in the signing of Kris
Boyd, a striker from Scotland.
The end of the calendar year brings a close to 2011, the first season of the Portland Timbers
participating in MLS. It's been an incredible, magical, frustrating, exhilarating ride, and I can't
wait for 2012 to get going and the team take back to the pitch.
Major League Soccer announced their 2012 schedule format for both the regular season and playoffs,
and I think they've achieved a delicate balance between cutting travel costs and impact with
ensuring that each club plays each other in a somewhat balanced schedule.

least one team controls their destiny.
The Portland Timbers didn't play the best soccer against the Vancouver Whitecaps on August 20, but
they took advantage of opportunities and gutted out a 2 to 1 win over their Canadian Cascadian
rivals. Coach John Spencer called the win "a real test of character", but the Timbers can't rest on
their laurels with a midweek match against Chivas USA looming.
Pre-match festivities at the Portland Timbers - Vancouver Whitecaps match on August 20 will include
a special ceremony involving representatives of Harper's Playground and the Timbers Army. The
Timbers Army will present proceeds from the sale of a commemorative scarf to Harper's Playground to
benefit their efforts to build an all-accessible playground in North Portland.
A strange night in Kansas City didn't help the Portland Timbers in their quest for the 2011 MLS
playoffs, as Sporting Kansas City rode two goals by Graham Zusi to a 3 to 1 win over the Timbers.
There was a delay during the match as Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen was injured by
a fan thrown projectile, but he remained in the match after receiving treatment.
Before the Portland Timbers took on Toronto FC on July 30, some of their vocal supporters, the
Timbers Army, took time to help out an elementary school in need. James John Elementary in St.
John's is revamping their play area with some help from various organizations, including Depave, AC
Portland, adidas, and the Portland Timbers.
There's plenty going on this weekend for the Portland Timbers, but even more going on for the

We turn the focus from the community efforts of the Portland Timbers to the efforts of their
supporters group, the Timbers Army. The group has a history of providing support where needed, and
with two new initiatives just announced, they will continue this legacy of giving back.
The Portland Timbers faced their Cascadia rivals, the Seattle Sounders, on July 10 hoping to break
their losing streak and send the Sounders faithful hope disappointed. After taking a 2 to 1 lead
late in the second half, however, the Timbers defense failed to hold the lead, and the Sounders
scored two goals late to pull out a 3 to 2 victory in front of a packed JELD-WEN Field.

viewing party at 5:30 PM tonight, organized by the Timbers Army of SW Washington (Northern
Alliance).
The Portland Timbers sponsored their second annual Bowl For A Goal on June 17 at Grand Central
Bowl. Benefiting Big Brothers, Big Sisters Columbia Northwest, the event gave fans the chance to
bowl with a Timbers player and also bid on some one of a kind Timbers gear. It also gave them the
opportunity to interact with the players in a casual, fun environment and judging by the smiles all
around, the charities weren't the only things that won this night.
Catching up from the weekend that was for the Timbers: another frustrating night on the road for
the First Team, a heartbreaking loss at home for the Timbers U-23 versus a feisty rival, and a draw

break from matches until June 21, the First Team hosts Colorado on June 11 while the U-23 team

Tacoma 2 to 0 behind Miles Byass' two goals. The Reserves played Seattle on May 30, but lost 2 to 0
on two late goals.

The first ever Cascadia Cup match in MLS history ended in a 1-all draw played in front of more than
36,000 fans at Qwest Field in Seattle, WA. The Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders played a
spirited match that had some interesting moments and plenty of back-and-forth play, but in the end,
the rivals could only muster one goal each to earn the draw.
Ten years ago it would have been difficult to imagine 500 supporters heading up I-5 to watch the
Timbers play Seattle Sounders.
It's just over 24 hours before the very first Cascadia Cup match in MLS history, as the Portland
Timbers travel to Seattle to face their long time rival Seattle Sounders FC. The two clubs have
face each other over 60 times in their long soccer history, producing some incredible moments over
the years.
There was plenty of news for the Timbers this weekend, from their thrilling 1 to 0 win over
Philadelphia, the unveiling of the Timbers Jet at Portland International Airport, and the return of
the Timbers U-23 team. However, things will get to be more interesting this weekend as the team
prepares to visit Seattle on May 14 to visit their long time rivals Seattle Sounders FC.
The Portland Timbers faced the San Jose Earthquakes in the second round play in match to qualify
for the U.S. Open Cup tournament later this summer. The Timbers gave some of their youthful players
a chance to show their skills in front of the home fans, and for almost 120 minutes they were up
for the challenge.
The Portland Timbers put their three game unbeaten streak on the line April 23 versus the Los
Angeles Galaxy, and had high hopes for a positive result. Unfortunately, Landon Donovan found his
scoring touch, and the Galaxy attack confused the Timbers defense. There is optimism with a win on
April 24 by the Timbers Reserve Team against the Galaxy Reserves.
The Timbers are on the road this weekend, where will you be watching the match?

The Portland Timbers celebrated their home opener in style, and the team didn't disappoint in
playing their most complete match of the 2011 season. Behind two goals from forward Jorge Perlaza,
an inspired defensive effort, a lazer shot from Rodney Wallace and a crazy own goal from Chicago,
the Timbers beat the Fire 4 to 2.
Rick Curwen, community bloggerThe view that TA season ticket holders will get as they approach the
field. I took these photos at the Jeld-Wen Field Open Night. My grandson is involved in tonight's
pre-match ceremony and was at the field...
I have to admit that the 2011 Timbers media day had me rather excited, because not only was the day
a chance to see the team prepare for the home opener on April 14 versus Chicago, but it gave many a
firsthand look at the significant changes in the grounds. While pictures may display the depth of
some changes, I can honestly say they don't do the updates complete justice.
With my wife and I celebrating our anniversary for a few days, there's been plenty of Timbers news
around before the home opener so I provide some recaps to the big events. I'm pleased about the
improved play and the potential for something special when the team opens JELD-WEN Field on April
14 for their first ever MLS home match.

but no members from the D-2 NASL.
I was able to witness practice for the Portland Timbers on February 12, highlighted with more
fitness drills, intense physical play during a scrimmage, and the appearance of forward Kenny
Cooper. I also noticed a team that has improved greatly in their chemistry and passion, even if the
fitness wasn't quite there.
