Revs Try to Get Back on Track

0

After being upset on Tuesday at Gillette Stadium by an embarrassing 4-0 score line to Joe Public F.C. -- the fifth place team in Trinidad and Tobago's Pro League -- and missing out on the Group Stage of the CONCACAF Champions League as a result, the New England Revolution have a chance to regain some respect and first place with a much needed win in Columbus Saturday.

MLS teams unsuccessful in the CONCACAF Champions League - N.Y Times article

3
Here is a link to an article written in the New York Times about how the New England Revolution and Chivas USA were knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions League at the preliminary round stage and they won't make the final 16 of the competition. At the end of the article the writer Jack Bell asks questions about whether the MLS teams are playing too many games, or whether the other clubs were better then they were originally given credit for. Soccer Night in America (and its territories)

2
I barely get into the house and it's 1-1 in the Open Cup final. Luciano Emilio scores for DC, and gets hurt. Charleston responds in the 10th minute with a nice finish after some sloppy defending. We have ourselves a match, ladies and gentlemen.

I bet Charleston would've done better in the CONCACAF Champions League than New England did. Click to continue reading...

Fueling the national team?

1
Okay, I know league and international team aren't necessarily one in the same. You can have a strong national team but a crappy league, it's possible.

But does the Joe Public-New England score mean the US national team should worry for their match against Trinidad & Tobago on Sept. 10?

I mean, come on, how many of you predicted a lopsided rout in the Joe Public-Revolution match? Click to continue reading...

Goat Hunting

1

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm in the middle of moving into residence at York University, which means that this preview is going to be a little shorter than I would like it to be.

Tonight marks the opening match of a home and home series with Chivas USA. Unfortunately for TFC, a home and home includes a road game.

CONCAF Champions League To Be Leading Cause of "Tournamet Fatigue" in America By 2009

3
Good morning to ya. I'm sitting here reading my morning emails and an Outlook reminder has just popped up telling me to set the DVR to record the opening matches of CONCACAF Champions League, which begins tomorrow night. So when I get home tonight and grab the remote to set up the recording I will hear my missus say something to the effect of "another week, another tournament. Click to continue reading...

Roller coaster continues

2
Despite knocking on wood as often as possible, I hate to admit that I called this. DC United was consistently crappy early in the year, and was consistently victorious just before the start of Superliga, but at all other times of the season, we've been horribly inconsistent. The team once again failed tonight to string together victories. Click to continue reading...

Midweek Preview: SuperLiga Clubs Clash

0
I guess the monkey wrench in the 2008 MLS schedule was this week. We all knew these four clubs would be in SuperLiga and that their summer schedule would be a little funky. Well, this is the week they try to catch up with the rest of the league in terms of games played in [...] Click to continue reading...

MLS and the Mexican Federation: A Beautiful Friendship

1

Rafa Marquez and his mates play as many games in the US as on Mexican Soil these days/ Photo from esmas.com

Many I speak to wonder sometime quietly why the Mexican National Team seem to play all its friendlies on US soil and not in its home country. These same people wonder what affect this has on the US National Team, as their big rival often plays to bigger and more vocal crowds.

Diego's little daughter Giannina (left) got knocked up, by longtime boyfriend and Atletico Madrid superstar forward Sergio Aguero (middle).

Fortunately for the young Argentine, the legend (right) didn't seem very upset:
According to the Argentinean press, Diego Maradona has confessed to his fellow "showbol": "Boys, I will be a grandfather.

U.S. Women Lose Olympic Opener & More

The biggest surprise in this game might be that Lawndale's Kei Kamara actually found the net for Houston. The second biggest surprise: so did Houston's Nate Jaqua, the former goal-averse Galaxy forward.

The attendance without any Mexican teams involved in the final: just 9,232

*From the (edited) Galaxy press release:

reserve goalkeeper Charles Alamo and midfielder Michael Gavin each suffered serious injuries in Sunday night's reserve game in San Jose (a 1-0 loss) and will miss extended periods of time.

Tony's Take: Bouncing back, moving head

1

Everybody pretty much agrees that the regular season in MLS is a little bit long. There are so many ups and downs that it's difficult to maintain maximum focus every time you step on the field. In short, there are very few (if any) critical regular season MLS matches played in August: except maybe for this past weekend at R.

Dynamo 2, Crew 0: A Supporter's View

The Houston Dynamo lost to the New England Revolution in the SuperLiga final on Tuesday night, but that setback didn't overshadow the fact that the defending MLS Cup champions are rounding into form at just the right time in MLS play.

Houston's 2-0 win over a quality Columbus squad showed just how well the Dynamo is playing as it moves toward its rightful place atop the West standings.

New England wins SuperLiga as bonus squabble looms

The 2008 SuperLiga Tournament came to a close in dramatic fashion on Tuesday night as New England defeated the Houston Dynamo on penalty kicks. Noonan Resigned, Trade To Columbus Soon?

The day after their SuperLiga win over the Houston Dynamo, the New England Revolution look to resign Pat Noonan...only to then trade him to Columbus, that's all according to the Boston Herald's Kyle McCarthy. The Crew are expected to send allocation money, a first-round draft pick and the rights to swap allocation slots to the Revs [. Click to continue reading...

SuperLiga Champions!

A couple of defensive mistakes from the New England forced them to come from behind in both regulation and extra time, but the Revs fought back both times and eventually took the match to penalty kicks. Once there the team fell behind again, but this time came back and after 8 rounds emerged victorious 6-5 to claim the SuperLiga Championship. Click to continue reading...

SuperLiga Final Reaction - If a Tree Falls In Gillette Stadium . . .

5
Well, that certainly didn't feel much like a cup final--more like a mid- to late-season MLS game with some playoff implications. There were some really nice passages of play, but also a fair amount of thuggish Neanderthal-ball , as well as some truly awful crossing that made the crosses that connected for the Revs' first and Houston's second look divine by comparison.
