"You are just on loan Dave..."
A SALARY CAP FAR, FAR
AWAYIn the most uneventful (in a good way) pre-season of Toronto FC's history, we can't help but gaze
into the distance at our next meaningful opponent, LA Galaxy. In one of the shrewdest moves in MLS
governance, Galaxy persuaded the league to allow them to use Mexican Pesos as their salary cap
currency.
After winning MLS Cup, earning a place in the Champions League and become the MLS equivalent of a
SuperClub, the LA Galaxy had questions to answer at the end of 2011.
The possible departures of David Beckham, Juninho and the confirmed loss of Donovan Ricketts raised
questions. Add to that the threat of extend loans from Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, the Galaxy
had quiet cause for concern.

Doesn't vehement hatred get kind of boring after a while? I mean, sure, if you want to let a
little schadenfreude and anger out a couple of times a year, that's fine. Everyone's entitled to
their fair share of irrational fandom. Maybe I'm not as creative as the Spanish press and [insert
name of your Superclub]'s fans, but hatred gets kind of circular after a while.
Cause for concern? We got it. Right here in River City. And it's a much bigger problem than a
pool table, I fear.
A couple of disclaimers before we get started, because discourse has gotten so terrible that you
have to explain yourself because people love to project their own issues with the team onto
them.

As Arsenal captain, even your hair has to be neat
Two things got me to write this topic today. First, I'm at the moment in the middle of reading
Alex Flynn's "Arsènal The Making of a Modern Superclub" and I'm currently at the chapter which
speaks about the behaviour of a certain William Gallas after the 2-2 draw at Birmingham.

Still only 19 years old, Neymar, alongside his agent and his club, persistently fought transfer
talk throughout the summer transfer window, but ultimately he stayed in Brazil. Could he be playing
every Sunday in front of hundreds of millions of viewers right now?

Any Arsenal fan will tell you that the last few seasons have been tough. They
will need no reminding that the last trophy the club won was back in 2005. However the start of
this season led to more than a few whispers that perhaps Arsène Wenger wasn't the
right man for the club.
Joel Lindpere is in form. With the 5-0 win over Toronto FC, the New York Red Bulls reaffirmed the
belief that they have the potential to be an MLS Superclub. In recent weeks, MLS fans have seen New
York drop points in draws that they should have won.
The Red Bulls have encountered many speed bumps this season, the most recent of which were the
losses of personnel to the Gold Cup.
The two most popular and perhaps most powerful leagues in the world are The English Premier League
and the Spanish La Liga. Aside from millions of dollars and sports friendly geography, these two
leagues have something very interesting in common: they each have the dreaded "Superclub". In fact,
the EPL has several: Manchester United, Chelsea FC, and Arsenal FC.
