I was watching MNF last night and they were interviewing a coach from one of the games Sunday.
The coach said a couple things I thought were important and thus will share them.
He said that each of his players expects excellence from themselves. The individual players work
their butts off so they can better themselves as players and contribute to the best of their
abilities to the team.

Because with live in a world of litigation and because people get all bent out of shape over the
smallest things (that could easily be explained) and because litigation takes forever and lawyers
are expensive (otherwise they wouldn't bother to take forever) and because you can get any kind of
suspension lifted while you're waiting for an appeal it appears that Chelsea can do business as
usual since the Court of Arbitration for Sport won't be able to set a date for a hearing until
February.

Have you voted today?
You did? That's "super"!
Wait, you didn't? You forgot? Again?
Eh, that's supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
Well, not really.
Ironically, "super" is the worst adjective in the dictionary. Its various definitions are simply
too diverse to be sloppily thrown into one word.

News outlets out of Tampa are reporting that Malcolm Glazer is looking for a buyer for his National
Football League team. The Glazer family have owned the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 1995, moving them
into a state of the art stadium and winning the 2002 Super Bowl. Glazer completed his takeover of
Manchester United in 2005.

ESPN's SportsNation has spoken in regards to what the average american sports fan thinks about
soccer, and it certainly seems like this past summer has increased the interest level of our
game-
Which is more likely in the next 10 years?
Cubs win the World Series - 40%
Danica wins the Indy 500 - 37%

Ralph Vacchiano of The Daily News is tweeting that David Tyree has been cut from the New York
Giants. It makes sense for the Giants, who are looking to rebuild their receiving corps, to give
the last wide receiver slot to younger players after Tyree, 29, spent all of last year injured and,
by all accounts, had a horrible pre-season.

The man who owns the New England Patriots gridiron franchise has revealed that he thinks investing
in English football just doesn't make sense in the absence of a salary cap.
Liverpool came very close to being owned by another American businessman a few years ago, but
Robert Kraft, a man who has overseen the resurgence of the New England Patriots in the NFL over the
last decade, didn't buy the club because he felt that there were too many flaws with the way
football was run in England to make it worthwhile.

The MLS Cup is the annual championship game of Major League Soccer. It's the young league's
"Super Bowl" and the determining factor in who is remembered as MLS Champion. Of course, almost
every other soccer league in the world picks its champion based on the regular season records
(which determines MLS's Supporters Shield title).

The National Football League is thinking about doing the unthinkable, playing the Super Bowl in a
foreign country as early 2016.
It appears that talks have started between London and the league. So maybe there is something
possible. This season the NFL is going to play regular season games in three different countries:
United States, Canada, and England.

A Super Bowl in London? The idea apparently has some legs with the BBC reporting that the NFL is in
talks with the city of London to host a Super Bowl at Wembley. If England is to host the greatest
single-day sporting event in American sports, then Europe should do us the courtesy of sending
their showpiece event over here.

I've been asked by a lot of people what I think will happen during the Super Bowl tomorrow. So I
thought I'd blog it:
Radio Nowhere
Something off Working On A Dream (maybe My Lucky Day)
The Promised Land
Born To Run
Oh, you mean the game? The Giants aren't in, so who cares?

Sounds ominous, I now ... but I'm just talking about the beginning of the end of the month,
here. It's been a frozen, snowy January - in fact I can't remember the last time I saw bare
ground here in NH. Not that I'm complaining. So long as it's mostly snow (as opposed to
ice) [...]

Allow me to preface this post by stating for the record, that 1. I am a fan of American football,
and 2. I am upset that my favorite NFL team, the New England Patriots, fell short of the playoffs
this season, despite winning 11 games. So let's consider the air cleared before I launch into this
mini-tirade.

How did New York win the Super Bowl? They peaked at the end of their season, going into the
playoffs. That's a different sport, of course, but it's a good lesson to remember: to win a title,
you have to finish strong. And so far, the Rapids are doing just that.
It's hard to say that the Rapids don't have momentum right now.

Apparently this parody was first done earlier this year just before the Super Bowl.
But this version will resonate more with long-suffering Galaxy fans.
Check it out before the video Gods take it away. (Caution: lots of naughty words).

D.C United won the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night by narrowly defeating the Charleston Battery
from the United States Soccer League's First Division 2-1. More coverage can be obtained by
clicking on this link as there is a story by Sports Illustrated.
As I've said before and I'll say it again, this Cup competition should be given a much more
prestigious ranking within the world of United States soccer.

We've got some more quick updates and prognostications about tomorrow's USWNT match with Japan -
first, from Japanese coach Norio Sasaki, who is full of confidence after Japan's run through Group
G. It may prove to be a sad irony of the Olympics, however, that Japan's stellar play, particularly
against Norway, may be the [.

We can finally count on a bit more space in US newspapers to cover MLS and Olympic soccer now that
the mystery of American football star Brett Favre's future has been solved. Instead of playing for
the Green Bay Packers (or some other team), it seems he has been disguised as Americana singer
Shawn Mullins.

Okay, we get it. Spain has lots of good sportsmen. Point made. First you go off and win Euro 2008,
then you win Wimbledon, now a Spaniard has won the Tour de France for the third straight year. What
next, are the Barcelona Dragons going to win the Super Bowl and these guys going to win [...]

Sometimes American sportswriters do not get it, but at least one of them does: PTI co-host Mike
Wilbon
During Monday shows Wilbon and co-host Bob Ryan were talking about their top five moments in sports
during the last year. All of the regular moments were talked about including the Super Bowl, Final
Four, and the events Sunday at The All England Club.

Putting your hands on a major trophy is something that all athletes live for but in some sports
they hand out of the trophy in a better way then most. In the United States, when a team wins a
major trophy like the Super Bowl or the NBA Finals, they roll out a stage on wheels and present the
trophy to the captain of the team.
