Sunderland fans would have been fearing the worst when the Wearside club had only amassed 11 points
from 13 games in the Premier League and were sitting at a dismal 16th after a disappointing 2-1
loss at home to bottom ...

tBG on Roker Report: Telling Sunderland Fans About Michael Farfan
I wrote a piece for SB Nation Sunderland site Roker Report about Michael Farfan's training
period with the team.

Peruse the Sunderland fan forums and you'll find quite a few optimistic fans. Despite our brilliant
form of late, following our defeat against Stoke, Sunderland's win against Blackburn and the
appointment of Martin O'Neill, a few of the Sunderland fans genuinely think they will win this
match and that
"Spurs ain't all that" and
"we've just been built up by sky and the media
into thinking we're something we're not".

When Asamoah Gyan arrived at Sunderland for a club record £13 million fee, it seemed like the
dawn of a new era for both club and player. However, the new era has become true only in the case
of the player, while Sunderland are back where they were under Roy Keane – struggling at the
wrong end of the table.
After over 12 months out of the game, Martin O'Neill has returned to Premier League management
after signing a three year contract with Sunderland, the team he supported as boy.
For many and certainly for Sunderland fans, it is the perfect appointment, O'Neill has long
since been recognised as one of the great football managers of recent times and has always improved
the standing of any club he has been in charge of.
Sunderland have sacked manager Steve Bruce after a string of poor results the club have confirmed
Wednesday evening. The news has come somewhat as a shock to many Sunderland fans as well as fans
from across the country as the first Premier League managerial casualty this season is claimed.
After a bad run of results [.
Brucie bye-bye Steve Bruce has been sacked as manager of struggling Sunderland. The Black Cats have
picked up just two wins in 13 games this season. Odds on Bruce becoming the first Premier League
manager to lose his job this season shortened dramatically on Sunday evening, prompting reports
that he knew he would lose his [.
Commemorative Newcastle bitter tastes sweet to rivals
Sunderland fans are loving this name of a new beer, intended to commemorate Mike Ashley's
ridiculous rebranding of Newcastle's ground. They say 'St James' Park Bitter' sums up their local
rivals perfectly – and also point out that a Kevin Keegan brew would soon lose its head, an Alan
Shearer pint would slip down easily and a pint of Ashley ale would sell out within minutes.

Sunderland 2-2 Aston Villa Premier League 29th October 2011
Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish was left frustrated after watching his side twice throw away a
lead, with Sunderland's Stephane Sessegnon ultimately nodding home a late equaliser to give
Sunderland a share of the points.
Here is just a quick thought to keep us going as frankly, we all wait for tomorrow.
In two hours Wales boot off against France, and just before the starting gun sounds, we will
hear the whole of Wales joining in a round of "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau", or to some "Land of our
Fathers", and what a rallying anthem it is.

Jordan Henderson should not be targeted by Sunderland's boo boys when they play Liverpool,
according to Kenny Dalglish.
Liverpool moved quickly to sign the midfielder in the close season, sealing a £20million deal for
his services.
At just 20, Henderson had become a feature of Steve Bruce's midfield and had earned himself an
England cap.

Sunderland set to gain a Brucey bonus? We live at a time in which constant improvements are deemed
necessities. More reliable cars, faster computers, cheaper travel. And football, as with so many of
our national traits, displays these demands palpably. After promotion we expect survival. After
survival consolidation.

Whilst still struggling to the cope with the loss of John O'Shea and Wes Brown to Sunderland,
we've had a chat with Collin Randall from the excellent Mackem blog, Salut Sunderland, about their
new signings.

Not bad for a day's work Sunderland have, as of a few hours ago, officially wrapped up three
pretty decent signings, with Wes Brown and John O'Shea putting pen to paper after serving for a
combined total of 28 years with Manchester United, and ex-Blackpool terrier David Vaughan
arriving on a freebie with four-year, four-year and three-year deals agreed respectively.

We are getting towards the business end of the season, and today's frantic, hard fought derby
matches will be tough going for the viewer in more ways than one. Derby games in the winter months
aren't pretty. But one thing they usually are is action packed. Although, Villa and Blues played
out a more than mild first-half earlier today, the game kicked in to life in the second period with
both sides taking a point.
Kevin Nolan has been a little surprised by the level of animosity between Newcastle and Sunderland
fans in the region. Newcastle fans - who couldn't love this lot? Kevin feels that animosity is
worse than it is between Liverpool and Everton fans, where he grew up in Liverpool. This is what
Kevin said today: "I [.
The Incredible CaulkFor years the North East was described as a football hotbed. Given the recent lack of major success
for our football clubs many fans from outside the region would suggest a sickbed would be a more
befitting comparison. But football is still thriving on Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside - and at
the forefront of that is our football reporting.
