In probably the most unexpected development of the domestic league's fourteenth round, River Plate
played with spirit and intelligence to overturn a deficit and actually win a football match on
Sunday afternoon. 1-0 down after only two-and-a-half minutes at home to Atlético Tucumán, it
looked like the same old story for River.

Always expect the unexpected when it comes to the Superclasico. Only two goals were scored in the
three regular season meetings between Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy (both by the Galaxy),
but in the first leg of the first round playoff matchup between the two Home Depot Center tenants,
both teams found the back of the net twice on Sunday afternoon, albeit it on strange circumstances.

No Moore. No Malcolm. No Tiatto. No Miller. It was always going to be a stringent test of
Brisbane's resources.
And yet they acquitted themselves not too badly, on the whole. Although they were plainly
outclassed in midfield for much of the game, and had every reason to let their heads drop after the
injury to Reinaldo, they made a real fight of the game in the final twenty minutes, and perhaps
deserved to equalise.

It's gearing up to be a very interesting Sunday afternoon of football, with Liverpool and United
meeting before we take a trip east to face West Ham, opponents we haven't exactly thrived against
in recent years. In fact, some of the games have become infamous, the 1-0 defeat that saw Wenger
and Pardew nearly come to blows, and a 3-2 reverse where Sol Campbell jumped ship at half time.

Next up it's a trip to the Boleyn Ground on Sunday afternoon in the League against the ‘Appy
‘Ammers. We need three points there if we're to keep up our challenge for the title. We need to
put Tuesday night's disappointing draw in the Netherlands firmly behind us, EXCEPT to learn the
lessons of conceding another silly goal.

In a game with few chances on either side, LA Galaxy keeper Donovan Ricketts made enough big plays
to deny the Houston Dynamo in a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Robertson Stadium. For the fifth
straight MLS game, Houston finished with 10 men, as Brian Ching was sent off in the 84th
minute.
David Beckham's celebrity probably helped account for the season-high crowd of 29,470 that nearly
filled Robertson today.

If the Wizards want to make the playoffs this year, they're likely going to have to win out. Sure
they are only 6 points out at the moment, but with so many other teams between them and the 8th
playoff spot, KC is going to likely need to grab all 12 available remaining points to get into the
post season.

There is a caveat to this post: we don't have it near as bad as Red Bull fans have it. True,
they have a new stadium coming, but that team is a disaster from top to bottom, with little hope of
immediate recovery. Now that I've cleared that up, this is a bad time to be a United fan.
The breadth of this experience was on display Sunday afternoon.

1) Various records to watch for:
- Eric Avila has made 16 subs without a start. Needs four more in the final five games to break

- The worst Supporters Shield winners in MLS history were the 2004 Columbus Crew at 1.633 PPG.
