Zambia cruised past Sudan, 3-0 to the semi-finals of the ACN, the first time since 1996. Sudan
made things difficult for themselves after Ali Saif Eldin was sent off for his second violation
when he brought down Rainford Kalaba in the 63rd minute. By that time the Chipolopolos (The Copper
Miners) were already a goal up from Sunzu Stoppila.
One of the most pleasing aspects of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations was that two co-hosts,
Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, have both managed to qualify for the Quarter Finals... Gabon in
particular have looked an impressive outfit, winning qualification Group C with three wins from
three games, including a 1-0 win over Tunisia which [.
After what we've seen at this year's Africa Cup of Nations it's perhaps a little foolish to talk
in terms of more shocks. Why should we continue to be shocked when our predictions are continually
thrown back in our faces time after time?
Sudan became the latest side to upset the African apple cart when they qualified for the quarter
finals last night.
Sudan's chances in Group B resting on slim hopes were realized yesterday as they beat Burkina
Faso through Mutahdir's brace and an underwhelming Angola lost to Cote D'Ivoire, 0-2. Former
Arsenal full back Emmanuel Eboue gave the Ivoirians the lead and the second goal was a comedy of
errors.

Some good and some bad news for Salomon Kalou today at the Africa Cup of Nations.
We'll start with the good, the real good. Kalou opened the scoring for Côte d'Ivoire in their
2-0 win against Burkina Faso tonight. Peep Sal's excellent volley in visual form below.
The volley was the cherry on the top of what was another fine performance from the rarely used
Chelsea vet.
Another editorial meeting has sadly ended in a fist fight, but never fear, folks! Before the
riot vans arrived and broke up the scratching, hissing, potty mouthed messed rolling around the
office floor, we managed to agree on bringing you intermittent news of the Africa Cup Of
Nations.
This will include, but not be limited to, pictures of semi-naked players, breaking short tent
news, and, if the bail money can be collected in time, the occasional result too.
Two Chelsea team mates conspire for Cote D'Ivoire's winning start to their 2012 ACN campaign.
Salomon Kalou floats the ball from the left as Didier Drobga soars up to power his header. Looks
like 34 year old Drobga still has plenty of oomph - is he really leaving for the Chinese Super
League?
The Ivory Coast scraped through their first Group B game in the African Cup of Nations last night
with a narrow 1-0 win over outsiders Sudan. Cheick Tiote - Newcatsle's star midfielder played 80
minutes last night It was Chelsea striker Didier Drogba who scored the only goal of the game after
39 minutes, when [.
Over the Sunday afternoon's match between Sudan and Ivory Coast was the third match in
succession where one of the goalkeeper's had sported a kit in a horrific shade of purple, making
goalkeeper's look like blueberries and in need of an Oompa Loompa escort to Willie Wonka's juicing
room. It was a lacklustre performance from the Ivory Coast.

Bahrain have won the Gold Medal at the 2011 Pan Arab Games football tournament in Qatar.
Bahrain had qualified for the final by virtue of topping their group in the first stage, gaining
back-to-back wins over host nation Qatar and Iraq, before eliminating Palestine in the semi-final
ahead of yesterday's final match.
One of the curiosities of African football has been the relatively undistinguished performance of
national teams from the east side of the continent. Ethiopia and Sudan may have won continental
titles in 1962 and 1970 but that was before the era when most countries participated, and the
cultural and ethnic make up of those states is quite different from the the cluster of countries
that tends to

The African Nations Championship (or CHAN) is unique amongst international football tournaments
in that nations are restricted to selecting only domestic players in their squads. The 2011 edition
of this tournament begins this week in Sudan with the hosts taking on Gabon in Khartoum.
As the competition only allows the selection of domestically based players the standards of each
respective international side is a little different to "full internationals".
