Got, Not Got: Which was better, Subbuteo or Striker? There's only one way to find
out...
My mate Steve and I would have the same heated debate over and over about the various merits of
Subbuteo versus those of Striker. There were no more salient points to be made, no new evidence, we
just argued out of habit.
Indonesia are hosting the 2011 SEA Games. This tournament features the Under 23 teams from the
ASEAN nations and initially they were to be held in Palembang. But then it was decided that the
stadium there, the Jakabaring, wouldn't be ready on time.
So the whole caboodle was shifted to Jakarta with Bung Karno (capacity 88,000) and Lebak Bulus
(capacity 12,000) sharing the honours.

Meanwhile, at FIFA HQ... Coin Soccer from ZBalge on Vimeo. As if we didn't know the game was all
about money these days. It appears some African boys play out their dreams with a coin on this
remarkable Subbuteo-like table made from wood and nails. For what is a pretty crude piece of kit,

This is the first time I've ever seen coin soccer, which at a glance looks like it could be a Third
World mash up of subbuteo and foosball. Kinda awesome, completely creative. I need one of these.
As many of you, the regular readers know, I've got fond memories of playing Subbuteo as a child
and still have a lot of respect and adoration for the popular table soccer game that was massive in
the late 70s and early 80s, and is still played around the world.
So I was pleased to find a new Subbuteo video recently that I hadn't seen before, which is the
one above that I'd like to share with you.
