Stream of Consciousness: Vancouver Whitecaps vs FC Dallas

Memo to Mark Followill: You don't say "With Dante Washington, I'm Mark Followill". The correct protocol is "With THE GREAT Dante Washington, I'm Mark Followill".

I'll excuse it just this once, Mark.

Raúl Fernández v Joe Cannon is quite the goalkeeping matchup. The final score tonight could very well be a negative number.

It's the Sons of Lamar playing tonight. You never know what's going to happen when FCD and the Crew get together. Last time, it snowed. In Dallas. In the Spring. That was so unlikely it rates just below alien invasion on the 'Likely to Happen' scale. It made for some great photos, however. As would an alien invasion, to be fair.

England v Italy predictions: OTP talks to Terry Venables

Off the Post at related • 0 views
Although the FA are famously allergic to him, Terry Venables remains closely nestled in many an England fans bosom. He was the man who squeezed the last drops of genius out of Paul Gascoigne and almost seduced football to come home at Euro 96. Since that unforgettable summer, the former Spurs manager has never been [.

Once again there is nothing to report from the Lane, so I'm just going to ramble away a little stream of consciousness - by all means duck out now and go youtube a Michael Jackson song or something.

Match Preview: Liverpool v. Wigan, 03.24.12

The Offside - Liverpool at related • 0 views

Liverpool welcome Wigan to Anfield for their second match against a relegation-threatened side in four days after their late collapse at QPR on Wednesday. The Latics can't quite nudge their way out of the drop with a win, but they can at least draw level on points with the side that condemned Liverpool to their fourth league defeat in five matches.

The final throw of the dice is here. 90 minutes left in the season, and very few teams with something still left to play for. It's been a great Premier League season, but we only have one more weekend to savor before we turn our attention to The World Cup.
Who deserves to win the title?

2009 Gold Cup: US Survive Stormy Semifinal

Soccer Tickets Online at related • 3 views

Last night, the United States took on Honduras in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup Semifinal @ the historic Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. Prior to the game, the murky weather dampened many Sam's Army members' clothes as they gathered inside the stadium. But, it didn't appear to dampen their spirit or their ability to encourage the US team, both of which were in full force as usual.

Negativity Reigns

The Offside - Arsenal at related • 0 views

Just some brief thoughts today in lieu of any actual news to report on:

The big thing is that everyone just seems all negative-d out. A sizeable minority booed the team off the pitch after Saturday's listless 0-0 draw. Twitter is always a haven for negativity, but it's been so bad the previous couple of days that it has become the dominant story of the day.

Just Football's World Cup 2010 Team of the Tournament is a post from: Just Football

Yes it's that time of the tournament again (i.e. the end) where we look back and assess what was. With the 2010 World Cup now over it is time for me to name my team of the tournament. I'll admit I'm a bit of a geek when it comes to World Cup teams of the tournament, I've jotted down a best XI on the back of some grotty old receipt or used envelope for every World Cup since about 1998 if I remember rightly, meticulously drawing up a shortlist of players and then combing them down to a final eleven.

Inferno

10 million people in the New York Metropolitan area, and this brand-spanking new, state-of-the art Red Bull stadium is half full. This makes me want to say bad words. At least the supporters group behind the goal (where a supporters group should be, in my view) is really loud and well-organized. Of course that just reminds me of how much I really miss standing with the Inferno on a regular basis.

Steam of Consciousness: Houston vs FC Dallas

I wish I was more excited about opening day. It used to be I'd actually be nervous before the home opener; today I took a nap. I didn't even start writing this until the 23rd minute, because nothing happened to take note of. Except the Inferno are stuck in the corner, like an impertinent child (back when you could stick a kid in the corner without risking arrest and civil action), and there's a strange row of people with yellow cards next to them, for a reason I can't really fathom.

Look everyone has a rough day at The Office now and then. (Ouch...)

With Jamaica riding two free kicks to victory Friday night in the Caribbean, it's up to the USA to author their own Redemption Song Tuesday in Columbus. The arrangement tonight was sour for the States to the tune of a 2-1 loss to the Reggae Boyz who celebrated their country's national independence by liberating Jamaica from its winless streak against the visitors.

Yippee ki yay, it's almost time for uncomfortable conversations with in-laws or morosely sitting and wishing you had in-laws to have uncomfortable conversations with. Either way, the liquor companies win. And meanwhile nobody knows what the hell is going on with the Boxing Day match against the Seasiders, stuck as they are by the blustery North Sea or Black Sea or Salton Sea or whatever.

Right, well this stoopid weather has finally caught up with me. I am stricken with some kind of horrendous plague which has me feeling like shit and unable to sleep. Hence the reason I'm sitting here at 5.12am writing this.

And I know it's not necessarily the weather's fault. It's people with their germs and microbes and sneezing without covering their mouths and coughing their guts up leaving a hazy cloud of bacteria to walk into and so forth meaning whatever pestilence they had I know have it and frankly people ought to just die.

Let's get the Dean Windass jokes out of the way and get right to some fantasy footie. I'm going to stray from our usual format this week and instead end the fantasy footie season in a stream of consciousness style...Â
I apologize but there is just too much on my professional/personal plate this evening to delve deeply into the top matches of the week and preview this week's results and tactics - so instead I'll stick with a longer version of our usual "Studs and Duds" section as the main body of work.
