Rights Controlled Players

Sounder at Heart - Soccer From the Heart of the Sound 10 November @ 12:05 AM EST

In Major League Soccer a team can control the rights to a player even if they are unsigned. Below you will see capsules of the players for which the Sounders control their rights, but who did not see much time, nor are they under contract for 2010.

These are players who for one reason or another the Sounders will not likely use for their next season, but who might have minor value to other teams in the league.

Arsenal TShirt Shop - Finally Sorted (I hope)

LadyArse - Arsenal and the world of football from a woman's perspective @ OleOl 06 November @ 03:49 PM EST

Rite, I think I have this shop business sorted out. I'll still be selling all the designs as transfers on eBay and a limited number of Tshirts there too, but as I'm not rich I couldn't afford to have all the designs on TShirts in stock, hence the need for a shop which will print them for me.

Energie Cottbus: Bahnübergang

Bundesliga Blog 04 November @ 12:31 PM EST

Looking Out for Number One? (UPDATED)

The Offside - Arsenal 23 October @ 10:41 AM EST

So almost without us (or me, anyway) even realizing it, we appear to possibly have a goalkeeping controversy on our hands.

After Manuel Almunia went down a few games into the season with a "chest infection", and last season's number two, Lukasz Fabianski, was also out with a long term injury, we had to hand the gloves over to young Italian Vito Mannone.

Arsenal sent Tony Adams on Saturday to the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium to Romulu Lukaku to scout. The former England international would not confirm that he was specifically there for an Anderlecht player, but his neighbors in the stands saw him diligently take notes each time the ball came to Lukaku.

Hey Aretha, Can Conor Casey Borrow a Wee Bit of Your R.E.S.P.E.C.T?

The Offside Rules 12 October @ 12:48 PM EST
Event though Conor Casey only one goal behind Jeff "The Jet" Cunningham and scored a brace at Honduras he's still gets no love. It's kind of a shame but since, according the vaunted Reagan-era pop artist & relationship expert Patricia Benatar, "love is a battlefield" I guess that's not all bad. Click to continue reading...

WVH Awards Tracker: Newcomer Award

WVHooligan 08 October @ 02:41 PM EST

While the day seems to be lost on everyone's Twitter feeds being down, I figured it was a good time to get back in the award discussion once again here. Instead of waiting for putting this in the evening links and thoughts I figured I would break this discussion off into it's own post for the day.

The Story So Far...

The Scottish Football Blog 06 October @ 04:00 PM EST
The less than welcome international break gives us an early chance to take stock. We're seven games in now and what have learned?CelticAtop the pile and Tony Mowbray seems confident that they'll be up there at the end of the season. That's the positive. The negatives are he doesn't yet have the players to play the kind of game he wants, he has not got any faith in the defenders Gordon Strachan Click to continue reading...

Meanwhile

Spurs musings from JimmyG2 07 September @ 03:15 PM EST
There's no football.Time to take stock and indulge the missis, make of that whatever you like but it usually involves Morrison's these days. I was going to follow the cricket or the tennis but it seems we are being thrashed by the Australians in the first and there is not one English player in the top 100 in the second so perhaps I won't bother. Anderlecht vs. Lyon

The Offside - Olympique Lyonnais 25 August @ 01:32 AM EST

Tomorrow, Lyon will be facing off against Anderlecht again for the second leg of the final round of Champions League qualification. Lyon have pretty much assured themselves of a spot in the group stages, thanks to their demolishing Anderlecht last week in France, but it's a stretch to say that the Belgians have nothing to play for.

That Friday Feeling

LadyArse - Arsenal and the world of football from a woman's perspective @ OleOl 31 July @ 05:38 AM EST
Those of us who have been following pre-season relatively closely can't help but have noticed that a few players have 'vanished' in a 'not gone to city' kind of way. Firstly there is Almunia. Any word? But, more importantly (from a long term prospect) is the absence of Rosicky since his much heralded return at Barnet. Click to continue reading...

Versatility matters in MLS

MIKE JACOBS 13 July @ 05:46 PM EST
Steve Davis from MLSnet.com writes about how versatile standouts like Steve Ralston or Jonathan Bornstein have been key components to their team's success this season.
With rosters across Major League Soccer getting stretched like taffy at the state fair, a versatile performer can greatly enhance his value in the big picture in steadily expanding MLS. Click to continue reading...

There are a number of players who already are sitting with decent contracts in Europe, like Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey and Carlos Bocanegra. These players are also known entities in Europe.

Onyewu to Fenerbahce – Deal not done

Project 2010 25 June @ 12:27 AM EST

As reported on goal.com, Oguchi Onyewu's transfer is not yet done. (Finishing the deal while in South Africa on international duty didn't make sense and made me skeptical of initial reports.) According to his agent, the Turkish giants are interested, but Birmingham City, Monaco, and others are still in contention.

Robert Green in Almunia warning, “I am sure he will have a long hard think about it”

The Gunning Hawk 06 June @ 03:30 AM EST

Robert Green believes Manuel Almunia should have seconds thoughts on his mission to become England's goalkeeper as the task is far from easy.

Green said:

It is very hypothetical but I am sure he will have a long hard think about it. It [the England goalkeeping role] is a high-pressurised position and, if you are Spanish, it could be even more so.

Funny Feeling Friday: Fletcher

He's owned by only 3% of fantasy footie managers, but Manchester United's Darren Fletcher is this week's "funny feeling."

MLS Man to Man City? So Says the BBC.

Goodbye, Kevin Keegan

English Soccer Talk 04 September @ 06:35 PM EST
Another Premiership manager bit the dust today as Kevin Keegan joined Alan Curbishley on the unemployment line.
