Abreast Of The Situation: Male Lincoln City Fans To Wear Bras At Stevenage Match In Protest Over Intrusive Security Searches

Who Ate All the Pies at related • 1 view

Word has it that droves of male Lincoln City fans are planning to attend next weekend's trip to Stevenage while wearing bras in protest over the security searches allegedly conducted by the latter club's staff on female Grimsby supporters last month.

Reports at the time suggested that female Grimbsy fans were made to reveal their bras so that the wiring could be checked by Stevenage stewards (also female, it should be noted) before entering the Lamex Stadium when the two sides met in League Two on August 20th.

Sheringham was relived of his duties on the first day of February after just eight months in charge at the League Two sidehavingmanaged just seven wins in his previous 33 games as head coach.

It all starts, as the best laid plans of mice and men so often do, on a whim. The original choice was to head for the coast of West Sussex for a match in the Ryman League Premier Division between Bognor Regis Town and Hastings United, but as the train headed out through the West Sussex countryside an idea struck us that resulted in a sudden and unexpected change of plan.

Revisiting the Price of Football

[T]here comes a point in every football fan's life when the "sod it, I'm not going moment" occurs. For some Manchester City fans, contributing £62 to Arsenal's coffers was a step too far. For me, spending £25 to sit in a rickety away end at Brisbane Roadon a cold December afternoon watching Exeter toil against an equally uninspiring Leyton Orient side proved beyond even my levels of tolerance and fanaticism.

The 200% Pre-Season Previews: League One

With the Championship starting last night, the Football League season is already underway, but League One kicks off later this afternoon. And after a season where so many sides looked strong at the top, there don't appear to be any sides as strong as those that won promotion last season. With no real makeweights on paper either, we could well be in for one of the tightest division for a while.

[C]redit to last year's winners Wolverhampton Wanderers who have bounced back under the shrewd stewardship of Kenny Jackett and might fancy their chances of making it a complete recovery were not their fans keenly aware of the dangers of hubris. Given this, the category turned out to be fairly split with Tranmere Rovers (top of League 1 in January 2013, relegated by May the following year), Northampton Town (from play-off finalists to very nearly relegated in the space of 12 months), Steve Lomas' reign at Millwall, QPR (they should have walked the league with that squad and their loan players),.

For our penultimate award it's difficult, as ever, to overlook those managers who have steered their team to either a championship or promotion winning season. Indeed, despite his irritating histrionics and basic unpleasantness, Paolo di Canio took a previously dismal Swindon back up to League 1 at the first time of asking against a backdrop of tragic personal circumstances and, should he stick it out in Wiltshire, his side should be competitive in 2012-13.

On Saturday, Jo made the trip from her home on the Grand Union Canal towitness Graham Westley's return to the club which he did so much to build: Since moving to Milton Keynes I've found there are some towns where I've been to see North End play (Coventry and Leicester, for example) that previously I'd not really thought were particularly glamorous.

Swindon Town, Sheffield United and Financial Fair Play

Perhaps the most significant occurrence of these early weeks of the 2012-13 season has been the transfer embargo imposed upon Swindon Town after the Robins became the first to fall foul of the new League 1 directives that a club's fees and wages should not exceed 65% of its turnover. You'll recall that a transfer tribunal's insistence that a combined £340,000 be coughed up for James Collins and Troy Archibald-Henville has tipped Swindon above the limit, much to the chagrin of their manager whose name escapes me for the moment.
