Every club has players who polarise opinions. We've had and still have our share. Those players
who are loved and loathed in almost equal numbers. For years Jermaine Jenas was the ultimate
'marmite' player, though it now appears most agree he's more 'arsenic' than a harmless yet
disgusting yeast based spread.
A short while back a Spurs fan on Twitter started a survey to find the ultimate Spurs XI of all
time and this got me wondering what my choices would be.
I will start by giving you a brief insight into my Spurs watching history upon which my selections
will be based. The first game I watched was when I was about 4 (30 years ago now around 1981) and
obviously a great time to start with all the winning cup runs starting to occur.
Nearly 39 years ago, Spurs squared up to AC Milan in the semi final of the UEFA Cup. Tottenham
had largely breezed through the 1971/72 tournament, starting with a demolition of Keflavik and
taking out Nantes, Rapid Bucarest and UT Arad along the way.
Milan were likely to prove a tougher test if Spurs were to progress and contest the first ever
UEFA Cup final.
